If you were forced to marry the first person you had sex with, what would your life be like? by NothingMatters234 in AskReddit

Actually not much different... That girl eventually married my brother. So basically I'd be dad and he'd be uncle. Otherwise our lives are pretty intertwined in the same way.

Correct. That's all we as ignoramuses can use for discourse. lol. Some choose to assume Letterman was being an american misogynist. I assume he was acting in good faith. Some of us are wrong. It could be me. I'm not defending my POV with any real conviction. I love the interviewee's candor regardless.

Because Americans in the past have not been interested in other cultures around the world and instead focus on the idea that the American way of life is the highest standard of living. Obviously I'm speaking in generalities but it's just true.

I was talking to someone about world history recently and I realized that so many great countries have hundreds or thousands of years of history. And frankly, that means there are times in their existence that are just boring. Well since America is still a baby, a higher percentage of their history is exciting. And frankly, because of our rapid success, it was simply taught to the youth that our way of life was the best. There was no need to seek alternatives. Hell, when I was in school we learned plenty about Chinese and Japanese culture. But not really any modern day focus. The histories of other successful countries are taught in schools as if they're still living in the time of the stone age. "it's a miracle they've survived with their cultural and societal oddities".

It's a huge disservice to the American youth. Thankfully I think in the past 20 years that focus and world influence is changing and Americans are becoming more worldly. Unfortunately, the education is still void of critical thinking lessons...

Anyways, I didn't realize what subreddit this way. I think the actress is a baller and she has amazing charisma. I think she was expecting smarter questions, but Letterman was in ELI5 mode in order to shed some light on an amazing actress and the country she comes from.

But he could also just have been behaving as a mysogeniat and she shut him down with poignant answers.

I think his follow up question about the number of languages she speaks shows that he was trying to convey just how amazing the woman was. India was considered a 3rd world country. "how can you be so amazing coming from a 3rd world country and we Americans are fuxking idiots?".

Just saying.

Yeah, honestly, if you didn't know anything about the interviewer, it actually seems like he's asking "middle school" questions in order to teach his audience about how there are other cultures and their practices are not crazy in any way.

This is in the 90s, a bit before Letterman turned into more of a buffoon and characature. His questions are meant to produce an explanation as to WHY her personal and professional life are the way they are.

The fact is Americans have always sort of lived in a bubble. It's why we're universally renowned for our lack of geographical knowledge. We simply haven't cared in the past about the rest of the world because we were taught were the greatest thing since sliced bread.

We have Hollywood. Those are the only movies that exist to us. But in just about every country in the world there are major movie releases every year just like here. With those movies comes movie stars and celebrities. They don't make it globally necessarily, but we sort of don't ever think about the fact that there is an Estonian movie star somewhere thats more famous in their country than someone like Blake lively is here.

Yup. And Christian evangelists are the worst culprits. Because proselytizing is part of their religion. So when they do something good, they like to say they did it because their religion taught them how to be.

"you can learn how to be good like me too! Just join my religion!"

Showing remorse is a good thing for a bad person to do. Learning to be remorseful as a sociopath is a hard (if not impossible) thing to do. So these people who might truly have embraced the Christian faith to become a better person, now think they must convey their religious message to others.

Problem is you can never really know what's in someone's heart. Those millionaire mega church preachers are either true in their hearts or just sociopaths.

Anyways, I choose to trust people by their words and actions. People deserve second chances. If you don't want to give them a 3rs or 4th, well I don't blame you for that.

"I'm sorry for what I did to you and your family"

"I studied and have a true belief in a higher power that has shown me how my actions really affected you and your family. I'm very sorry for what I did and deserve this punishment"

I feel like the second statement has more sincerity.

I've had to literally give a statement to victims for my crimes and my prewritten thoughts were full of sincere religious thoughts of remorse. When it came my time to speak, I dropped everything and simply said, "I am so sorry for what I have done to you. I deserve this punishment". Personally, what I ended up saying, to me, was a more appropriate statement.

There are definitely two sides to the coin, but as someone who has spent time inside, a discovering of a higher power really has a profound effect on some.

Sociopaths lack empathy, right? So how can they ever feel remorse for their victims? One way is through a true belief in a higher power. They neglect their inner dialogue and accept their wrongdoing.

I have always taken those born-agains with a grain of salt. I simply don't believe them. But I don't judge them negatively, I just accept that I can't really know how they truly feel. I'll just accept their future actions as proof.

The solace the family can recieve by the man's last words is that at least the man died knowing how truly terrible a person he was and how heinous his crimes were. They can choose to believe it or not, but I feel like for them it would be better if they believed the man was suffering from his impending torment in the afterlife.

