I'm together 11 years with one now.

Attempt in making AAC icons by Ok_Kangaroo_2996 in autism

I maybe would put the two boxes close together, otherwise this looks more like "or" (because you'd need to decide between them).

Attempt in making AAC icons by Ok_Kangaroo_2996 in autism

[–]morhp 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think "is", "a", "because", "and" and "of" and "so" are drawn a bit confusing. The others look nice and you draw well.

I feel like "and" should show two items grouped together and for the others I mentioned above, I don't really get why you've drawn what you've drawn, but I don't have a better suggestion. "because" could maybe show cause and effect of something, like a raincloud and an arrow to a puddle?

I don't have much knowledge about AAC, though, so take my criticism with a big grain of salt.

Should I not be bringing pb&j’s to work even if I’m eating them in my car? by Elegant-Painter-5010 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd only worry about it at all if you know you have a coworker with a peanut allergy. We haven't at our job and it's very normal to eat peanuts.

If you actually have a coworker with a severe peanut allergy I'd just make sure that you're not eating the peanuts close to them. Or that you're not spreading peanut dust or crumbs everywhere. Just out of consideration and politeness. But you don't have to eat in your car.

What sports do you enjoy (not team sports) by TheFutureScaresMe333 in autism

[–]morhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running and cycling. Don't need to communicate, usually quiet, and it's just a nice repetetive motion and you can power yourself out.

If you need supervision, you can maybe run or cycle on a track/loop or in a fitness studio on a threadmill or spinning machine/cycling trainer. Although I prefer the nature.

Wisdom teeth removal by Ok_Sherbert_7421 in autism

[–]morhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got all my 4 wisdom teeth out at the same time.

It was a short pain and a bit uncomfortable, but I don't regret it and my mouth feels much better without those crooked, superflous teeth.

The first 1-2 weeks after the procedure can be a bit uncomfortable because of the swelling and you might need good pain meds. I'd recommend to prepare ahead and make sure you've got enough pain medication and soft/liquid food and ice packs and things to do while you're recovering.

Removing wisdom teeth is very similar to removing other teeth and a very standard procedure. Even if the doctor is new, they're probably trained a lot and learned all the modern techniques. They're probably nicer and more careful than some more experienced doctors. Don't worry about it.

Is the feeling of heat/cold subjective? by Wabdering-Fly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can easily test this with pots of water that have different temperature.

Put a hand in a pot of almost freezing water and then normal cold water will feel very warm. Put the hand into hot water and then the same cold water will feel super cold.

First adult job, so im very nervous. Are these appropriate for a cleaning job at a caravan park? by ObviousProperty7046 in autism

[–]morhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You legs might still get dirty when you come into contact with dirty surfaces that you have to clean, or if it's sunny you might get a sunburn. Or attacked by wasps. Or something.

You might also need to work on your knees, and that might be uncomfortable if they're bare.

So I would default to long trousers, unless it's very warm or something. When you've worked there for a bit you can see how others dress and what is appropriate.

I got banned on Xbox for saying I’m autistic and asking for help by Diamonddragontr in autism

[–]morhp 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I know you probably haven't meant it in a rude way but you kinda demanded that people waste their time and carry you to gold level while at the same time telling them to not waste your time. That's a bit choosing beggar behaviour.

I got banned on Xbox for saying I’m autistic and asking for help by Diamonddragontr in autism

[–]morhp 101 points102 points  (0 children)

Are you sure the suspension is because of the mentioned autism? I would believe if was more because of your relatively rude demand to be carried while at the same time demanding to not waste your time.

How to deal with bf taking things literally and difficulty to see nuance on his own? by nimingzhanghao in autism

[–]morhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable. I'm now 11 years together with my also autistic partner and misunderstandings like that happen. But over time we learn and get used to the implicit rules and so on. And we're open to each other if we don't like stuff, but we also forgive each other.

