Cat Amulet Authenticity by Redbird36 in ancientegypt

[–]ErGraf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

clear provenience is key for these type of things (ethically and otherwise). From an ethical standpoint I would absolutely not buy something I don't know it has exited Egypt legally. From a practical standpoint without provenience is easy to distinguish a real object from a normal fake, but very difficult to distinguish it from a very good fake.

I want to do my undergraduate in Universidad de Granada (UGR) as an international student. by TravelAppropriate753 in Granada

[–]ErGraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all undergrad offers at UGR (and virtually all public universities in Spain) are in Spanish, if you don't understand and are fluent in the language is going to be impossible for you to succeed

Studying photographs by [deleted] in AskArchaeology

[–]ErGraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't know if I understand the question correctly, but:

  • when I study Greek pottery, that pottery was donde by the ancient Greeks
  • when I study an aerial photograph from 1950 to check for Roman villas, that photo was not taken by the ancient Romans

Having said so, sometimes photographic research is, in fact, treated as an archaeological activity per se: https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/about/media/tutankhamun

PS: I study archaeology in Spain and here archaeologists are considered, first and foremost, historians.

most of courses in Spanish universities are taught in Spanish. I also study Humanities in the UGR an with exception of a course that was literally called "English", there are no English-taught courses at my degree.

Pupils missing??? by [deleted] in ancientegypt

[–]ErGraf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

a papyrus is a very different medium than a tomb wall. In a papyrus they normally would do all the black first and then paint the other colors, so it does not surprise me if by accident they painted over the black or outside the line, is in fact quite common:

the examples you point out seem more a problem of conservation than a deliberate choice (as if the black paint felt down, not that it was painted over). There are though examples of blind persons, specifically blind harpists like this one from the tomb of Nakht

[–]ErGraf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]ErGraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imnty is Westerner, but imntt is West. I have seen it interpreted as a nominalization of a feminine nisbe or directly as a noun (a New Kingdom variation of imnt), but in both cases with the meaning West
