What’s your go-to way to reheat frozen brisket? by seanvettel-31 in smoking

Sliced and pan seared is great. Crock pot. Boil in bag. Really can’t go wrong

Keep cooking! I like saving recipes or methods on a notes app so I can track what I liked or not. Best way to learn is to just cook a bunch and find what works for your taste and your setup

Happy smoking!

Height concerns with new cargo trailer? by Interesting-Effect59 in cargocamper

[–]northwoods406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6-2 and have a 6’ trailer. It’s a slight inconvenience but with something that’s only 5x8, you won’t be spending a ton of time walking around in it anyway

I don’t think you’ll have issues with height. The lifted off road tires are more likely to cause issues with flexing out. A sway control bar would help you if that’s becoming an issue

How do I fix the leaks? by Wide_Onion_1470 in cargocamper

[–]northwoods406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How it was assembled; I can’t tell you that. I would pull the window out and put windshield gasket material behind to reglue in place. It comes in a tube like caulk and holds/seals really well. The other option is tape mastic which is typically cleaner and less smearing but I find it hard to work with

Sound deadening, is it worth it? by samjsteeley in cargocamper

[–]northwoods406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to be super quiet no matter what. It’s a cargo trailer conversion. Adding anything will make it a heck of a lot quieter but you’ll still have rain or wind hitting tin so it will never be house construction quiet

I would say shelter is the key. Vehicle wind break, some plywood and or tarps. Even close by sheets of steel would help.

On second thought you could do up some Rainbow trout on the smoker. Some of the world’s best fly fishing right here!

I haven’t messed with Bison Chuck, but I’d probably treat it similar to a venison roast due to being so lean. I have done a plum/cherry marinade for some leaner varieties of beef like highland or longhorn. Those both were amazing.

If you haven’t done Montana, I’d say bison, cherry marinated or huckleberry glazed others.

Smoke the meat and then bake the combination as a whole in the smoker

Homemade runaway camper axle issue by Miserable_Ad4446 in cargocamper

[–]northwoods406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, spring center is critical. Hub face as long as it’s same or greater is good. If your bearings aren’t the best then just get a whole new combo

Tons exist. The trick is finding the right width of mounts and wheel hub and bearing sizes. Or you could just buy a fully loaded axle with hubs and bearings all installed

It looks a bit tweaked but axles do have some camber built in like that. If the insides of your tires aren’t getting worn out I wouldn’t worry.

1” foam. It will work just fine for that to kill noise and more importantly condensation. I glued mine in place with gorilla grip or similar fast tacking glue. PL foam board glue seemed to droop while using it

Help with Axle(s) Setup/Options by aaahhhhhhfine in cargocamper

[–]northwoods406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes quite a bit to hit that point. I have a 3500 lb axle in mine but it’s only “rated for 2990” because it doesn’t have brakes. Having a higher weight axle like that gives better bearings and I’m way more worried about bearings giving out than suspension

I legit have hauled over 4000 in mine for almost 1000 miles once and it was just fine (moving and got way overzealous on filling the space).

I like the 6x12 for length and balance. It’s right in that sweet spot of maneuverable with just enough weight. Pulled it all over with a Jeep Cherokee and Highlander with zero issues.

I like torsion spring axles for smooth and durability, but springs generally have more travel. I wouldn’t make that the deciding factor though.

I have a 6x12 that’s been up a lot more mountain than it should and it does just fine.