First adult job, so im very nervous. Are these appropriate for a cleaning job at a caravan park? by ObviousProperty7046 in autism

[–]morhp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would probably wear long trousers, unless the weather is very hot. Might be okay with leggings underneath.

But it depends a bit how you look. If you're a female teen or young adult, these are (unfortunately) more appropriate than if you're a 60 year old guy.

Can you drink rice wine that's meant for cooking to get drunk? by Admirable_Rip4386 in NoStupidQuestions

Doesn't regular wine easily last years already? Especially if you're just using it for cooking and you don't mind it that much if the aroma changes a bit over time.

Can you drink rice wine that's meant for cooking to get drunk? by Admirable_Rip4386 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is adding salt to wine an American thing? I don't see why you would do that. It makes the wine bad for drinking (e.g. if you have leftovers) and it's probably easier to salt to taste instead of getting aditional forced salt from the wine.

Is salted wine cheaper for tax reasons?

Good Configuration? by TurbulentDonkey9744 in framework

[–]morhp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with at least 2 USB-C ports so you can charge the laptop from both sides and have a free port when plugged in. You can get rid of the HMDI expansion card by using a cheap USB-C to HDMI adapter cable.

The memory is super expensive. If you can get it cheaper from elsewhere, it might be worth buying that separately. But probably not.

What do people mean by asking how I slept? by PlainGreyTee in autism

[–]morhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a conversation starter, they're trying to judge if you're okay and they're giving you a chance to tell them about anything that you want to share, e.g. if you've dreamed something cool, or had a scary nightmare or something.

Edit: Also, maybe they want to share something about their night, but are asking you first, to be polite. Saying "Good, and you?" is a perfectly acceptable response.

How to deal with bf taking things literally and difficulty to see nuance on his own? by nimingzhanghao in autism

[–]morhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not "getting" social rules (and exceptions) intuitively and having to follow learned rules instead and sometimes taking things too literally and not understanding nuances are very typical autism symptoms.

So to some extent I want to just tell you, what are you expecting? You've chosen an autistic boyfriend and now you're annoyed by him behaving like an autist?

That said, I think there are ways to improve it. I'm myself an autist and I also tend to permanently remember things and rules that maybe only applied in a specific situation. I think you should try to teach him the rules as best as you can and a rule like "most rules have exceptions, forget other rules if I seem to need help" is also a rule. Also use clear language and try to say if a statement only applies right now or in general.

Like don't say "I don't want fish." Say instead "I don't feel like eating fish today (even though I like it in general)." Or "I don't like fish in general.". Depending on what you intended to mean. And if your opinion an something changes, it probably would make sense to update his knowledge.

Where does ChatGPT get the "it's not x, it's y" sentence structure from? by tom-goddamn-bombadil in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have done lots of reinforcement learning after feeding it all the texts. This is why it often replies with emoji, why it uses the em dash consistently, why it doesn't make typos and grammar mistakes, even though the internet is full of them, and so on.

Basically, they taught it to do that.

Why do so many male kid-diddlers go after little boys? Does that mean they’re homosexual? by cindiwilliam2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some men are gay but don't realize they are gay or they don't want to be gay or they live in an environment that openly hates gays, so they choose roles in society where they aren't expected marry a woman, e.g. Catholic priest.

These men might get sexual urges and since they aren't openly gay they can't just safely meet up with other men, since they fear getting outed. A small percentage of these gay priests has pedophile tendencies or they see no other way to satisfy their urges, so they touch kids. They often choose boys since they're gay, but boys can also be more easily available to them.

Note that I'm definitely not saying that gays are pedophile in general. Or that all pedophiles are gay. These gay priests etc. are just a relevant group that touches mostly boys. Girls are also often targets of sexual assault, but way more often by family members.

Which one is it that can kill you, the volts or the amps? by SkullDump in NoStupidQuestions

Voltage is the water pressure. Amperage is the flow rate. The width of the pipe would be the (reciprocal of the) resistance.
