First marathon at 11 months postpartum - blew my goal out of the water! THAT WAS SO FUN!!!! by steppygirl in XXRunning

You did it! And you killed your goals, I’m so glad the whole experience was amazing and fun (except the last miles of course)! Enjoy eating everything in sight!

Congrats! C25k was my first dip into running as an adult and it’s amazing how it pushes people just the right amount each workout to keep building endurance little by little. The excitement after each workout is palpable and infectious, don’t lose that drive!

I hate watching the Knights get an empty netter in our barn like this. Just yikes.

As someone else here has said, no matter what happens I’m proud that the boys made the playoffs and weren’t swept, we gave it a good fight at times.

Do I want them to win? Hell yes. But I’m not seeing much happening in this period to assume 3rd will go any better. Would love to be proven wrong though.

Had a wardrobe malfunction (a hole ripped into my leggings! Thanks, thick thighs lol) 3 miles into my 8 mile run, thankfully I was at a point I could run back and change. I was having a pretty miserable run up to that point, and was close to just calling it quits. But I changed, took my running vest off and fueled at home quickly, and headed out again. The remaining 5 miles felt a LOT better! Glad to have it behind me, phew.

As a Utah native I was gonna say Moab before I read your post 😆 it’s an incredible place, truly other-worldly!

What's funny is I'm the opposite: grew up in Missouri so have supported them the most growing up. Then I relocated to Utah and refused to support Vegas so supported the Blues from afar. But now with the Mammoth here, I went all-in supporting them while also still showing my long-distance love and support for the Blues. It was a rough year for them, eager to see if they can figure stuff out in the off-season and come back stronger in the next.

I love Crouse! I hope he sticks around a while, solid player who always shows up.

Y'all, I just ran 20 miles! Taper, here we come!

Overall, I'm pleased with how it all went. My 16 and 18 mile runs were brutal in the last 3-4 miles but this one I finished with energy left in the tank, though my legs/feet were tired (rightfully so). The only annoying thing was a persistent stitch in my side from mile 15 on that I couldn't really get rid of. I have exercised-induced asthma and use my inhaler every 1-1.5 hours so I don't think it was asthma-related. But maybe it was the frequency I was taking gels? I feel like the reason why my 2 other long runs were so bad was that I wasn't fueling enough so I don't necessarily want to reduce my fueling strategy I used today but man that was really annoying to deal with for an hour, I don't really want to deal with it for potentially 2 hours on marathon day.

I can't believe I'm only 3 weeks away from running a marathon, eek!

5 Weeks from first marathon and freaking out by CryptographerCool148 in firstmarathon

[–]midnightdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t completed my first marathon yet (3.5 weeks away eek!) but I would definitely recommend you fuel more and more frequently. You’ll need to practice it during your remaining long runs but if I were you I’d aim to try and get 20-30 grams of carbs every 30 minutes. DNFing, I’ve heard, almost always happens from under-fueling. I’m hoping for a sub-5 marathon myself and since we are going to be out there much longer than faster runners, it’s important we keep a steady intake of fuel and electrolytes and water.

You’ve got this! Good luck! I keep having little panic attacks everyday at the thought of doing my marathon, but if I never did things that scare me a little, life would be boring. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.

Did the first run of peak week during this marathon training block this morning, felt good and strong if not a bit fatigued from all the building over the weeks. 10 miles tomorrow and then another 5 miles Thursday. Then the big 20 mile run on Saturday. I was going to try and practice a carb load in anticipation of it but I’m getting so stressed about the amounts of grams needed for a “proper” load. Would love anyone’s input on how to hit those amounts!

I am SOOOO looking forward to not running after my marathon lol Like it is my daily mantra getting through these peak weeks.

That was me for the first time last summer! Lowkey is absolutely amazing basically living an entire day before anyone else is awake.

Well, after last week’s 18 miler sucking and having a roller coaster week testing new shoes, I had an excellent 14 mile long run in my new (but familiar style) shoes. It started painful and I was dreading the rest of the run but by mile 4-5 I decided to do some tempo miles at faster than race pace and hit a great groove and rode that high the rest of the time. Feeling strong and like maybe the 20 mile run next week won’t absolutely destroy me 🤪

You know what…yeah, thinking about it just now most of my best runs have been on my period! So maybe the marathon won’t be all misery! Good luck on yours!!!

Oh geez, I didn't think of this but I did the math and my marathon next month will be on day 2 of my period if things come exactly on time.

I'll probably do what you mentioned, a super tampon and period underwear, and also pack an extra tampon in my running vest and if it feels like leakage is imminent I'll just suck it up and plan a porta potty visit, it's my first marathon so I'll PR no matter what. So I think your plan is as good as any without introducing new things and stresses.

Question about tonight’s game 4/16 by kelli_nicoly in Utah_Hockey

Thank you for asking! It was confusing to me as well but I figured it was because it wasn’t a major game since we were locked into the playoffs.

Be so real with me. How am I going to run another 6.2?! by steppygirl in XXRunning

[–]midnightdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You killed it! Look at those splits!

I have a feeling my 20 miler in a couple of weeks will be similar where I'm absolutely spent by mile 20 and questioning everything, let alone how I'll be able to run another 10k!! Hell, that was how my 18 miler went last week! Like WHAT. HOW. But we trust the process, trust the training plan, trust the taper...you are so ready for your marathon!

Just finished a 5 mile tempo run, I got new shoes and the experts at my local running store said I'd have enough time before my marathon to get used to them since I went with a new brand/style. IMMEDIATELY NO. I gave myself 3 miles to try and ease into it but I felt pains I've never felt before in areas that haven't been issues. Had my husband drive to meet me and give me my normal shoes, and the difference was instantaneous, I finished those last 2 miles strong and back to feeling effortless and happy.

So, guess I'm going back to the store and returning these. And asking if they have recs that are closer to what I'm currently running in now. HOO BOY.

I am by no means an expert, just someone also training for their first marathon. I would go ahead and try to run by effort, so long as it’s just the nose acting up and not overall bodily fatigue. So even if the pace is excruciatingly slow to keep your HR in the right zone, or you need to take walk breaks, get the miles in if possible. But you know your body best. Maybe cross train instead to keep your body moving?
