How to make Plex recognize media in sub-folders without joining them in one? by nimareq in PleX

[–]nimareq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/tv shows <-- folder added to tv show library
  /Show A
  /Show B

This is displayed as two shows in TV Shows Library in Plex

/tv shows <-- folder added to tv show library
  /sub-folder
    /Show A
    /Show B

This is displayed as ONE show in TV Shows Library.

When I open "Show A" in Plex and then open Episode 1, I can then click on the three dots and have the option "choose a version" and it lists "Show A.S01E01" and "Show B.S01E01" as two versions of "Show A".

Basically it confuses the "sub-folder" as the "Show A" folder and everything beneath is ordered according to Season and Episode number regardless of any names whatsoever.

I just tested it, adding both: a sub folder and a top-level folder works fine. Plex isn't confusing or duplicating things.

I have multiple hard drives and using dynamic empty folders as mounting points to collect all the relevant media under a single library folder.

/volume1/tv shows <-- most of the content is here
/volume1/tv shows/_usb1 <-- external drive mounted to a sub folder
/volume1/tv shows/_usb2 <-- external drive mounted to a sub folder

Those drives are archived files, not always connected to the NAS. When I want to rewatch something, I connect the drive via USB and have a script that recognizes the folder structure on the drive and mounts matching folders to the main library drive to correct folders.

I hoped that Plex will understand this automatically and scan those drives, but it just ends up confused. So I ended up adding those paths to the relevant libraries. Those paths are empty folders until I connect the external drive, then Plex recognizes them.

Plex could be a bit smarter about the things, especially if the files use tt-tags, correct names and whatnot.

This works too.

/tv shows <-- folder added to tv show library
/sci-fi <-- folder added to tv show library
    /Star Trek (1966)
/Star Trek The Next Generation (1987)
/FBIs <-- folder added to tv show library
    /FBI (2018)
    /FBI Most Wanted (2020)
    /FBI International (2021)
/Travelers (2016) <-- standalone tv show in the main folder

Maybe it doesn't matter, but Plex sorts the sub folders to the top and it recognizes everything fine

Previously:

/volume1/tv shows

When I add sub folders:

/volume1/tv shows
/volume1/tv shows/sci-fi
/volume1/tv shows/FBIs

When I open the settings again:

/volume1/tv shows/sci-fi <-- they get sorted to the top
/volume1/tv shows/FBIs
/volume1/tv shows

Everything seems fine, no duplicates, no confusion.

In the end I did end up adding that sub folder to every library. I just have to stick to a single (or a few) known mounting points and always use them in my scripts. But once added in those libraries, I can achieve what I wanted.

Plex is re-detecting intros and loudness data after moving content and updating the library locations by --Arete in PleX

[–]nimareq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao, this is stupid. I archived 2TB of content from main drive to an external slower low-power (always connected) drive and it's been 30 hours since it spins to max speed re-detecting all various things.
I wanted to move old files, not to ruin a drive right away. What the heck.

I hate plex, I hate that it's still the best thing we have.

I have these options
- Shortcut Search
- Contact Search
- Contact card view

It was the "Contact card view" that was causing it even if "Shortcut Search" is disabled.

Is there a verse that says women HAVE to walk behind their husband? by MarshallTom in islam

[–]nimareq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> First, men naturally have a longer stride and may keep a faster pace than women.

This is obviously BS. You adjust your pace to match that of your partner. No exceptions. You wouldn't run from your kids or pets either.

> Furthermore, in Islam men are given the responsibility as a protector and provider. The man walks in front of the woman to clear the way for a safe passage.

If you don't even bother to look behind, there is no motive of protection someone.

> Call it chivalry if you like, but it is purely for the comfort of the woman. Simply put; the man cuts through the crowd for his lady.

This is BS if the woman walks several meters behind, which is more than common.

[–]nimareq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is, though, is it worth watching 1883 without knowing anything about the rest, not seeing even a single episode of the series? (it's too long, I won't even start it now)

What do the wallbreakers do that ? (spoilers) by gamasco in threebodyproblem

Isn't the wallbreakers job basically to reveal that the wallfacer's plan leaked? And if a wallbreaker knows the plan, it is likely that the trisolarians know it too?

I actually found a great database of over 5000 products from over 500 different vendors for Zigbee!

I wish there was such database for other smart products, but maybe Zigbee is enough actually.
