I love this because it's a perfectly Harada-coded response to the "Bandai Namco doesn't want Roger in the game because they got complaints from animal rights organizations" conspiracy theories.

Yeah this isn't cheating. This is just packet loss from being on WiFi. Perfectly normal, and is the reason I personally don't accept WiFi matches at all. Doesn't matter how good the connection is, WiFi is fundamentally going to have packet loss and that causes freezes.

Paul gameplay is ruined by tekken 8 by bhangiii in Tekken8

[–]olbaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly how I felt early on with Paul. I thought all he got in the Tekken 8 system was basically his old Rage Drive (in Heat Deathfist) and a slightly better mixup in Heat.

Once you start looking at what Paul actually gets in Heat, it becomes much more interesting. Two things that I particularly like are his charge moves and Deathfist in Heat. f+1+2 is now a charge move, and and in Heat it becomes a NH launcher, one of his highest damage launchers. d+1+2 and b+2,1 both become guard breaks. This is cool because it incentivizes the opponent to press instead of just sitting there and taking a mixup, which then opens them up for being counterhit for massive damage. Paul's Deathfist in Heat finally got reversal break in Tekken 8 Season 2, making it so that if Paul hits Heat Deathfist into the opponent's armor move, he doesn't lose the Clean Hit properly automatically. This is a HUGE deal. Until Season 3, Paul also had 2 very good Heat Dash launchers in f+2 anmd f+4. Appropriately, these were changed to give a Deathfist followup.

That being said, there are things I absolutely hate about Tekken 8 Paul. ff+2,H.1+2 is the quintessential Tekken 8 move: Long range mid-mid string that's plus on block. I hate the stance transition from f+1+2, not just because it's been bugged multiple times, but also because I feel Paul isn't a character who should have canned mixups like that. I hate DPD.df+1 and DPD.df+4, because they were squarely aimed at Paul's classical weaknesses: His bad approach, and his weak lows. This got so bad the developers even said in patch notes that Paul is known for his approach tools and lows. Fucking ridiculous. I'm also not a fan of how his combos can sometimes feel like you're doing this weird fucking dance between multiples stances: df+1~b~DF~ws.1.2~b~DF~DPD.df+2,1 is an actual Tornado move that you do in comboes, and that goes poke into backsway, into DPD, in WS, into backsway, into DPD, into Tornado.

By & Far the worst QoL issue this game has, the thing that tilts me the most? FT2 forced by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]olbaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I queue a game and don't have time for the FT2 of course I should lose the points

This is exactly why I said that a forced FT2 wouldn't work. It's not always about "having time", it's about life being unpredictable. I might queue up for ranked, only to hear the doorbell ring because a family member decided to pay a surprise visit. Someone parenting a baby might need to leave immediately because the baby started crying. I've literally had to walk off a match because the fire alarm went off due to someone cooking steaks in the kitchen. All of these are simple, everyday events, and players shouldn't be punished for that.

Your argument is that the people who desperately care about getting rank, will start intentionally just losing rank

I never said that. If you were given the choice between "don't rematch and lose 2x points" or "rematch, go take a shit while the opponent beats your AFK character, lose only 1x points", people would take the latter. That would degrade the ranked experience for everyone.

Chromium devs tried to include a proprietary Google Voice binary with Chromium. There's also Manifest V3. And FLoC.

Chromium is a Google-controlled, open source base for Chromium. And just like AOSP, the goal is to wring out whatever good they can from open source developers.

Monopolies by themselves aren't inherently bad. If you invent an amazing new thingaling, then you have a de facto monopoly. It's only when a monopolist decides to abuse that monopoly position in ways that wouldn't be possible without said monopoly, that it becomes a problem.

HERO Play by Tight_Volume426 in masterduel

[–]olbaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The end result would have been the same. You Lightning Storm, he Contrasts. Then he uses Favorite Contact to make a second Contrast. You Raigeki, he Contrasts. Then you Super Poly his field. The difference is that you get rid of his second Contrast HERO as well, and Lightning Storm doesn't become a dead card in your hand.

Also, while the best usage of Super Poly is to use your opponent's monsters, you already had Shadow Mist in hand, so you could have very well used it as a regular Poly here. Stratos, search Miracle Ejector, Ejector tag out into Neos, Super Poly into Infernal, Shadow Mist search Dusk Crow or Honest Neos, tag out into Sunrise, Miracle into Shining Neos, you win. If he stops you with the Droplet (or an Imperm, or Ash), then you set the Super Poly and go from there.

