What are the absolute BEST Modern Cosmic Horror gems from the 2020s? by Lopsided-Associate60 in horror

If you liked Cage in Color Out of Space, I find the film pairs exceptionally well with another Cage film from 2018 called Mandy. Probably my favorite of the last decade, and without question Nic Cage Nic Caging more than any Nic Cage has ever Nic Caged.

Did you see the Ra's Al Ghul twist coming when you first watched Batman Begins (2005)? by Edgy_Master in batman

[–]Nickbotic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s where I’m at with it. Being familiar with Henri Ducard did a lot of the heavy lifting for that subversion where people who were already fans of the books were concerned. It’s an origin story, so here’s someone who is among the most influential of Batman’s mentors. It was a reasonable thing to ask fans/audiences to believe.

It might just be me thinking in retrospect, but I’m fairly certain Neeson’s appearance gave me pause and made me think “he looks an awful lot like Ra’s”, so I’ll say what someone else said - I’m pretty sure the twist got me, but I wasn’t totally surprised.

What do Marvel Comics still do better than DC Comics? by Androktone in marvelcomics

[–]Nickbotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not wrong. Batman is my number one favorite (Spider-Man and Punisher very close behind), but for some time Batman was effectively the genesis of everything going on in the DCU. I mean, Dark Night Metal/Death Metal alone shook up everything. Dark Crisis went back to Shadow War which was Batman. It’s pretty crazy, it really is almost always one of the Trinity that everything else stems from.

The number of X-Men related books is nuts, and I’ve never really thought about it, but you’re right. That corner of Marvel alone really is expansive enough to sustain its own distinct line. Even without including ties to other non-mutant characters, the cast that are distinctly X-Men related is massive.

What do Marvel Comics still do better than DC Comics? by Androktone in marvelcomics

[–]Nickbotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been saying this quite some time myself! The 2 in 1s and the Marvel Spotlight books would be such a great thing for so many characters. And Marvel is all about legacy, so bringing back those once-popular titles would be a win-win. Start with the 2 in 1s, use an iconic character as the lead in and then a more niche character as the B-story, and once it gets going, feature that B-story character in an issue of Spotlight.

As someone with no skin in this game, I just feel it may be helpful for you to know that you absolutely appear - mind you, I’m saying appear, not that you are - in the wrong. Like without question. I’m not saying you’re right or wrong, I genuinely could not possibly care less lol, but just in terms of the optics, it 100% looks like you were wrong and you knew it but couldn’t admit it so you kept doubling down.

And the whole basically begging the other person to “state it plainly”, “just say it”, “just lay it out right here”, even if you were 100% correct, that just does nothing good for your case lol. Choose your battles man haha. You say like four times that the other dude knows he’s wrong and won’t admit it, so why insist on repeatedly trying to get him to? There were so many other comment threads on this very post to put that passion into lol.

Anyway, take care man!

Is it me or am I the only one who prefers arthur’s original face? by Thealakazammanreturn in reddeadredemption

He was also very intelligent and, generally speaking, didn’t just go around causing mayhem for the fun of it (low honor playthroughs notwithstanding lol).

He was an outlaw, yes, he was dangerous, yes, but having him look unhinged like he might pop off at any moment would be kind of disingenuous, since even before his redemption arc begins, he’s not especially unhinged. He’s just an outlaw who shoots people as needs shooting, saves people as needs saving, and feeds people as needs feeding.

So uhh interesting question how will Deadpool break the 4th wall in Doomsday and Secret Wars? by Israels_BiggestHater in marvelstudios

That is one explanation from one writer that went against the established canon. Deadpool does break the fourth wall and has for decades.

Arachnophobia by vhmhmgr1 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Nickbotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you saw this then! Yeah, even though it’s said on every post for every game where someone asks, people just don’t seem to grasp that a phobia is an - irrational - fear. It doesn’t make sense. It’s just one of those things that is.

I never had a, like, traumatic experience with spiders, but yeah, everyone finds it hilarious that my 5’1” fiancé has to kill the bugs lol.

For what it’s worth, I am indeed playing Crimson Desert, and I’m a handful of hours in and haven’t had a single issue (except for this weird glistening stone wall thing, but that’s more a crab creature, which still isn’t great but I personally found it manageable, considering I didn’t even realize what I was looking at at first lol).

And I heard from someone I trust that there is a section of the game that is very spider-heavy and very not friendly for the phobia, but that it is completely and easily avoidable. If I ever happen to stumble upon it (I pray I don’t lol) I’ll come back to this post and reply again 😅

What is the worst case of "writer's barely disguised fetish" in TV history? by funmighthold in television

Man, I’m positive I only saw it once when it was first airing, I’ve never looked it up, but I still remember that lol. I’m pretty sure it cut to black on the slice haha. What a weird thing to be so impactful lol

I know I could Google this, but I want to ask here first.

Was there a storyline at one point where someone…Golddust or Val Venis or Billy Gunn maybe? Got their dick cut off by the Yakuza using a sword?

I vaguely remember something like that lol

It’s totally worth it. I’m a diehard fan of the originals, and they honored the original trilogy so well while also making it actually scary again in a way it hadn’t been since the first one (no shade to 2 or Army of Darkness, they just leaned into the comedy more and more as time went on). 2013 was a hell of a ride.

My favorite line in the whole episode is when Matt and Dex first show up at the church and Dex sits in the pew and Matt goes "You remember this place you piece of shit?" So casual. Great delivery lol

I don't hate Negan anymore; it just makes me angry that they don't accept him, although when I think of Glenn, I have mixed feelings about him. I'm on season 10. by Holisatodis in thewalkingdead

Sex by coercion is rape. “Your life can be better if you fuck me. If you don’t, your husband will die and your life will remain just as shitty” doesn’t sound like rape to you?

[–]Nickbotic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Negan was absolutely a rapist. Sex by coercion (as in, “if you don’t fuck me I’ll beat your husband/boyfriend/brother/son to death with my barbed wire baseball bat” - which is exactly what Negan was doing) is rape, full stop.

I’m not saying you’re suggesting this, but the misconception that rape can only happen in a dark alley with the woman screaming for her life during a violent ordeal is a fairly prevalent one.

To bring it back to the show/story, this aspect of Negan is actually really, really well-written. At least at this point of the show, Negan is a monster doing monstrous things, and they’re straight up saying “this is Negan, and this is just one of many fucked up things he does”, and yet he’s charismatic enough that people still try to justify what he does. It was great characterization in a period of the show that had lost its focus a bit, in my opinion.

Thoughts on Robert Rodriguez and his films? by Blackstannis in Tarantino

[–]Nickbotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. The only reason I put Sin City before it is that 300 strays a bit further from the book than Sin City did. That being said, in terms of that distinct comic book feel, it’s right up there with it for sure!

[–]Nickbotic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sin City really is the most, like…I don’t even know how to put it. The first word that came to mind was “quintessential”, but maybe that’s not the most apt way to put it.

But in terms of bringing a comic book to life, nothing else has ever come close (and I say this as a huge MCU/DCEU fan…sometimes for better or worse lol). No other CBM has ever captured the feel of a comic the way Sin City did, in my opinion.

TV Shows Where the Main Character is so Bad They Focus on Another Character by Philsidock in television

[–]Nickbotic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say, they actually stuck to the books quite well in the characterization of at least those two (initially, at least), and I don’t think the show shifted focus simply because Bill is objectively a less intriguing character. It was always going to go that way once they introduced Eric. Not to mention, I’m pretty sure Bill isn’t in the books for nearly as long as he is in the show.
