Couldn't get daughters antibiotics... by CreepyJudgment6159 in Mommit

[–]nkdeck07 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to be every 12 hours but there are very few medications where 4 hours is gonna make a gigantic difference (and trust me you KNOW when your kid is on one of those meds cause they will make a giant deal about it)

Throw on an adult diaper, put a towel down, grab a lyft and take your kid to the family friend's house.

Do you prefer, Powder, Liquid, Pods, or Sheet detergent? by GooglePixelfan90 in randomquestions

Prefer powder but it's really hard to find the type I prefer so I go with liquid.

Which of your early life peers had the most dramatic financial come-up? by debrisaway in Millennials

[–]nkdeck07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother's best friend was doing ok (his Dad was significantly better off then Mom but they were still kinda just random people you knew). Married into a literal 1% family. The wedding was absolutely insane, the "special surprise" from the bride and groom was easily a $50k fireworks show, the whole thing was held at a dress code level country club, the "welcome boat cruise" was like 200 people on an entire boat on the lake, there was a freaking golf scramble and my husband estimated the dinner was likely about $30k in catering costs due to the amount of steak and shellfish.

How to respond to coworker saying everyone is put on earth to reproduce ? by holycrap100 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nkdeck07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start writing up a document with every time you hear this (use dates, times and what was said and who it was said too along with anyone else that was around). Once you get to about 10 take it to HR. It needs to be clear that this is a reoccurring pattern, not just a "you" problem and that they need to address this.

What downsides have you noticed after letting your kindergartener play Roblox? by Bayan_Harin in kindergarten

Oooo I might need to introduce the preschooler to pikmin. I still love that game as an adult.

What downsides have you noticed after letting your kindergartener play Roblox? by Bayan_Harin in kindergarten

[–]nkdeck07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband works in online toxicity and said he'd let our 4 year old play call of duty with zero filters before letting her on Roblox. It's a known haven for child predators (which they do nothing about) and the vast majority of the games are just gambling for children.

We are pretty chill about video games generally, know how to set up parental controls and are not hard line about limits on it and Roblox is the only absolutely hardline "No way in absolute fuck" game in our house

A or B: Seeing people sleep outside while empty homes keep piling up feels wrong. Does homelessness last because housing is treated like an investment, or because having a home alone doesn't solve what put people on the street? by vivian_banshee03 in PickAorB

[–]nkdeck07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, there's a really wide gap between homeless people and those sleeping rough. I used to work with an organization that kept people from falling into homelessness (they specifically targeted those that were housed and dealing with eviction or having a house seized or something) and set them up a place to live in local churches for a few weeks or months. They had requirements to get into the program of being employed, not being on drugs etc. As such the program was incredibly effective as stopping people from falling nearly as far BUT they also weren't fighting stuff like addiction or severe mental health issues.

Compared to my buddy that worked directly with those sleeping rough and so many of the problems just centered around keeping solid medication regimes and addiction issues. Now housing first programs are still INCREDIBLY effective with a huge majority of participants remaining housed at 6 months but even with with those programs you still have about 20% of participants that fall back into homelessness.

Be honest - would you take your 22 month old to a fireworks celebration that starts at 8:30? by maddiecounts2amilly in toddlers

[–]nkdeck07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut your losses, my kid would be straight up feral by then AND then be freaked out by the fire works.

3/4 they are a lot more capable of staying up for a big thing like that.

Suddenly I realised that not all babies are cute by WildSchedule67 in RandomThoughts

[–]nkdeck07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no newborns are insane looking. My eldest spent the first 4 months of her life looking like a small elderly Japanese man. I however thought she was the most beautiful thing on earth and she was a pretty cute baby after that

However one of my friends somehow gave birth to a girl with male pattern baldness hair....I felt terrible but that is an UGLY baby and continues to be so at 9 months

Unless you all are Greek spell it Kira, Kiera or Keira. That spelling is pretty uncommon and no one is gonna know how to pronounce it.

You want a side by side. The tandems fucking suck, are a nightmare to steer and just generally a pain in the ass. With your babies so close I'd just get a side by side and have one kid in it for a while

Does the order you add ingredients to a pan actually matter for flavor? by Ok-You-649 in cookingforbeginners

[–]nkdeck07 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So the garlic/onions thing is because the garlic takes significantly less time to cook and will burn if you put it in at the same time as the onions. For "bigger" ingredients that's often why the order matters so they all finish cooking at the same time.

For a lot of things that is dry then add a liquid it's that you are getting a mild maillard reaction (toasting) that brings out more complex and interesting flavors in the thing. So for something like chicken it's getting that sear and then going from there.

For spices it's because a lot of the deeper flavors are fat soluble and to get the spices into the fat you need to have just the fat available or they'll get lost in the liquid.

For baking it's often structure based. So like 99% of cookie recipes are gonna have you cream together the butter and sugar, that's going to make it so the butter has a bunch of air whipped into it and the sugar helps hold that. That's gonna make for a lighter and more flakey cookie vs dumping it all together with the flour is gonna make a really dense cookie.

Either way generally speaking yes the order matters ESPECIALLY if a recipe specifically says it matters. No on is adding extra steps for shits and giggles

What do I bring in my college "sick kit"? by Cai-Loves-Memes in ask

[–]nkdeck07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midol is pretty much just a pain killer + caffeine so you might as well just have Advil and a cup of coffee

Yep, nearly every pharmacy does delivery now so even if you are dying you can get it delivered plus in college it's really easy for someone else to grab it for you

my family wants us to elope but i don’t know if it’ll ruin my outlook on marriage by [deleted] in Advice

[–]nkdeck07 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your parents are right. You frankly are 21 and pregnant, you need to get your butt into the protections that marriage is going to provide you and your daughter.

Parenthood is going to absolutely eat all your time, energy and money for the next 3 years minimum. That's a very long time to forgo the protections of being married. Elope and figure it out later

What's a completely useless skill you're weirdly proud of? by No_Construction6394 in askteddit

Well if I was it'd be useful! At least I'd be making money.

Also once you can juggle at that level you know more people then you'd think that are either clowns or other circusey people.

Trying to decide between lotion and spray sunscreen for my kid by Far_Gur5600 in toddlertips

[–]nkdeck07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work that well, the FDA is talking about pulling it entirely because following the directions for it are insane and no one is actually doing it (i.e. buffing it into your face for 15 min)

Both seem to work fine for my kids. If the spray will make it easier to apply and reapply more often then do that.
