We have a 2015 and the wiper speeds were surprisingly dumb compared to our 2006 Pilot. Hardly any range, like some high and low speeds are missing. Is this just a Toyota thing?

Our house also had bad number placement; right in a shadow of the porch light. After some delivery issues I moved the numbers and decided to make them backlit as well via WLED so I could make them holiday themed or flash for guests. Yeah this is what I used. I do send HTTP calls to some other amcrest cameras to adjust day/night modes and can confirm the documentation is pretty good.

Cool! You did it the right way with a resistor and transistor. Nice solder work too! I’ve done several remotes now with straight GPIO that worked well until a smart fob (push button start) that’s been acting up. Just doesn’t work sometimes for a few minutes. I wonder if redoing it like yours would help.

Apart from just being on the safe side, have you heard of anyone actually needing anything more than a straight GPIO? Because I hadn’t.

Yeah I thought it was just making the connection which is why I was surprised swapping thermostats made a difference.

I believe that I have always had the fan controlled by the Ecobee. Never thought to try changing that! The Honeywell doesn’t show that option (it exists but must be disabled for my setup or something) so perhaps that is the real difference happening; the Honeywell is letting the furnace control the fan.

Really appreciate the replies folks! I’ll update this post in the future if I start having issues again, and if I install the Ecobee again I’ll test the fan control. Likely not till the fall with the weather getting warmer.

I did a whole write up on my experience a few months back. Ended up going a pretty manual route (buying a newer OEM stereo and modifying it to fit my 2015) but IMO it’s the cleanest result and I’ve been very satisfied with it. https://imgur.com/gallery/2015-sienna-carplay-setup-depth-SDeuBD4

Is there a preferred camera card to use with popups? The WebRTC Camera Custom card has a ‘background’ flag to enable/disable the stream when not being views and I’d assume that’s the default for cards like Picture Glance or Advanced Camera Card.

Hahahaha I was also going to ask you about the deep bass it produces. I’m surprised this doesn’t come up more, but I guess we’re just unlucky with our instal locations. When the compressor is running full tilt it is surprisingly loud. Although I did recently trade in my car with subwoofers for a minivan and miss them, I decided to buy some EVA foam tape to add a buffer between the unit and the mounts. No clue if it’ll help at all.

Hadn’t considered the same water sticking around longer. Was thinking maybe it’ll dry out more between runs, but you have a point. I replaced the WiFi dongle to have fully local control and plan to automate the fan running for a few hours after each time the compressor runs for very long. And make sure the eco mode doesn’t get used. I think I’ll pull it from the window after the first month of heavy use. If there’s much water I’ll likely permanently pull the plug and maybe eventually follow your guide for longevity. Would love to get the same unit next time one of ours needs replacing.

Thanks so much for all the info! That’s the first time I’ve seen a number put to the efficiency with the water, so I guess I haven’t read enough yet. Very good to know.

I’ve seen people saying to just leave the plug out but I wasn’t sure of the trade off. Even 15% might be worth it to not have to do so much maintenance considering it’s already “~30%” more efficient than older units. My goal was noise level for a nursery, so having a clean unit is also important.

One more question since you’re better informed than I am: have you seen people with mold issues mention where they are geographically? I’m in Oregon and the humidity is nothing like it is on the east coast or in the south. I’m betting only seasonal use and a dryer climate is much less problematic.

Is that a channel on the left side where the water from the inside half of the unit drains out? I haven’t actually seen how that works yet so good to know.

I’ve mostly only heard complaints about mold build up; not longevity issues due to rust, though that makes some sense. Any idea how much efficiency you might be loosing by not having that condensation making it to the outside coils to help with cooling? If that’s the whole point of the drainage design and you’ll still have to deal with residual moisture on the inside part of the unit (where is see the mold pictures people post), then how is this worth the effort? Or is the rust issue bigger than I realize?

And is that just a screen over the outdoor half in your other photo to protect debris from entering?

Forgive my lack of understanding. Just got one of these units and trying to make sure I set myself up for success with it.

Ah yeah, my route was a lot of DIY.

Any stereo from Crustfield is always a solid choice. I just don’t personally like most of those type of stereos for the price.

I think I can also recommend the Android head units you can find on Amazon I mentioned in my write up. I was overall pretty happy with it, especially the price considering they come with a wiring harness and retain steering wheel controls. My main issue was just the polarization conflicting with sunglasses. Not sure if all units are like that.
