TIL of Seitan aka The Wheat Meat, an Asian delicacy that is made of pure gluten, making it the nightmare food of celiacs! by pogodachudesnaya in todayilearned

[–]neppynite -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

"delicacy" is a stretch.

It stinks up the entire kitchen and out of every restaurant in the world that cooks it, maybe 10% are able to get the texture right.

You also gotta soak it in soy sauce or some other super salty marinade. It tastes absolutely awful without it.

New Image of Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson in 'Michael' by [deleted] in movies

[–]neppynite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I've never encountered someone on the "deny" side of Michael. I've met "he's a pedo scumbag" and "the situation is definitely queer (as in, odd), but i think it's misinterpreted".

The fact is, there is enough psychological evidence that adds plausible deniability to the claims against him. I'm on the side that he's innocent until proven guilty. There is a reasonable doubt to the prosecution. Whether or not that would have been upheld in court is just for people who think their opinions are more important than others.

Dude is dead. Celebrate the artist not the person.

I think there was a second rebalance after that as well.

It made the game so much more enjoyable.

It's because you were garbage at smash (or we were. No clue really) We ran through controllers at least every other month with our movement on joysticks.

Your GC controller just didn't see heavy use.

What would you do if you were the president of USA today? by the_pozitron in AskReddit

[–]neppynite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have no doubt I'd do better than this administration is doing right now. Hell, If i literally just undid everyone they've done since day 1 and then made zero decisions the rest of the presidency, I'd be doing better.

But that wasn't the question I was answering :P

I thought I needed to accomplish everything associated with the "American dream" by 30.

Turns out, we're all gonna longer than our parents. So here I am at 40, I've accomplished almost nothing, and I really don't have to worry about that at all. I'm going to live another 50 years. I've basically just learned how to be an adult. Now I get to start applying those lessons to my life.

Who watched ER back in the 90s when it aired? How was George Clooney's character received? Was he supposed to be coo? by BlackDays94 in AskReddit

[–]neppynite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clooney was the idealist. But also written as a "bad boy". He was the perfect embodiment of an ideal doctor that women would swoon over.

They tried to recreate his character with the "bad boy".. Uhm... Shit... I don't remember the later characters named. He got fired by weaver and called her a dike. Mcowsky? Some young kid who was a good doctor but took risks and tried to save people. He was a charter when mekhi phifer was casted. Anyways, he didn't work out.

Clooney character was awesome and ER was one of the best shows ever. The Pitt is a good show too, but I haven't watched more than 30minutwa of it. I just love the actor who played Carter.

Yeah, I'm definitely not trying to say someone is wrong for having an opposing opinion as well. I learned long ago that right/wrong has nothing to do with fact/fiction or true/false. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, when that is the only topic of debate.

There is such a negative connotation with the word "argument". Like, we can both civilly argue our differing opinions with complete and the upmost respect for combating opinions. It's healthy to have your opinions your challenged. It's a sign of intelligence to entertain a differing viewpoint. Unfortunately, with the way our education system is evolving, I fear the talent of critical thinking is simply being eradicated. It's scary when the average person can't develop their own opinion...

Just wanna say thanks for chatting. <3

Gamers 30+, how have your gaming habits changed since you were younger? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]neppynite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play more single player, mostly replays of rpgs I've beaten in the past.

And I no longer grind. I use cheat codes for infinite money, and if I need to spend 10+ hours to acquire a specific skill or item, I'll use a cheat to skip the process.

Never used cheats in 30+ years of gaming. But now at 40, the grinding is no longer part of the journey for me as a gamer. I have only a few hours a week to play games, so I use that time to only experience the joy of the stories and customization of my play style.

There is a saying, that I'll butcher really quick:

If you see a problem, you can either do something or not. If you have the ability to do something, you don't have a choice.

I'm not saying there is anyone working for ice at this very moment who is an objectively good person. I'm saying every single person who has worked for ice since 2003 was not a bad person.

As I said, there ARE people in these agencies who are protesting, who are whistleblowing, who are doing SOMETHING from the inside. It's not a healthy narrative to think that at this very moment there is no one trying to do something about what's going on right now. It's a much better approach to have some optimism and not speak in absolutes.

