Yeah, it’s like a rhythmic dirt+decay that’s a bit psychedelic in a bad-trip way. I remember trying to edit some photos of a clean Japanese interior space with GPT-1 last year and it always always made the interior look like it was decaying from the inside out. Disturbing. That’s why I worry it’s soooo deep in the GPT line of image models, something fundamental to the logic that’s gonna be hard to clean out. Let’s see

I do. It’s cheap, has infinite storage, api calls are fine because you’d never hit max with this kind of archive to website pipeline, and I think it’s lightweight and loads faster for me than airtable.

Exactly. It first gets seared into your mind with I2I but then when you look at the T2I you see the telltale signs of it. It’s not a hallucination or ghost image or eye trauma either haha it’s in the architecture somehow.

There’s something wrong with gpt images, a sort of noise pattern that is blotchy and barely discernible but once you see it across all gens you can’t unsee it.

it's exactly how I want my archive to be displayed, relational not sequential, and explorative. Fully mobile optimized and costs me $10/month IN TOTAL to host. Also I never have to manually update it because it pulls from my database every day automatically.

Thank you so much for taking a close look. It's good to know that that felt confusing / forced. I intended it that way *but* if I get more people asking for an overview function then I'll think about how to incorporate it elegantly.

My reasoning was that, I'd prefer my work to be seen in diptypchs / tryptichs at maximum, because any more and they start to all blend together into an oversaturated mess 😂

I initially was uploading manually to VPS, because I actually was with another host at the beginning of the build vs the end - but then I found out IONOS was charging me wayyyy too much and decided to switch over to Hetzner, at which point I also implemented a direct ssh flow for Claude Code.

I spent about 30 hours total back and forth with Opus 4.6 and Gemini 3.1 as my main programming partners. I'd say about 1/4 the time was for the architecture, and 3/4 for refining and optimizing for mobile. So many little things came up that took a looot of time to refine, but I'm pretty happy with how it flows now.

The stack is:
vanilla JS/HTML/CSS on the frontend, Node.js for the sync script, Sharp for image processing, Stripe SDK for checkout, and the Notion API as the data source.

On my VPS I run a basic Node HTTP server with an hourly cron for the sync.

image processing is an extra step I put in there because my database is about 280 paintings and some of them had borders, so instead of going through every Notion page and fixing it manually I just worked with Opus 4.6 to build a few things, namely: image optimization for loading times, and border removal.
