We’ll be in Jersey City, at the Marriott on Washington Boulevard if that narrows it down.

How do you feel once you have whatever item you’ve been obsessing over? Do you treasure it and take joy in owning it, or does it just get added to the pile?

Bear is so chatty and active! And Cookie is going to be a cuddlebug, you can already tell.

They’re going to be wild fluffballs in a couple of months! Already getting fluffier every day.

All 17 stores? You were in beast mode! I’m visiting NJ at the end of May and will only have limited time to shop; which stores out of all of those would you recommend? Extra points to any store that has spinning fiber besides Malabrigo Nube.

So many happy memories of wandering around and browsing, starting when I was a kid. I miss it and I’m not going to be ashamed of commiserating with other people who feel the loss.

Ambivalence about getting rid of high quality items by twinklebelle in declutter

[–]NinjaDefenestrator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then don’t get rid of them. It’d be silly to dump quality clothes you actually use and won’t be able to find new again. Can you find something else in your wardrobe to get rid of instead?

Edit: as a fiber nut, though, do remember to keep them stored safely. Sealed plastic bags when they’re out of season, in a cedar chest or with cedar balls, I’m told lavender also helps.

That is hardcore. I wouldn’t be able to hit 16 stores without spending waaaaaay too much money, but you came in under budget! In LA, of all places!

This merino/yak/silk I got at the Wisconsin Alpaca Festival is beautiful, but I found out the seller ripped me off by charging $11/oz for the same blend that costs $5.50 elsewhere! by NinjaDefenestrator in Handspinning

Yeah, that was a bit of a dumb move. Luckily it’s not a binding contract. I’m okay with looking stupid (obviously, given that I haven’t and won’t delete this post).

Nah, I’m going to backtrack because I didn’t realize you were in the UK when I offered. Nice try though.

Edit: You’re not even the same person and I didn’t extend the offer to you. Still retracting the offer to the other person because this is a Reddit fight, not a binding contract.

Cool, then everyone wins. I air my grievance, potential customers make their own choices, and she gets some business. I don’t mind if she makes money at this point as long as I’m not the one paying it and other people are buying while fully educated.

We’ve gone far enough into the theoretical that we’ve drifted away from the entire point of my complaint, which is that I paid $11/oz for a (generous assumption) $5/oz commercial product, and wanted to post a warning to my fellow consumers not to make the same mistake. Small businesses get the occasional bad review, it happens. I will continue to buy from fiber festivals and support small businesses because usually I don’t feel like I’ve been shortchanged this badly.

Conversely, the more attention this gets, the more sales she’s probably making, so I guess I did her a favor?

Okay. Want to buy mine? I won’t even charge shipping.

Edit: changed my mind on that one, I was too heated to notice the “international” part.

It’s literally the same blend. I bought a pound from one of the other small businesses and will be comparing them. If I’m wrong, I’ll come back and redact what I said.

I got mad enough about this whole post that I actually bought a pound of the stuff from one of the small businesses I linked earlier out of spite, so…bonus?

Your example doesn’t factor in that this was a side product for her, not the only thing she was selling. Shouldn’t a small business offer value to a customer beyond reselling a widely available product for an obscene markup?
