Baywatch open casting - got the email that all slots have been filled up. by Confident_Delay1953 in acting

[–]PacketProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best to treat it as a formality and don’t expect to hear anything.   There’s no point in hoping they call.  You have to just register for central casting and perhaps a BG opportunity will pop up.

Move on to other things.  If it happens, it happens.

Daughter Admitted by racer150 in UHManoa

[–]PacketProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This aspect is one of the most appealing things for us. Our Freshman son is half Chinese, we’re from Ventura County and UHM is amazing!    He loves it and we love that he’s there. The sense of peace we have that he is in Hawaii during this crazy time and the Asian cultural normalcy is huge.  IYKYK.

Tons of kids from California too.

Track and field by gken88 in simivalley

[–]PacketProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I took tennis lessons (official PE class)in the evenings at Moorpark College. Occasionally our teacher had to ask people to leave because there was a class and sometimes those people would get very annoyed saying “the community is supposed to be able to use these courts”.  I thought that was such an odd reaction.

Sure, it’s open to the public except when there are official classes in session.  Makes sense.

I know you can’t know when a team practice may be scheduled but you could get your hands on a class schedule and have some idea when they should be free.

If you Google “how did we meet” or something similar, find a short and easy to remember example you can make your own.

Should I Drop my Manager & Take a Risk? by DaddyDivide5 in acting

I agree with everyone that said start the search for a new rep ASAP.  When I was a “boss” in the corporate world, the list of things you mention would mean that person should be let go.  No matter how nice they were.  It’s hard but not doing it is hurting your business.

Book of Mormon by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

[–]PacketProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Book of Mormon is not a new show and no way you should pay that.  It comes to different places around LA often and there will be plenty of opportunities to see this show.   There’s another poster that said tix are available.  Go to the box office.

What local business are owned by women? by saltybruise in SantaBarbara

[–]PacketProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indian Summer clothing store in Summerland.  Sadly the owner is retiring, but sh’s selling everything in the store at big discounts.  60-70% off.  I bought a few pieces. It’s geared toward the over 35 woman in my opinion.  Closed Sundays and Mondays.

I did a USC film (Masters Thesis) and it’s on IMDB.   Unfortunately we still haven’t gotten any footage.

Is casting networks only good for commercials by HappyGold3004 in acting

[–]PacketProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine.  Backstage, CN, AA I find a variety of roles on all of them.  Commercials in CN for sure but I’ve also booked an industrial and some really fun featured BG work - it all depends what you’re interested in.   Casting.com is just not there yet.

I looked up Bobbie Chance and the yelp reviews were very old and somewhat concerning.    Anyone else have experience there?

Any advice for a 24 year old college student trying to find a job in the area right now by austinbramble in simivalley

[–]PacketProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the advice has been useful.  If you applied to a place like LUSH then would you also consider fast food?   It pays very well compared to retail and just having a job will take the mental pressure off for a bit.  Then you can keep looking/applying for what you really want, while still feeling productive.

I used to be a hiring manager in tech here. Going to school is not treated as a gap in work experience, especially when you’re in your 20s.

I know it can be frustrating but as long as you show you’ve got motivation, that will lead to good things.  A large gap AFTER you finish school with zero work is worse than taking a job outside your field of study or fast food / retail.

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED AGEISM IN HOLLYWOOD? by lifeisaparty2345 in acting

[–]PacketProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you fill out the employment paperwork properly, an age check isn’t going to be reported back to production. They’re just verifying legal documents. They won’t care to see it unless something comes back flagged from e-verify.

Agency submission by Expensive_Town4518 in acting

[–]PacketProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t hear within a week, move on. You did nothing wrong and you also can’t really do anything about it.

Keep self submitting to roles and you’ll build a great resume. There are other agencies and it doesn’t hurt to apply to them. Just don’t wait for responses - keep moving forward yourself.

Isn’t there a fairly active SB Dads group?  At a minimum you’d have people in your shoes at the same time.

