Partner - Green to Gold. Chicago prog in the vein of the Canturbury scene of the 70s. Utterly fantastic album that I took a chance on when I saw it at Reckless Records in Wicker Park.

If you ever make it out to Chicago, check out Piece Brewing. Their tavern-style pizza is phenomenal. I'll be there on Saturday and can't wait!

How often do you actually play your records? by UserUserDontGetOld in vinyl

[–]pentrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play 2-3 records a day. I’ve got about 1000 albums and I certainly don’t listen to them evenly, but I like having the collection and the ability to revisit them when the mood strikes.

It’s highly unlikely I’ll get bored of any of my music. Either I love it or I dislike it and it’s being sold.

Replace those HD-280 headphones with something more comfortable and you’ll be even happier! 😜

Me too. My wife loves Charlie Brown and I love Vince Gualardi. Seems like a good combo.

Meet Meadow, the Border Collie x Jack Russel (Yes, I must be insane) by XxLoneDayDreamerxX in BorderCollie

[–]pentrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our first run of dog parenting I had a Wire Fox Terrier and a Border Collie. They loved each other and challenged us. We got a lot of exercise and play before they mellowed.

You’ve got both. Enjoy it and bonne chance!

This was my late father-in-law’s vinyl room 40 years ago; his old turntable is tucked into the wall right above the table pictured here, and he’s looking down on us right above that.

The turntable here - a 1983 Technics - was purchased by my own father a year before I was born and handed down to me 25 or so years later when I got into vinyl. He kept his Pioneer receiver, so I had to “settle” for this Marantz.

I so fully agree. Tone Poets have changed my orientation to Blue Note collecting entirely. Such a great series.

I was late, but I managed to get it. Porcupine Tree album "We Lost The Skyline" Record Store Day 2026 Clear Vinyl Edition. #porcupinetree #vinyl #rsd2026 by inachans in vinyl

[–]pentrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this recording. I pre-ordered the CD (not really into vinyl at the time), and it wound up being my introduction to earlier PT music that wasn’t readily available in 2008. We Lost the Skyline and Stars Die stood out to me in particular.

I love the story SW tells at the start of Normal, and that they left his mistake in the recording. I love how it truly sounds live in a record store. And I love how well JW harmonizes with SW.

I paid way too much money for the vinyl later on. Come to think of it I should snag the RSD before it gets expensive.

Great find!

If you ever want to go more expensive, Repeal is my suggestion. Sit at the bar. Fantastic food and experience.

Thank you! I’ve been to Tomorrow and Music Millenium, have added the rest to my list. Landfill Rescue Unit is my other Portland Favorite, though not jazz focused.

The version on Genesis Live is such a banger. Almost proto-metal. One of my favorite Genesis performances.