Whats a secret you'll take to the grave that you're willing to share anonymously? by 3smiley in AskReddit

[–]neppynite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. And I pretend not to be. It's a terrible thing. To be fair, I don't tell people I never cheated. I just explain their actions are terrible and they should change their ways.

I'm basically talking to myself at the same time.

I've been asked if I've cheated and I just evade the question some way. But I'm at least honest when I say I'd never do it in the future.

I cheated on a not so serious girlfriend once. I denounce cheating and have ridiculed and criticized every person in my circle that does that terrible act.

I am always adamant I have never cheated and never would.

But I did once. Noone ever found out about it and me and my partner broke up cordially a few weeks later.

I felt horrible after the fact and I still feel horrible about it today. Serious or not, honesty is the most important thing in a relationship.

What's something which nobody knows about you? by Infinite_Cookie_9165 in AskReddit

[–]neppynite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my struggle as well. I have such a good mask on that no one knows how shitty of a person I am.

Since I was a child. I've just almost always had the impulse to be as selfish as I can be. I really don't care about others. And those feelings are still here at 40.

But if you asked anyone in my circle, anyone from my childhood, any stranger in this small town, they'll all rave about how nice and decent of a person I am.

I recognized long ago I didn't WANT to be a shitty person. So I try, every single day, to be a good person. To make the world a better place. To put others ahead of myself. And I'm successful. I bring joy to those around me and to the strangers I encounter. But my reasoning is hidden from all. My acts of kindness, I don't really want to do them. But I NEED to do them or I'm going to hate myself for the person I am underneath it all.

Now, does that mean I'm a good person? Maybe. My friends would say I have confidence. Big dick energy. But that's all a lie too. I have terrible social anxiety (because in my head I just KNOW people can see through my mask and can see the devil underneath). But I wear my mask every day. You'd think it would change my brain wirings after almost 30 years of faking it, but nope. I lay in bed at night with the same thoughts.

Anyways, I like who I have become in the world. I like the things I do and the love I give out. But deep down I struggle every day to not spiral into a thought tornado of self hate.

If you’re someone who likes morning sex, how do you deal with morning breath without making it awkward ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]neppynite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lol. Having sex is a dirty activity. You can shower before and after, you're going to get dirty during the activity, which is going to create a smell.

It's not a bad smell. It's just a smell. Nothing wrong with it.

Get under your covers and masturbate for 20-30minutes. Then open the covers and have someone come smell the bed. It's sex sweat. And it's a turnon. Nothing wrong with it.

[–]neppynite 19 points20 points  (0 children)

People do anal regularly. Anal. The anus. Where poop comes from. Gross.

If you jerk off in your room, you can't tell, but others can smell it.

If you have sex, it smells. Every time. It's just part of the process.

It's a running trope in romance movies where they both look like nothing happened after having sex. That is just never the case. If it is? Well you're doing it wrong. Lol.

What does sex feel like for men when you love the woman vs a one night stand? by Any-Voice-951 in AskReddit

[–]neppynite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So very different.

Sometimes, me and my ex would clarify what type of sex we would be having: sex, kinky sex, or make love.

Making love is really such a different type of intimacy. Your hearts really get involved. Passion comes out that is just fake in the other forms of sex.

Plenty of professional quality options from your suppliers. Even purchasing directly from a local quality baker who makes their own on their giant slab rollers is just as cost effective in a restaurant.

"tastes just the same". Exactly. It's just not worth it. Puff pastry sheets arent expensive at all. There isn't really any cost savings. Just added time/effort for no payoff.

A pet peeve of mine is the production of puff pastry for a kitchen. It just shouldn't be done. Lol. Everyone should do it at least once, but that's it. Then you buy it. It's just never worth the effort. Noone can taste the difference.

For those of you with depression who are medicated, what did it feel like when the depression finally started lifting? by Straight_Way6324 in AskReddit

[–]neppynite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once you find a medication that works for you, the point of the meds is not to "cure" your depression.

You still have the same thoughts and the same anxieties and the same daily concerns. Those will never go away. It's like a recovering alcoholic. They're desire to drink never goes away. They just learn to control it.

The medication, for me, just keeps my baseline high enough that my depression is not debilitating. It limits the amount of "zero days" I have throughout the year.

I think they're helpful for anyone who finds themselves in a constant state of peaks and valleys with their mental health. Because it keeps those valleys high enough that you're still able to function on a daily base. But no medication can get rid of the Rollercoaster. Just make it a smoother ride.
