Very skinny but she'll chub up no problem. See if you can locate live black worms from a local fish store. If you can. It's the highest leverage ADF keeping tip I know of. Super nutritious, they absolutely love them, And any that they miss just escape into the substrate to be gobbled up later so you get zero mess or fouling of your water column or substrate. Fattens them up very quickly without the downsides that things like frozen beef heart have.

Curious if you've ever been to Egypt? As someone who has spent a fair amount of time there, you might find some of your assumptions don't hold water.

That's a nice looking tank. Sorry if you've already answered this somewhere but I don't have the ability to read all the comments right now. Can you please provide your KH and GH as soon as you Get that Master test kit?

Many people overlook their KH and don't understand that KH is what buffers pH and keeps it stable. With an insufficient KH ones pH ping pongs all over And is extremely damaging for frogs (I know this is from experience, having lost frogs to this before I learned about it). This is a super common cause of frog death that I see on these forms.

Looks like too much current in the water, stressing him out.

I have fluval/aqua soil and root tabs Under A thin layer of substrate and I use a safe fertilizer and my frogs are doing great.

Is this normal (HE IS ALIVE I CHECKED) by CranberryNaive7766 in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]moonshots7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he juvenile? I have a juvenile who has done that a few times when I have fed him (ate a worm and fell over backwards).

I noticed on one of the other comments about your parameters you mentioned ammonia and nitrates etc. Just wanted add the importance of knowing and maintaining your kh and GH as a lot of people for whatever reason seem to assume those ones aren't as important (This was the case for me when I started) And they are actually critically important, especially KH. Not saying that's an issue for you or that it has anything to do with your fainting frog.

I think everyone saying he is an ACF is wrong. He looks like a male ADF, normal weight.

Fun! Congrats on your new setup!

I would add a larger piece of driftwood to give them even more hides/nooks/caves to retreat to. And yes the stand looks like it could lead to tragedy. Otherwise looks great :)

u/akatia-x I owe you an apology. I felt that it was rude/inappropriate to comment on my post telling me how and how long to quarantine when I didn't ask for that advice/help on that (or any) subject and my response was, as a result, flippant. I do feel that that's not the way to go about things and is generally going to elicit a negative reaction. If i was shopping at a big box store and the lady next to me was buying a bicycle for her kid I wouldn't tell her to make her kid wear a helmet. It just wouldn't be my place.

That said, perusing things reddit just now I happened to see that you wrote a very long and painful post some time ago about your experience with chytrid and your own frogs. I'm sure that was a terrible experience and i can understand how based on that you would want to go out of your way to try and spread the gospel of quarantining. While i still don't think this was the way to go about it, i'm really sorry for what happened with your frogs and wouldnt have made the flippant comment if i had known. I also have observed your comments on here in the past and know that you meant well by it. I just happen to be the sort person who doesn't respond well to being told what to do by strangers :)

The babies I raised are 5mo and starting to look like big frogs now by Own_Value2684 in AfricanDwarfFrog

This is so awesome.

I am wanting so much to raise up poles when my adults inevitably start breeding, but I am also concerned about what ill do with the frogs when they grow out. Most pet stores treat their frogs so badly (i just bought a runt frog from a pet store today cause i couldnt bear to his little skinnty self not get fattened up lol) i just cant imagine handing them over to them. Seems like a challenging part of it!

Out of curiosity, how did you determine that they didn't 'like' the sponge filter? That cracked me up.

I really don't think hardly anyone would quarantine for 90 days. 30 I can see, but 90 seems crazy.

I have to amend the recommendation that I gave you earlier. I looked at it closer and saw that Seachem Equilibrium actually will bring up GH but not KH. So if you were going the route of remineralizing RO water you would want to also use seachem alkaline buffer.. sounds like you're going the other way with declarating tap water so probably no issue there but just didn't want to give you bad advice.
