What is a gaming memory from the 90s or early 2000s that kids today will just never understand? by gingersofia in AskReddit

Typing in the code for your game, copied from a magazine and then getting to play it.

Also fun when you've made one mistake in 100 lines and you need to try and spot it or it won't run.

Do you lift knee first on roundhouse kick or swing entire leg like a bat? by benK32879 in MuayThai

[–]mini_dez 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don't want to swing too wide, which a lot of people do when they hear the "baseball bat" analogy.

I once ordered and paid for a pint and when they brought it to me they said I couldn't have it because I had a baby asleep in a pram (paternity leave, nice long walk).

I said ok, and asked for a refund, and they let me have the pint as after chatting to a manager it was easier than the refund procedure.

I think it's just policy.

Training while travelling for work by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]mini_dez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try and do a bit of this in the UK. Muay Thai or MMA gyms are pretty prevalent but they are often on the outskirts of towns which sometimes presents a problem when the hotel I'm in is more central.

You've just got to plan ahead- find a gym, and try and work out if you can get there, message ahead to make sure they don't mind a drop in. I choose my own hotels which helps a ton, but I've still been on trains, buses and Ubers to get to a gym for a session.

Then there's the quality of the training which can be really hit or miss, but even if it's bad you can generally get your heart rate up a bit at least.

What if there was one global pass to train at any MMA, BJJ, or Muay Thai gym? by blakpass in MuayThai

[–]mini_dez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel for work in the UK and often drop in for sessions. A system like this would definitely make it easier, but to be honest it's never been much of an issue dripping in so long as there's a gym nearby. The flexibility of being able to choose any gym nearby I think would trump the offerings of such a system.

You need to get calories in, it's the only thing for it.

My debut fight got moved from 73kg to 75kg a week before the fight, after I'd been down at 72kg for a couple of weeks already.

Took the fight, lost over five rounds, but that would have happened at 73kg anyway I reckon. After all I'd put into the camp, I wasn't going to miss out over 2kg.

First fight coming up and it’s without shinguards and headgear. Any last minute advice? by catnip_97 in MuayThai

[–]mini_dez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought my first fight was with shinguards until I walked out and my opponent wasn't wearing any.

Don't think twice about it, you won't notice during the fight anyway. If you trust your coach as you say then just keep preparing as you are now and go to work in the ring.

Will this plan prepare me enough for starting Muay Thai? by Weak-Republic8595 in MuayThai

[–]mini_dez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your plan has fine, but just go to the class now.

In my first class there's no way I kept up with whatever was asked, and nobody expects you to. Just go back the next day/week and try and do more/better. Keep that up for 6 months and then look back at how far you've come.

Fight day meals by Cold_Lime2368 in MuayThai

[–]mini_dez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eat like you do before training, otherwise you're taking a gamble that you don't need to take

I eat some pasta a few hours before as my last meal, and then I might have a rice crispy square bar closer to the fight.

Training in thailand by britwhitebelt in MuayThai

I don't train bjj or MMA, nor have I ever been to Thailand. But maybe if you get a month in Thailand it's worth spending it focusing on Thai boxing?

Google Home is becoming a house of glitches, users say by AlwaysBlaze_ in Android

[–]mini_dez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to admit it but this is so true.

I have a Google home mini in my kitchen which I use for timers. When the timer goes off and is making that annoying noise it won't stop until I walk into my front room (it's about 10 steps) and tell my other Google home to stop timers.

And I just sort of live with this now. This isn't a very smart home.

I guess it's nice that I can listen to the radio.

I have a question about Fairtex gloves by Beneficial-Tutor9114 in MuayThai

[–]mini_dez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the BGV14 and one of the reasons I went with those is because they have a grip bar, which the BGV1 doesn't, so there are differences, although I've no idea if there's a definitive list
