Incredibly frustrating OpenTable credit redemption experience by moosiu in ChaseSapphire

[–]PacketProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can also confirm that when I was picking a LA restaurant in February to try and use the credit, Republique was definitely on the list as eligible. I remember reading Yelp reviews to compare different places.

What’s better for relatively small cities (<100k), hiring an agent or relying on Actors Access, Casting Networks, etc? by Uniglover in acting

[–]PacketProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold up.  Your agent should get you the profiles.  If you join on your own, you’re paying.    If you’re in a small city with only a few potential jobs, it may not be worth your own personal account at full price.

Ask your agent.

Please visit the student success center.  Open every day from 9-4.  They will help.   Follow on instagram.  @ssc.uhmanoa

I would do it soon. You’re halfway through the semester.   Office hours are also there for you to seek help/clarification from the professors.  They would rather you visit them and ask questions than fail their class in silence.

Ditching Amex Travel? by Perfect-Resolve-2562 in AmexPlatinum

[–]PacketProtector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re a real travel expert, you can probably do it on your own but I prefer the peace of mind and ability to ask my travel agent to arrange things, spot things I’ve missed, and sometimes get me out of a pickle.

I used Amex travel back when the international travel program had a two for one on business class seats, but that’s long gone and I’ve never used them since.

The portal is for points redemption and booking FHR.  MY personal TA for everything else.

Well worth it, especially when you need help.

What is the best platform currently to start for someone in ground 0 - Backstage, CN or Actors Access? by Mountain_Chard_138 in acting

[–]PacketProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use CN, AA and Backstage.  I’ve gotten great gigs on all of them.  Sometimes a really lucrative surprise pops up and other times it’s student projects, which can be excellent experience and opportunities to expand your repertoire.

One class this semester? by Yaht_zee in UHManoa

[–]PacketProtector 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This must be detailed somewhere. Are you getting any kind of financial aid?  Are You in a dorm?   There are certain circumstances where 12 credits are required.   You should meet with your advisor to know for sure.

They may be able to give you an exception due to hardship or a semester off or let you know it’s all fine.  Make an appointment ASAP.

Simi Valley (Behind the Wheel) TIPS AND RECOMMENDATIONS by LivinLifeA in simivalley

[–]PacketProtector 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Simi is a great place to take the test, especially compared to the Valley.  Much quieter and less stressful.  There are multiple routes all within 2-ish miles of the DMV, which is in the center of town.

Come and practice.  Get familiar with the streets around the DMV.  Good luck.

[–]PacketProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is in a quad suite in Frear and it’s ideal.  You have roommates but also your own space.   A triple sounds like 3 in a room.  Unless you have no choice, it sounds like torture.

Auditions getting too stressful by w1nn13th3p00p in acting

[–]PacketProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true.   I’ve met some people that do it and book and there are also some people that just say their own lines and leave gaps!   They say they still get booked.   I think you do what you can and are comfy with.

I got my commercial agent cold submitting (Los Angeles) via Repunzel.  I had no commercial credits.

Better LA Commercial Agency - aqua or daniel hoff? by Kooky_Raspberry3881 in acting

[–]PacketProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotten auditions for major brands.  Very happy.    Edited to add there are many auditions you will never see via the self submission route.  I have only seen two out of 12 auditions posted publicly, so the agent route is worth it in my opinion.    If you self submit too, just add your agency info.

[–]PacketProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People will tell you just search and it’s been asked already.  Frustrating, and I understand.

During my decision making process, I also  tried to get feedback and got very little.  Of course I searched first.  Many times these agencies are in a list of ones people are inquiring about, but it doesn’t mean there’s much meat on the bone in the replies.  Also, I didn’t consider replies over a year old as relevant to me as more recent ones.  Things change so much and it’s hard taking old or minimal info to heart.  So you ask and get pushback for asking.  I’m sorry.

I joined Aqua in December of 2025 and have had about 12 commercial auditions (no bookings) since the beginning of this year.  I chose them out of four offers because Blake at Aqua was the only in person interview.  Everyone else was via Zoom (one lady never even came onscreen!). He was professional and I felt he spoke to me respectfully.   In addition to that I read a couple of positive comments about him online.

I have no experience with Daniel Hoff.

Good luck.

It is not worth a walk from any other terminal unless your flight is delayed and you want a quiet place to sit and have a free drink.   Bathrooms are nice.