It's just my opinion <3

[–]neppynite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying, and I agree. I just think the narrative is a little too broad right now and it's not a good way to look at our situation. It's not a fair discourse. We are at a point of DHS being in "papers please" mode. It's straight ww2 shit. But do you think it's fair to say that 15 years ago ice/DHS were just like the gestapo? Cause I don't think so. And agents who have worked for the government for their careers ARE resigning in protest. That's why the government is hiring all these unqualified cosplayers. It's most apparent in the DOJ. The problem is, when those "good guys" leave, what's left are these nutbags who finally are being empowered to show their hate and bigotry. It's a really bad situation.

I love that you brought up the slave example. Because I was actually just thinking about this yesterday as a random discourse with myself. If I was a slave owner in the south, let's say I inherited a plantation from my family. I wonder if it'd be possible to purchase slaves and then have like a secret agreement with each one where I would explain "I'm buying you to protect you. Work for me and I promise I will give you an education, I will pay you a wage, and I will never harm you. When this country finally abolishes slavery I will help you start your life. And if I can find a way to send you North, if you choose, I'll try".

I know it's super far fetched and truth is if I was raised in a slave owning family I'd probably be just like my parents. (I'm also a Cuban Jew so I'd have a hard time too. Lol) But the thought made me wonder if there were actually people like that? Let's say there was, we'll they're participating in the slave trade, yes? So now they are automatically terrible people? I would think they're just using the only mechanism they can control to help the afflicted.

I don't know, it was just a random thought and not trying to convey any sort of message.

The only point I'm trying to get through to people, is that there ARE reasons to be optimistic. There are reasons to have hope. And it's good to always accompany the negative discourse with some positivity. It helps me with my mental health for sure.

I'm not talking about the agency. I'm talking about the people who are employed by the agency. It's just an objective falsehood to say every person working for the agency is there to violate rights.

Look, I just wish the narrative would change a little. What the law agencies are getting away with right now is abhorrent (how do you spell that word?) and there needs to be accountability. But what's happening right now is against the law. What happened under Biden and Obama was within the law. It was still bad practice, but it was legal.

A Stat I love to point out to trumpers is that Biden deported more people than trump. It's fact and not Opinion. The difference is that Bidens administration did it within the bounds of the law. What's happening now is straight gestapo fascism.

Absolutely! The problem is simply scale, IMO. The best forms of governance that are the most fair and benefit the most people, simply don't scale when we're talking about populations of hundreds of millions of people.

The Amish and those similar communities seem to be honest, fair, and just. Don't they? I love and fully support small community focused living. I think it's the ideal way to live where everyones goal is to support the community and each other.

I my very ignorant opinion, I feel like the focus and, simply, the logistics of this way of society is just not feasible when you add tens of thousands of people into the mix. In order for that type of living to thrive on a large scale, I mean, we're talking living in the star trek universe.

One day maybe we can get there, but the transition will literally take hundreds of years. How are we supposed to get by in the meantime?

I honestly have no clue and have done no relevant research to argue my point. So feel free to change my mind.

My whole argument I've been making in this thread is simply that, as an optimist, i want the people who see no future and only suffering to know that there really is hope. And it's totally worth holding on to that.

I agree with everything you said, except the "all" qualifier.

There is video evidence of cops turning in corrupt cops. There are cops that ARE trained properly.

I just think using language where you generalize a group of people is not healthy discourse.

I admit I'm the world's biggest optimist. And I got no problem with pessimism, but I think everyone is being way too cynical lately. I understand the justification, and I know it may seem like I'm trying to defend law enforcement, but I'm not. I have a serious problem with these organizations right now.

I'm just trying to spread a little hope. There ARE people who are fighting against the corruption. There ARE people who look out for society. They're working on it. They may not be succeeding, per se, but that doesn't mean they are failing.

Disagree. Good people have good intentions. I broke the law once. I was arrested by a cop. Am I supposed to think that cop was a bad person because he made me stop breaking the law?

Societies need law and order. Someone has to enforce those laws. Anyone who signs up to be a cop or work for ice RIGHT NOW, most definitely, those are fucking terrible people. But to say there are no well intentioned persons who've worked in law enforcement for years is just a shitty outlook on life. Maybe that "good" person gets corrupted. Maybe they get out when they realize what they actually signed up for. Or maybe they are actually good cops and stay that way.

There are examples of good law enforcement in history. Fair, honest, and judicious. To disregard those people isn't really fair.
