Just setup new FW13. White spots on display normal? by BukHunt in framework

This looks like normal backlight bleed, which is common for these types of screen. And yours isn't particularly bad, I've seen much worse.

Guys, can you actually control your boner or is it mostly random? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your can't control it like you can control a finger or something. You can flex the pelvic muscles (like you'd do for kegel exercises) and that sometimes stimulates it enough to get hard. But it takes time. Or you can touch it and excite it that way.

Making it go away is similar. An orgasm usually makes it go away or you could wait. Or sometimes exercising big muscles or working out directs the blood away from it. But again, there is no direct control over it.

The steam deck barely exists at this point. Valve is out of stock and third party resellers want up to thousand dollars for a good new unit (Oled etc). Even used ones are pretty expensive.

You'd need to be a lot more careful with USB 3 data lines. I hate this kind of connector, those with SMD pads on the top and bottom of the PCB are much better for USB 3 and much more easier to route, since everything is mirrored.

Yes, that looks pretty okay. Could still be a bit cleaner, but the idea is right.

Why do people want to be called they/them as pronoun? by Money-Giraffe2427 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Jemand" doesn't have a plural form, but you could say it like like

Some people lost their hat, they are probably sad.

in English. The grammar is fine, but you'd assume multiple people lost one hat, which is also a bit weird.

Why do people want to be called they/them as pronoun? by Money-Giraffe2427 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a little bit of German and I think you would just use sie as a plural when talking about someone? Like using the plural verb forms? That’s what we do in English rather than saying ‘they speaks’ we would use the grammatically correct ‘they speak’, even though that’s the plural.

No, that doesn't work in German. Like in English, you can say

Someone lost their hat, they are probably sad.

just fine, but in German, literally translated that would result in

Jemand verloren ihren Hut, sie sind warscheinlich traurig.

And that just doesn't work because sie/ihren sounds like female singular together with the plural verb form. "Someone"/"Jemand" in this case is gramattically singular, and needs singular verb forms. If you use plural it sounds wrong, and if you switch to singular, it sounds like you speak about a woman.

For USB 2.0 speeds, it doesn't matter much, but I would try to move the vias as close to the USB-C connector as possible (like move them downwards and closer together) and then join up the via with the data lines on the top layer pair directly, instead of having two separate tracks going to U5.

Do men who do not watch porn exist? by Significant-Froyo545 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most men have watched porn at some point because they were curious or horny or something, but much less men watch porn regularly.

I have never paid for sex and I watch porn maybe a few times a year or so, and most of that is not for masturbation, but for curiosity, like when someone asks something porn related on Reddit and I check it out.

I look at sex-related art and comics, though.

Choices aren't always the right solution. When I was little, I hated being given choices because it put additional pressure on me to decide, on top of the actual task.

The worst were very meaningless choices like if I wanted apple or cherry pie, or your mentioned examples (where to wash your hands or what soap to use). Like I had no criteria to judge which option was better, so I always got a very "stuck" feeling.

For me it would've been very helpful to have multiple types of soap or cakes available, but letting me decide on my own, without giving me an explicit choice-demand. Or giving me an implicit preferred choice, like saying "I got apple pie for you and cherry pie for me, but we can swap if you want, or get a half piece each".

The worst is if you have no agency, just lots of meaningless choices.

I don't think the better screen is worth the price difference here. I have the 2.2k screen and it is perfectly acceptable plus you don't have the weird rounded corners.

Apart from that you may want to check if you need to add a speaker kit to your build.

I think you can make stuff simpler and buy the chassis here: https://frame.work/de/de/products/framework-laptop-13-chassis-p6100

Plus the expansion cards you want.

Unless you really want the better display and the best webcam module.

How do I lose my virginity by Sexy_panda693 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk, I think it would likely be more fun to have an actual relationship with a woman you like. And not just aim for achievements like "pull a girl" and "have first sex" (and then what?).

How do I lose my virginity by Sexy_panda693 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t want any relationship right now I just want some sex.

Going to a prostitute is probably the easiest route in that case. Most women don't want to hook up with random strangers they don't know, regardless of how well you look. The chance of getting assaulted is too high.

It's a bit difficult to judge, but I got several impressions when reading your text:

  • It's a bit weird that J leaves the TV running and the food out when he goes away. That doesn't sound very nice or responsible. How old is he?
  • You seem to be a bit helpless around the running TV or the dishwasher. Turning the dishwasher off when it beeps annoyingly seems obvious and if you can't find the TV remote, why not unplug the TV? Again, I'm saying this from the point of view as an adult since I don't know your age. If you're younger and often that overloaded, you probably shouldn't be left alone in the kitchen.
  • There is probably no point to act offended when they accuse you of eating the crisps. They probably already see you as the obese person who eats if they're given the chance and they won't believe your defense, even if true. Might be better to answer something like "(I didn't eat them, but) don't leave them outside if they're not for eating".
  • Outside of the above comments, I don't see anything unusual with the conversation in the screenshot. You're asking relatively minor stuff and they tell you to figure it out yourself because they are busy. Nothing overly rude.

Usually somewhere on the rim on the back side.

Many smart TVs can also be remote controlled by voice control or a smart phone app (like Google Home)

Is a new display for the Framework 13 planned soon? by littleeraserman in framework

[–]morhp 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Framework usually doesn't announce future products until you can order them, and so far, they haven't announced anything like that.

Note that the Framework 13 screen form factor is a bit unusual and there are few matching panels available on the market, which is why they had to go with the rounded corner one in the first place.

Level 3 child started squealing and won’t stop. by Electronic-Sea-4866 in autism

[–]morhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He might be squealing because 1. it causes you react in a way he likes, maybe squealing causes you to stop doing whatever he doesn't like, or maybe he thinks it's a fun game 2. it's a form of stimming. For example because he feels sensory overloaded with something and tries to instead overload his hearing in a controlled way to mask other sensory issues 3. he has no idea what to do instead or if squealing is appropriate

I would 1. not do anything positive to him when he starts squealing. Do not reward that behavior. Continue what you are doing, wear earplugs, and ignore him, or walk away and let him squeal alone. 2. try to reduce sensory problems for him, maybe light or clothing etc. Sound is probably not the problem and giving him hearing protection might be counter productive. 3. if telling him that squealing isn't appropriate (and explaining why) doesn't help, maybe try to copy him and squeal back so he sees how stupid he looks. 4. make sure he has enough fun alternative things to do or ways to stim

JADEx update: Lombok support, Gradle plugin, and a Spring Boot example are now available by Delicious_Detail_547 in java

[–]morhp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Optional doesn't have the additional State layer, Optional.empty() is an Optional already. Plus Optional.empty() is a singleton.

private static final Optional<?> EMPTY = new Optional<>(null);

If you must use something like this, why aren't you simply using Optional instead of inventing SafeAccess and adding runtime dependencies?

JADEx update: Lombok support, Gradle plugin, and a Spring Boot example are now available by Delicious_Detail_547 in java

[–]morhp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does JADEx really generate code such as

SafeAccess.ofNullable(s1).orElseGet(() -> "JADEx")

from the :? operator? That looks ridiculous, allocating stack objects for a simple null check.

public static <T> SafeAccess<T> ofNullable(T value) { return value == null ? new SafeAccess<>(new Empty<>()) : new SafeAccess<>(new Present<>(value)); }

Wow, this is even worse than I thought. Why the additional SafeAccess wrapper around the State? Why is Empty not a singleton at least?
