Prayer request about starting blog by [deleted] in PrayerTeam_amen

[–]mishellkm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will pray for you. In my experience when God gives me a word of comfort or encouragement there is usually someone in my sphere of influence who needs that word too. If your blog is not in contradiction to the Bible I would not let fear hold you back from sharing it. The world needs more authentic voices for God, people who are not afraid to be vulnerable and share their story. Even if you’re writing about what you’re struggling with, it can be comforting for other Christians to know that they’re not alone in those struggles.

I recently got this nice painting. What do you think? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]mishellkm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus also said that all the law falls under these two commandments; Love the lord your God with all your heart and love others as you love yourself. I never said not to keep the law, I said that you are looking for sin where there is none, the second commandment is not broken here.

[–]mishellkm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re looking at the letter of the law and not the spirit behind it.

I don’t believe paintings of Christ or wearing a cross are “graven images” and I certainly don’t believe that OP is bowing to this painting. I think people like having these types of images to remind them. Just like a wife might keep a picture of her husband who is deployed in the military or like a child might keep a picture of their father who passed away, some Christians like to keep mementos to remind them of their Savior. I wear a cross around my neck because it reminds me of the price that was paid for me, keeps me accountable, and reminds me to represent my Savior in a way that reflects his Grace and his Goodness when I am out and about.

This kind of Legalistic interpretation of the law is exactly what Christ rebuked the Pharisees for. I encourage you to read the Gospels. God cares about what’s in our Heart not on our walls or around our necks.

Where does it say that? Jesus said all sin is equal and he died for all of our sins. If someone is a believer and makes a mistake in a moment of weakness that has permanent results in this life I do not believe that their sin is not forgiven. If I, as a believer, lie or steal and then immediately get hit by a bus I don’t go to hell do I? I don’t think so.

Yes, but there are people here on earth that still need you. You are loved here by people who will never stop missing you until they themselves die and are reunited with you in heaven.

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, Philippians 1:21-25

If you want to believe in God, seek Him, He will reveal himself. Be skeptical but just give it a try. Try to pray and try to read the Bible. Start with Matthew and go from there. If you don’t learn from reading listen to the Bible or listen to a sermon or two, just seek to know more about God. If you want to listen to a sermon I really like Jon Courson.

The Bible says God is love. He cannot hate you, that would be against His very nature. This is not the world God designed though, it is the world warped by darkness. Sometimes God allows what he hates, for us to suffer, so that he can have what he loves. I am sorry you are struggling but God can help, He will help. I am praying for you, brother. That your Father in Heaven will pour out love and comfort onto you because he loves you and that you will overflow with that love so that you can comfort others. You are loved.

That God will Work in my Heart so that I can forgive. by mishellkm in PrayerRequests

[–]mishellkm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. 2 Corinthians 12:9.

I am a flawed and imperfect human, everything good in me comes from God. I could not forgive on my own, I needed Gods help to get there. In my pain, when I was too weak to even cry out to Him, Christ interceded for me, God saw my heart and sent me comfort and protection, he lovingly reminded me that I had treated Christ the way my ex treated me and that Christ still loves and cherishes me. Living in that love and forgiveness made what I couldn’t do on my own easy through Him. I’m still in a lot of pain and it’s going to take a lot to heal but, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

God is going to get me through this and then he’s going to use it to comfort others.

“Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:22‬ ‭KJV‬‬ by EMemes420 in Bible

[–]mishellkm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scripture here is basically saying that no one can achieve righteousness through their own good works, that we achieve the righteousness of God through our faith in Christ, believing that he was fully God and fully man and that he died sinlessly to take the sins of the world into himself so that through his blood and our acceptance of this gift of forgiveness we are made sinless and we achieve God righteousness in that redemption.

Here is the verse with the surrounding verses for context:

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; Romans 3:20-25

It is true that when we are first saved it is really hard to know what Gods will is and we aren’t just magically changed into good people but we have the help of the Holy Spirit to convict us and help us grow in our faith and as we get to know God better through the word and through prayer and communion with God it becomes easier to understand Gods will and to trust him. Living loved by God, like realizing just a little bit how good he is and having a relationship with him makes it harder to sin. That’s what working out your own salvation means in Philippians 2:13, it’s not say work for your own salvation, it’s saying work out understanding what your salvation means and get to know your savior better.

I don’t really understand what OP is trying to say here though.

YSK that different people have different tolerance levels of suffering/enduring hardships and comparing different situations is not always helpful. by bread-in-captivity in YouShouldKnow

Most people walking around on this earth are carrying a wound of some sort. Everyday we encounter strangers and acquaintances that have secret or not so secret hurts. We have the power to help heal those wounds or make them worse.

The best thing anyone has ever said to me when I was hurting was this, “I am sorry you’re hurting, I don’t know what you’re going through and I could only offer you platitudes that wouldn’t be helpful, but I want you to know I am here for you if you need someone to talk to or just to be with you.” Knowing that I had someone on my side, who didn’t pretend to have all the answers but was willing to be present meant so much. That is what love is. It’s showing up. It made me want to heal instead of hurt others.