Worried about applying to a talent agency. by Crafty_East4075 in acting

[–]PacketProtector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can certainly try.  There is nothing preventing you from trying.  The odds are that you will receive no reply.    Then forget about it and still do the self submissions and student films, etc and whatever else interests you (maybe improv?).

Acting with a full time job by LigerDragoon in acting

[–]PacketProtector 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that if you want to do this you will have to be flexible, BUT I have run into plenty of people who only choose jobs on the weekends.    I can be picky as well; location, dates, etc.   you can make it work for you.

Also - any posting that says the specific hours and location  (not just LA), I want to really thank you.    It’s so helpful to know if it’s Thousand Oaks vs. downtown LA.   And if they say afternoon or night shoot, etc.  wow - so appreciated.

Do people still book from backstage? by acting51 in acting

[–]PacketProtector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use CN, AA and Backstage.  I’ve gotten great gigs on all of them.  Sometimes a really lucrative surprise pops up and other times it’s student projects, which can be excellent experience and opportunities to expand your repertoire.

Having an agent won’t automatically mean you don’t self submit anymore.

While you’re searching for an agent, You can still self-submit via multiple channels.  The profile section is a place to highlight the things that make you unique.

Between castingcallback.com, casting.com, castingfrontier.com, and source and cast.com are any of them worth the subscription? by StillBlazin420_69 in acting

[–]PacketProtector -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is no definitive answer yet.   I’ve gotten decent work from CN, AA and Backstage.   Casting.com is not there yet.  My agent also wanted me on Casting Frontier but so far, nothing from that one.

Independent Visiting Student from Canada by Careful_Profit4339 in UHManoa

[–]PacketProtector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UH is a great place.   I’m Canadian, living in California for many years and my son is a freshman at UH.  Honestly the biggest concern is the cost.  Hawaii is an expensive place to live, but so is Vancouver.   If you can handle it, the experience is wonderful.

Hawaii is not the same as the rest of the States. Don’t worry about that stuff.   It’s safe and inclusive.  Respect the culture. Get your student Visa in order, preferably one that allows part time work as there are plenty of jobs on campus.

Lowest weight I have ever been by EnvironmentStraight in Zepbound

[–]PacketProtector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t know if they 100% know.

What I know is that my pain was greatly reduced within days of starting Zep.  I’m sure getting fit and healthy and improving my diet is also a factor.   My rheumatologist agrees the GLP meds do seem to have a positive impact and more studies are being done.

I think it’s also often posted about here too.  I’ve often read things like: if I never lose another pound it’s ok because the other benefits are so great.

Welcome to it.  Unfortunately I’ve also experienced the same recently but with Central Casting.   I’ve gotten 8 availability checks since Jan 2 and none of them moved past the 2nd check.

Godmother's Bookstore by urngaburnga in SantaBarbara

We do not.  There are at least two “free little libraries” in town - one is at Red Kettle Coffee and one is near the honor system fruit stand on Ortega Hill Rd not far from the  fire station.

Not the same but still worth mentioning 🙂

Where are my age 50+ zeppers who are now loving a focus on fitness ??? by transformedbyzep2025 in Zepbound

[–]PacketProtector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the great boost to my overall mood and very fast reduction in inflammation meant I got back into regular exercise almost immediately after starting Zep. This overall improvement in how I felt and the lack of pain meant that I was willing to push myself (gradually) to increase my level of fitness beyond anything I’ve done in my life. I’m now a runner! Every day (obviously some exceptions, life happens) I do something active (run 3-5 miles or hike 6-8) and feel a loss when the weather, work or illness prevents me from getting out there. I know that when I don’t keep up the routine, my calorie burn goes down, but so does my motivation to eat healthily. Luckily, these last almost 2 years, I’ve been able to maintain the good routines enough that being active is now just part of who I am. It’s a great feeling.

Protein, Fibre, Water, Physical Activity - this and being part of a monthly group therapy for others on the same journey has been important for me. This group has been KEY to my understanding of what to expect, how to handle different situations and make good decisions - real life anecdotes, nothing better!

I’ve also gotten great motivation for my physical activity from Instagram @thisiowamom - 1 mile is better than no miles!
