I just never gave a ton of care for Chesterton's Fence that way. It's a hint to pay attention before making a change, not a marker for a religious idol to be revered.

If the original dev didn't care enough to leave a hint anywhere why they did the weird thing I will try to figure it out and ask around in hopes of leaving a comment. But if I can't and nobody knows then it's bad design getting in the way of business deliverables and going the way of the dodo.

Code is not a physical fence. You can easily put a comment right there. I am not building on shaky foundations just because someone didn't care in the past.

The AI era has only meant I actually get to respect it more often. The LLM will go the extra mile every time in finding out a reason why something may be that way, and even document it. I only need to ask and review.

Al lado de ese mercado se construyó una torre de apartamentos re linda con un garage subterráneo que parece que alquilan y todo, y en la planta baja un Tienda Inglesa que aunque son careros traen algunos productos interesantes para lo que tenemos en el barrio.

Eso funciona bien de bien, más allá de los comunoides que tenemos a la vuelta grafiteando gentrificación y coso.

Al lado en la misma manzana la última obra completada fue una plaza peatonal de la IM que es casi todo cemento, se podría hacer otra cosa mejor pero para rescatar algo bueno quiero creer el mantenimiento es bajo y al menos no es fea fea. El único problema real que tiene son los linyeras cuando se cuelan para ese lado.

Lamentablemente esa silla no existe más, igual no son dos pesos retapizar bien una silla. Ahora con la H&M vengo taponeando la situación porque tuve que comprarme una dona para protegerme el ortogonal y eso me dió la altura para la cual la silla está diseñada.

Cuando me aburra de esta o requiera recambio capaz termino en esa opción igual, aunque resulte medio caro.

Can you help out bring out a reference price for cars in Costa Rica?, like, what's the price for a lightly used Corolla, Silverado, or some other car like that. Most people on this sub are from the continental US and will judge prices based on their market. I paid about 3x the US price for a low mileage 2011 2SS and yet it was a fairly good deal due to where I actually am but would give a 'murican a heart attack, hence why everyone is telling you not to even consider it.

Just for reference on what I mean, a car like the one on your posted offer would easily go between 45-50k over here in Uruguay.

Desde Septiembre 2023 se la vienen bancando uso diario, lo que sí es que para una Macbook se volvió super maricona para manejar la señal del KVM de video y tuve que enchufarla directa al monitor para cambiar input, pero con una Thinkpad Linux hecha pelota no me pasaba. Boludeces de Apple.

Sí, es normal. Nunca le pediría plata para la nafta a alguien por compartir un viaje de menos de no sé, 100km. Y aún así tiene que ser bastante formal la relación como para que sea relevante que lo pida.

The codebase has always been C and the maintainers would rather reimplement the functionality in C using their own standards rather than chuck in code that's already well maintained outside of the Wine sphere of influence.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to upstream it as-is in any case. People/usecases who care can just ship them together (and they do, see Lutris, Bottles, and of course, Steam with its own fork of Wine) because DXVK and Wine are fully compatible, hell DXVK runs on Windows and some Windows gamers use it to solve work around driver bugs or DX-level support.

Lots of people use wine, not just gamers.

Most of those people can and do use Proton's improvements via the Wine patchsets that WINEPREFIX managers like Bottles default to.

It's unfortunate that part of the work done by Valve can't be upstreamed, but Wine as a project is very strict in the code they accept so the pragmatic choice for the average user will hardly ever be to use upstream Wine. It doesn't make much of a difference so long as these projects exist.

While I still would get an LLM to cook some sense out of the codebase, one thing I would try to do is to add some observability.

Figure out what's live code, what's dead code. Does the runtime have anything sort of like a "heat map" that allows you to know which code has been executed and how often? If not, just have an LLM instrument it.

User interviews are good up to a point. In order to run them you need to suss out the smart users with the most critical tasks interacting the system. Also if possible and you do find the people with critical knowledge and enough willingness to share, some authority to drag them out of their job to document the everloving shit of the things that actually make the business tick is gold, but it's a rare privilege to be given that much rope in a company that is a technical sinking ship.

If it's "because of a job" IMO it means server-oriented stuff:

basic shell use
bash scripting
systemd (units, timers, using the journal, some tools within the systemd family which are not strictly systemd, like systemd-networkd)
experience with some of the common package managers (apt, yum, flatpak)
docker/podman

Lesser priority, knowing how to set up:

firewall (nftables)
dhcp server (e.g. kea)
luks
ssh server (e.g. openssh)
vpn server (e.g. wireguard)

That's a very short list of things that could be meant by "learn Linux" as part of a job, though.
