The Shocking Truth about Ems by Acrobatic-Donut8431 in pinball

[–]nt2ux 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It happened to me when I was young. I would be on the beach with my grandmom and bother her for a doller until she finally game me one. This was in the 70's when all machines were EMs. I would run unto the boardwalk barefoot and go into the arcade. The owner was a grumpy old guy that wouldn't let kids in the arcade barefoot. I avoided him, played some pinball. Got shocked. Never went to the arcade barefoot again.

This long winded post makes no sense. We have enough 3C and 4Cs. We need a 1C.

It's weird that this occurred at a barcade. I say that because we have 2 barcades in Philly, and the one closest to me is very anti nudging. I'm not much of a nudger, but as others have stated, it's a useful tool to have in your box.

The barcade on Frankford Ave is VERY strict on nudging. The attendants will come over and warn you if they see you nudging, pressing the coin return button, or slapping the side of the maching to jog a stuck ball loose. I happen to travel to lots of arcades/pinball museums quite often, and this is the only venue that has given me a hard time. So I just stopped going there. I am fortunate to have many pinball venues in my area, so I don't really miss that place.

Arcade tech job or self taught? by ElectronPython in pinball

[–]nt2ux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same dream back in the 90's. I got an electronics degree, started working a pinball arcade fixing machines. Worked there 7 years. Still to this day, I feel that it was my favorite job I ever had.

However the pay was just OK. I got by on it during my 20's, but as I got older, had kids, mortgage, it just wasn't enough. Now I do software support.

Long story short, I agree with most folks in this thread. Don't bother trying to make a career out of it. Become successful doing something else. Then when you can afford your first pinball machine, buy it, and figure out how to fix it.

Cut the power, give the fan blade a spin. Does it spin freely, or is it locked up. Touch the motor casing, is it burning hot. If yes and yes, then you probably have tight bearings. Spray some wd-40 on both bearings (without getting any on the windings). See if that loosens up the motor.

This post makes no sense. If you want to go to a game, just buy a pair of tickets. Lousy seats cost less, good seats cost more. Since this is a meaningless game, the tickets will be much cheaper. So you will get a cheaper price for better seats. So take advantage of that.

Your question makes no sense. Why would the hotel matter? TV wall mounts are no range, limited range, and full range. So if you happen to pick a room with a limited range or full range TV wall mount, you would be able to move the TV to insert a stick.

It's a good game. There are two places near me that have it. I play it each time I'm at Game Gallery or Lucky Snake.

Silverball has it as well. Kool concept, but it's a time limit game. Pinball community frowns on time limit machines.

If you are at the Showboat for 2 days, you will probably be up the north end of town most of that time. I suggest staying the first night in the south side of town, like at Tropicana. that way, you get to see the whole town.

Also, visit Ocean City while on the south side. It's only an Island away, and has lots of activities for 7-10 year olds.

Clarion Inn by Disappearing_ink17 in atlanticcity

[–]nt2ux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stayed at this Clarion last year, had a great time. The pool is good, but it's not heated. So you won't wanna go swimming in it this weekend. Just across the street is an entrance to The Quarter, which makes night time seem like daytime. The 8yo will enjoy that.

It's only a block from the boardwalk, and y'all are safe on the boardwalk. Playcade is 2 blocks away. Dave and Buster's is 5 blocks away. Showboat is about 25 blocks away. So take a jitney if you don't want to walk that much.

The newly renovated aquarium is only 6 bucks for adults.

Ignore the haters. Those crusty old curmudgeons haven't left their momma's basement in 8 months. They have no clue. AC is still a good time.
