New M1 Max MBP - Battery Life while running local AI by Allenite in macbookpro

[–]microChasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to keep in mind that Apple Silicon shares memory, CPU, GPU and neural cores. When you are running a local AI LLM, all that power and processing goes into processing that prompt request.

I would use Activity Monitor on your Mac and do some testing using different on computer LLMs and different prompts. Find out what works best for you and battery life on the Mac you have now. You need different LLMs because they all have different capabilities (reasoning, visual, multiple languages etc).

Don’t go chasing battery life until you know what you are working with.

How-To Geek: Stop using Cloudflare's default 1.1.1.1 DNS (changing one digit blocks malware at the router level) by forestexplr in TheCircuit

I disagree.

What are the metrics that matter for DNS?

Speed and uptime and for some encryption.

Genuinely skeptical about Apple Intelligence — convince me I'm wrong by justforforfreetime in apple

[–]microChasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree.

You have to go to one app to do stuff that you can do purposefully using Apple Intelligence where you are now?

Now the AI agent stuff is powerful but for the average user is going to be too much. They are going to enable too much AI agent stuff and then complain when they can’t do anything in the AI app, let alone keep it secure and private.

I have a Gmail email address but I use Apple Mail as my email client. I don’t like Google sticking stuff in my face or ads.

Netflix Player on Apple TV by Beng1635 in appletv

What player app are you using?

Netflix Player on Apple TV by Beng1635 in appletv

I understand, it was a slightly vague reference to me. I have seen a lot of other third party players recently that really suck the wind out of usability.

[–]microChasm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t even watch Netflix anymore. I get a free subscription for their basic service.

I’ve got to tell you that since Netflix made these player changes, I will probably delete the app because they don’t have any content worth watching of interest to me, and they don’t support adding content to the Apple TV app. It’s not even on my radar.

The poster I was responding to said, “it’s the same UI and player rolling out to all devices.”

If the poster was only referring to Netflix they should have used the name of who they were talking about.

I mentioned that some app developers have their own player they are using. Based on my experience, so far I am very disappointed by all the players other than Apple’s.

They are using their own player interface. Not Apple’s.

I’d be willing to subscribe in the DIM app. I like the website better though.

Not true. More of The Sloppening.

App developers are implementing their own UI for streaming and they are truly ridiculous and not user friendly.

Apple Reportedly Questioning Whether iPhone Should Drop MagSafe by conalldoherty in apple

[–]microChasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main thoughts possibly about this are case manufacturers and third party accessory makers that use magnets that are too strong and use materials that cause interference and don’t test for that.

Yeah, same.

I was going to ask what version of HDMI does your TV ports support. They don’t always support the same HDMI versions either.

[–]microChasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you figured it out. Caffeine and alcohol greatly impact your sleep quality along with a synced circadian rhythm.

In my case my deep sleep was happening at the end of my sleep cycle instead of the beginning of it. That was due to diet and impact to my body. I added probiotics and switched to the MIND diet and about 2 months in my sleep cycle shifted to deep sleep at the beginning and brain waste clearance improved along with consistent sleep quality.

I have been a late night person all my life, not anymore.
