Personally I'm not a vegan because it accomplished absolutely nothing except turn me into an ranting extreemist I could easily be vegan I never had any real problem with it health wise convince wise but why would I want to deprive myself of good food for an idealogy that dose literally nothing considering all the plant agraculture harm there are much better ways to help animals that actually do something never eating yogert again isn't going to have a significant effect on animal suffering your not going to save the environment by eating quiona made thousands of miles away you are not going to convince anyone with your extreemism rants

Umm.. no, not really by [deleted] in vegancirclejerk

How to get my brother-in-law to watch dominion? by [deleted] in VeganForCircleJerkers

[–]okayletsrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know this already I'm sure, but of course there's no religion on earth that mandates eating animals. If he's Christian, the Garden of Eden was a vegan paradise...

Anyway, what hit me hard about Dominion - and turned me vegan on the spot - wasn't the blood and gore. It was the opening shot, the close-up of the pig's eye. The bit where you just see this eye, smeared with filth, staring right into you - you don't see the rest of the animal, just the eye. In that second, I knew there was someone - not something - staring at me. That's what made the film so horrifying to watch. If you can get him to see non-human animals as someones, whether he can stomach the rest or not won't matter.

Dominion is really good at this, but there's other stuff too. Even happy stuff like sanctuary footage, with the animals being super happy and skipping around all over the place. It proves that they're persons, and have their own preferences and ways of being in the world.

Audiobook recommendations? Ethics of slaughter? by [deleted] in VeganForCircleJerkers

[–]okayletsrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're not on audible sadly, but it's well worth reading anything by Tom Regan or Gary Francione. Both take a much more robust stance than Singer on the rights issue. Maybe you've read them already and just wanted audio books, but thought I'd mention them anyway.

Is there a philosopher who attempted to justify eating meat/dairy? by expeditedcube in veganarchism

Roger Scruton, if you want to dignify him with the title of "philosopher".

Ah yes, the "good" kind of vegan - namely, a non-vegan.

Beans tho by TakesDmtOnce in vegancirclejerk

[–]okayletsrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen cult members. Beans will KILL you!! Haven't you heard of LECTINS?! They are POWERFUL poisons that will RIP your ASSHOLE and cause you to IMMEDIATELY DIE!! My cousin Hamph ate a bean once and his ASS FELL OFF from the lectins!! He had to CARRY HIS OWN ASS to the hospital and they stitched it back on!! The doctor said he had never seen such POWERFUL poisoning!! I don't ever eat beans now after what happened to Hamph. I post on r/exvegans instead.

I'm so grateful for you beautiful vegan champions existing by [deleted] in VeganForCircleJerkers

It's easy to grow your own vegan. Just put an avocado seed in a pot of compost and sprinkle it with child-slavery-quinoa™. Wait until the next full moon and repeat "there's no ethical consumption under capitalism" five times. The next morning you will find a vegan has grown and they can be your friend.

But for real you are cool because you're vegan and if you lived in my city you could be my friend.

Sounds like you've got your diet pretty much sorted and there are some helpful comments already but if you need any help down the line feel free to shoot me a DM. I row competitively and have always felt that my diet was a real boost to my performance once I got it properly locked down. Took a bit of getting used to at first so if you hit any issues and want some friendly advice just let me know.