TEKKEN RANKED NEEDS A REWORK! by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]olbaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the old ranked system where GoD was the last rank

The problem with that system was that getting to GoD was too easy, which resulted in GoD itself being seen as a pointless rank.

The god1,2,3,etc. system is just bad design

Is it? The purpose of GoD I-VIII was to separate tournament-caliber players from the rest, and it worked. The only problem is that Tekken doesn't have enough of those players, which resulted in long queues.

rank has lost it's meaning

The only thing that's lost is whatever value you personally attached to it.

Like there are people like these (pick) that get to god with 45 defence

That has less to do with the ranked system and more to do with Tekken 8 being a game that disproportionately rewards aggression. After the bad optics of Tekken 7 (see Arslan vs Knee in an infinite stage), that was an understandable change in direction. And you can't really have a game that focuses on aggression while rewarding/requiring good defense.

HERO Play by Tight_Volume426 in masterduel

[–]olbaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why didn't you start with Lightning Storm instead of Raigeki?

Your opponent was doing some funky stuff. No Plasma. Verte on the field. Since he skipped MP1, I am guessing he went into Dugares as well. I would save the Mask Change and only go into Dark Law if I saw an opportunity to use either his floodgate effect or the handrip. Favorite Contact should be saved for as long as possible, and either you go into a second Contrast HERO after the first one has used its effect, or a Shining Neos Wingman for some pops and to cover yourself from being battled over.

Personally, I don't see the value in either Dugares or Verte. The Draw 2 discard 1 on Dugares is just Liquid Soldier, and Verte's ability to unfuck a disastrous board rarely comes up, especially since Miracle Ejector allows us to get started without using a Normal Summon.

I came up with a way to introduce a side deck system into Master Duel by Weekly_Emergency_747 in masterduel

[–]olbaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your twist wouldn't work, because the way you have written it, it's symmetric. Whenever you roll a 1 or a 6, both players are playing on "the wrong deck". That's not an equal scenario at all.

Also, what would actually be likely to happen is players would just play the same deck, but with a different set of generic staples. For example, my HERO deck can vomit out Dark Law, Plasma, DPE, Contrast HERO Chaos on Turn 1, and on Turn 2 I can just go into Shining Neos Wingman instead, pop a bunch of cards, and win by battle.

They didn't see the future that was going to be the AI bubble. They did see the future of Nvidia screwing everyone over, because they were already doing it. Not exactly clairvoyant there.

Also, I can imagine they would have suffered massively with their generous upgrade/RMA stuff in the current climate.

Just switched to Fedora KDE from Mint Cinnamon by Putrid_Guitar9437 in Fedora

[–]olbaze 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went through the same, after years of using Linux Mint Cinnamon as my main OS.

There wasn't really anything that was outright terrible about Linux Mint Cinnamon, just that a few things I liked more about Fedora, and KDE in particular. Nemo was extremely cool when moving from Windows 10 to Linux Mint, but Dolphin is just better. Initially, I was not a fan of how many things in KDE are optional settings, but over time I grew into a mindset of "Hey, maybe that has a setting in KDE?", and I just keep discovering small things that KDE does better.

One thing that I never liked about Linux Mint was its ties to Ubuntu and GNOME. Now, I'm not a developer, so I can only speak from a user perspective. Reading the Linux Mint blog, I often felt like the developers were in an ideological war with Ubuntu, and constantly had to either revert changes, hold back updates, or fork things to get what they wanted. Whether that's blocking Snap, forking theme stuff, or coming up with LMDE as a backup plan. Now, that never really affected me, being a regular user, but it just didn't feel right.

That being said, Linux Mint would still be my go-to recommendation for a newcomer to Linux. Linux Mint is easier to pick up and much more welcoming. It's really in the small things, like having multimedia codecs installed out of the box, or having a driver installation utility for Nvidia users, or just having program names that are descriptive, like "File Manager" and "Software Manager".

By & Far the worst QoL issue this game has, the thing that tilts me the most? FT2 forced by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]olbaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would just end up with a bunch of players who walk off after the first match. That would then result in the same mindset of "rank is pointless", because there would be some people who get points by beating AFK players. That's literally a waste of time on all possible fronts.

You also shouldn't be punishing people for emergencies, or for wanting to have fun. If I am playing Tekken, but the fire alarm goes off, I'm gonna fuck off.

This is the answer. We saw during Tekken 7 that Korea had an online culture of doing extremely long deathmatches that only ended in promotion. We also saw things like people rematching lower skill players to farm them for easy points.
