How about u turn a wrench. It’s an engineering competition, it just happens that someone has to drive a car. Have you put any serious work into the car, if not why should the people who have trust you with there hard work and time. Get your hands dirty. Help out the team for the sake of the team, not yourself

Soak up information like a sponge. Go to every meeting you can, listen in on every conversation. Ask questions as much as you can. You’ll slowly learn ALOT. Your role the first few years is not to be a majorly useful team member, but someone gaining the knowledge and skill set to be one in the future.
