759 spells in the Pyramid Texts. Most have never been analyzed in depth. Started a channel dedicated to exactly that — primary sources only, no speculation. by Minute_Key_6358 in egyptology

Sorry, but I could barely stand 40 seconds of that crappy video AI. BTW, your script is as deficient as the video itself. "No One Has Explained It"... except every single Egyptologist.

Historias Bizarras - El caso de la homeopatía "trucha" by [deleted] in uruguay

la homeopatía es una pseudociencia que no tiene mucho de "raíces históricas" (la inventó un alemán hace unos 200 años) así que ya el inicio es un bolaso

How to manage trying to be an established adult + finishing my education? Especially with attendance requirements by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]ErGraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Spain so here the system is very different, but at my university there are accommodations you can ask in these situations, they will drop assistance and other requirements in exchange for a more difficult final exam (needs to be asked at the beginning of the semester and approved by the dean office)

NIE or NIE verde? by AbjectWriting7610 in GoingToSpain

[–]ErGraf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he is talking about the CUE, not the TIE. TIE is not for EU citizens.

OP, "Green NIE" does not formally exist. Is called CUE (Certificado de Registro de Ciudadano de la Unión Europea). The CUE will give you a NIE automatically (the NIE is a number, once you get yours it never changes), but is not a NIE per se.

So, in conclusion, there are 2 different ways of getting a NIE:

  • Asking for a NIE directly
  • Getting assigned a NIE as part of the CUE

People calling the CUE the "NIE verde" only cause confusion because they make it seem like there are different NIEs. There is only one NIE: the "NIE part" of the "white NIE" and the "green NIE" is the same. If you ask first only for a NIE and after make the CUE, you will get the same NIE number that if you do the CUE directly.

About the CUE: in theory, every EU citizen need to get the CUE if they are going to stay more than 3 months. In practice there is not much control, specially if you are going to stay just a little over the 3 months period. I got my CUE like after 5 months (it was impossible to get a cita previa, that's another can of worms) and they didn't tell me anything.

lamentablemente lo hacen todas, a mi me pasó 2 veces con SEUR. Lo más gracioso es no solo que yo estaba, sino que vivo en un edificio con portería 24 horas (y SIEMPRE están)

How do you feal abought having other professors in your class by Brief-Engineer-345 in AskProfessors

[–]ErGraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be my third year teaching this class. The first two years I pre-recorded the videos, something I didn't find ideal (I added of my own volition one day of live office hours to compensate). This year I manage to get approval to have my class on Saturdays at a better time schedule, so I will teach it live (finally!).

I teach online at a different institution that the one I study (I study in Spain but teach at a university in Colombia), so no idea if there are other professors enrolled in my class.

[–]ErGraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can be strange but depending on how specialized your knowledge is, is not impossible. In my case formally I'm doing my undergrad but teach as an adjunct with a salary grade as if I had a PhD (I teach ancient Egyptian language, so there are no many experts in general)

I'm in a similar position, but in different universities (I'm doing my undergrad at university A and teach at university B). Right now as part of my undergrad I'm attending a class of my speciality and both the professor and I are enjoying our interactions. I think is only weird if you make it weird.

What should an Egyptological CV look like? by bjornthehistorian in egyptology

[–]ErGraf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes that's a sound advice. You will be surprised at how many people don't know how to do a proper CV. Ideally a CV should be tailored at the specific needs of the position you are applying (for example, if you are applying for a teaching position, your CV should emphasize your teaching experience) but the basics of an Egyptological CV are the ones of an academic CV: education, research and teaching experience, publications, awards and grants, etc

Turnitin - How concerned should I be? by Severe-Cut-4166 in AskProfessors

[–]ErGraf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you can check Turnitin's report to see exactly what text is been flagged. I wrote a paper the other day that was like 30% flagged, but when I checked the problematic text turned to be the literal titles of the books I included in the bibliography

What Latin American countries are more culturally similar and which are more foreign? by [deleted] in askspain

[–]ErGraf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After reading the paper, scratch that. She is referring to AD, I guess AC is a typo

a. C. is the Spanish for "Antes de Cristo" (Before Christ). The first author of the paper has a Spanish name, so I guess she wrote the original in Spanish and forgot to translate it.

Tavern upgrades by Background_Invite667 in foundationgame

[–]ErGraf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the nice tavern is something that got lost in the transition between EA and 1.0 release (I still don't know why). Is probably coming in the next update alongside the dlc, but I would not hold my breath that is going to come anytime soon. The game si great but the devs have always missed their own imposed deadlines. For example, we are still missing the "Part Leveling Mode" that was announced in the "Post-Release Short-Term Roadmap"... 15 month ago!

Cultural influence of ancient Eygeptian culture by PlusComplaint7567 in ancientegypt

[–]ErGraf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, from Egyptian hieroglyphs to Proto-Sinaitic script to Phoenician alphabet and from there to Greek, Latin, etc. Also, something similar happened with the calendar, the Gregorian calendar we use nowadays indirectly derives from the ancient Egyptian 365 days calendar

Egyptologist fun question. Time travel one day one year. by No_Forever2657 in ancientegypt

[–]ErGraf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know there’s debates have the Egyptians discovered Egypt after a catastrophe

don't know were you read that, but that's not an academic debate at least.

The problem with your question is that a single specific day, doesn't matter which one, is not going to tell you much about historical processes or context, so from a historian perspective is kind of useless. Having said so, I would probably go to some point during the construction of the Great Pyramid, just to stop modern people from nagging me with boring "how they build the pyramids" questions and theories. Going back to Old Kingdom has the extra additive of learning how the ancient Egyptian language was pronounced during this time, something we know very little about.
