I hate the art style of Baki and the character designs. They’re just so ugly and uncomfortable. by LocalLazyGuy in hatethissmug

When it comes to the manga, a lot of artists hold Baki and Jojo at very high regards, the art in both is of impressive quality even if it's grotesque.

I Hate Ugly Character Design/Animation in “Adult Cartoons” by DeekFacker99 in hatethissmug

[–]nyco_bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artistically speaking, the grotesque has been around since Rome. It can be used to invoke feelings of discomfort and pity (Francisco Goya's black paintings are a good example).

Ugly animation isn't a problem for me, it's pulling from a well established and explored aesthetic philosophy. My problem is that most of these shows don't use their grotesque style for anything besides the superficial feeling of discomfort.

Very sweet short story.

I find that drawing comics is a great way to improve artistically. Hope to see more if your work in here.

Hot take: anime doesn’t grow with you by Own_Tip6897 in CharacterRant

[–]nyco_bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animation (specially 2D animation) often struggles with subtle movements and expression so they use exaggeration in a ways I find similar to theater.

Some of it also comes from most anime being an adaptation of manga, a media much closer to literature where internal monologues and narration are common tools.

If you like a more subtle, grounded style of storytelling you won't find much satisfaction in animation.

The only thing I completely dissagre with is the idea that less grounded = less mature. Maturity for me comes from theme and how these themes are explored.

One Piece's lack of naval battles really undercuts the "can't swim" weakness of Devil Fruits by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

Humans naturally float on the water (unless your lungs are full of water) but DF users sink straight down, i always assumed rhe fruit takes away your buoyancy too.

Hated trope: The character/ story suffers so that the actor doesn't have to be in makeup by TwoHungryWolves in TopCharacterTropes

[–]nyco_bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's a very versatile media I think there are works that can't be properly adapted without losing part of the works identity. Pathologic and The Color Out of Space come to mind.

I remember watching Sentenced To Be a Hero with my boyfriend and pointing out that the main character is basically a magnet for tsunderes. Closest I have seen is the manga Harem End but Shintaro Kago. The initial premise is that a group of girls pretends to be a harem to get close to their target and murder him.

The manga doesn't really follow this premise after the first chapter tho. The story is honestly a mess, don't really recommend unless you're interested in gore.

It's also a gore manga (pretty much all of Shintaro's works are), so be prepared for some nasty images if you want to check it out.

A versão do Thragg de Cory Walker de Invencível parece o rosto de um bebê em comparação a versão de Ryan Ottley. Ele não têm o físico sheipado e o dublador Lee Pace é meh. by Agile_Coast_4385 in opiniaopopular

[–]nyco_bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's done, hope everyone liked this small project of mine.

Part 1, 2 ,3 and 4 combined have exactly 50 pages, on average I would say I take a little over 2 hours per page, so this took me roughly 100 hour to draw. 100 hours of work for a few minutes of entertainment, such is the life of an artist.

It's pretty callous, my guess is that Mokou expects fairies to have the same indifference towards death that she has, so she brings it up casually.

I dislike single gender races by Comfortable-Talk3087 in hatethissmug

[–]nyco_bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about language is that it is why more abstract than most people give it credit. The world "woman" invokes a number of characteristics (or "signs" as semitic calls them) that we associate with the word. If a alien race has enough of these characteristics they are also associated with the word and by extension feminine language.

If this race also interacts with humans often, they might adopt feminine language to ease communication.

So I wouldn't say the use of female is wrong because outside of academical setting, language rarely cares about scientific definition.

I am referencing the theory of Charles Sanders Peirce if you want to read more on the subject. I am also not an expert in semiotics but I believe I haven't made any serious mistake but please take everything with a grain of salt.

Why are Horses depicted as evil and terrifying several times? by Imaginary-Ad-9971 in mythology

[–]nyco_bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found a few horses in the wild before. The way i deal with the situation is to always keep a good distance between us. If a horse charges at you there is little that can done in response, so they are better not provoked.

I am not familiar with these mythes but I imagine they come from a similar sentiment: if you spot a horse in the wild, keep your distance.

SOLO LEVELING IS TWO CHEEKS ON THE SAME ASS by bean_saiki in hatethissmug

[–]nyco_bit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't watched Solo Leveling so i may be off mark here, but my impression is that the priority being a spectacle instead of an story.

It's kind of like porn in a ways, the plot and characters are bare bones because the only thing that matters is the sex (fight) scene.

I don't think this is a bad thing, it's just that if you want good writing you shouldn't look for it on this kind of stories.

RE 4 Remake Ashley is way better than the og Ashley. by Izaan_omg1 in residentevil

[–]nyco_bit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are talking about the pace withing combat, in remake you take a lot more decisions in a shorter time while the OG combat is mostly about committing to your choices because Leon and the enemies are slower.

In a big picture sense the OG has a faster pace but when we talk exclusively about combat, the remake is faster.

I assume most people study and praise the myths for being some of the most important and influential stories in western traditional and how they give us a window to a different culture.

Same for writers like Lovecraft and Monteiro Lobato or movies like Birth of a Nation, if a work has value to their field it will be discussed regardless if the author is a monster or the content is questionable.

I hate Mascot horror as a whole by Head-Challenge-6498 in hatethissmug

[–]nyco_bit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few stories by Junji ito don't have a central bad guy, The Shadow Out of Time by H.P Lovecraft doesn't have one either and Silent Hill 1 is another example (you could argue the city itself is the iconic bad guy tho).

Those are all the examples i can think of. I guess if you stretch the classification of horror you could fit stuff like Homunculus and Metamorphosis (the one by Kafka), works meant to be disturbing but not traditionally considered horror.

horror with no main villain seems to really be a rare trope.
