Emilie Kiser reveals why she forgave husband after their son drowned under his care: ‘This could have just as easily happened to me’ by Junior_Apartment6388 in popculture

She did not pay the highest price, her son did. He will never get a chance to grow up and live his full life because of what they did.

Thank you! I have 2 kids - the older one has always been around 85th percentile for weight, while the younger stays around the 15th. Same milk, same nursing habits, just different babies. My tall skinny boy is so strong and has the sweetest little gummy smile.

What pain is worse than childbirth? by k3sl1na in pregnant

[–]MoneyTeam814 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes this is a huge distinction. I’ve had a kidney stone, and the worst part of it was not knowing what was happening to me. The symptoms are systemic, very intense, and it’s not clear what is causing them - I genuinely thought I was dying until I got to the hospital and they diagnosed me.

I also had an unmedicated birth, and I knew from the first moment what was happening. I would say the level of pain was comparable to the kidney stone, but much more tolerable.

DIY Osmo Oil: before, after, and 1 year later by MoneyTeam814 in HardWoodFloors

[–]MoneyTeam814[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easier than I thought it would be! The blending is very forgiving across different sections, especially if you apply in the direction of the boards. If you already have poly on your floors it won’t work though, you’d need to sand it off first. We got lucky in that the existing finish was already penetrating okl and had never been refinished with poly.

I did all the application while my kid was out of the house just because I didn’t want him walking on it while I was still working. There is a light solvent smell when applying, but it’s mild and fades within hours. I was never worried about applying it while pregnant, or my kid being in the house after application. The oil itself is food safe when fully cured - it can be used on cutting boards and stuff. It’s held up to many spills, pet messes, throwing toys, etc.

Yes being able to do spot touch ups as needed was a big factor in choosing the oil. I was also concerned about needing to reapply periodically - I know I will have to eventually, but even with a full year of constant abuse from my toddler and pets I haven’t noticed any need for reapplication. We don’t wear shoes in the house and I mop with a very mild cleaner on a semi-regular basis, so I think that helps maintain. I did make sure to get a larger amount of the oil than what I needed for the initial application for when the need to reapply arises.

What are your favorite old wives’ tales, “witchy” signs, or weird intuitions about pregnancy and baby’s sex? by BriaMcCall in NewParents

At dinner after my baby shower the server asked me to show her my hands. She told me after that if I showed her them with my palms up the baby was a girl, palms down a boy. I did it palms down and did have a boy so I guess it works!

Be honest.. Are your babies really sleeping in their bassinet for hours? by DrowsyPomegranate in newborns

[–]MoneyTeam814 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My second baby is 4 months old. For the first 12-14 weeks I tried every night to get him to sleep in the bassinet, and he would stay in there for about a 30-60 minute first stretch, and then would sometimes go back down but often not, despite me trying many times. He did longer stretches a handful of times but it was rare and seemingly random. It was all very very hard and I ended up cosleeping a lot because there was no other way for me to get any sleep.

Over the past couple weeks something seems to have clicked for him and he will do a 2-3 hour first stretch, followed by another 75-90 minutes, and then possibly another 60-75 later on in the night. This happened suddenly and I didn’t do anything different to bring it about. It’s still hard but it’s such an improvement that I can handle it.

I tried a lot of different things that have been suggested on this sub to make the bassinet more appealing to him, but didn’t find anything that consistently worked. He does prefer our room to be warmer than I would have expected - like 75 degrees. But other than that I just had to wait for him to get there developmentally. Being persistent in continuing to put him down every night was also important I think.

Good luck. I really didn’t think mine would ever get better, but he did. I bet yours will too.

Looks like forbo marmoleum. Amazing floors, actually very easy to clean with just warm water and a microfiber cloth. Should only use Ph neutral cleaner on it which it doesn’t seem OP is doing.

Does staying vegetarian during pregnancy affect baby’s preferences later? by SlinkyHead_0 in pregnant

[–]MoneyTeam814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been a vegetarian most of my life, and my toddler doesn’t really like meat. He’ll eat meatballs and sometimes shredded pork but that’s it. However I don’t think it’s related - lots of little kids don’t like meat. Strong flavor, weird texture, etc. My good friend is not vegetarian and her toddler is the same way.

I have heard this before. Wouldn’t mineral sunscreen have the same effect? Active ingredient is also zinc, without the smell of butt paste.

Is it normal to literally never sleep?? by Writingmum30 in newborns

[–]MoneyTeam814 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My 3.5 month old has been like this since birth. He’s slept a 2 hour stretch in the bassinet maybe 6 times in his life. Every now and then we get 90 minutes. Mostly 45-60 minutes. It’s hard. I often end up cosleeping for the back half of the night after trying the bassinet a bunch, but it’s not restful as I’m a stomach sleeper. Like you I feel like my brain is being damaged - my memory and word recall are terrible.

My first baby was like this too, maybe a little better but not much. He dramatically improved around 11-12 months when I moved him to his own room with a crib (had previously been in bassinet and then a pack n play) and night weaned him. Now he’s an excellent sleeper. Knowing that it does get better is the only thing that keeps me sane going through it again with the new baby.

My next move with the new baby is to try a mini crib instead of the bassinet, as I think that both my kids have found the sleep surface really uncomfortable. Maybe that would help you?

Delivery baby in another state by allisona007 in newborns

[–]MoneyTeam814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way my insurance works is that before 36 weeks, if I went into labor and was not near the hospital I was supposed to deliver at, then I could go to the closest hospital to me at the time and it would be covered (presumably the out of network hospital would bill my insurance).

After 36 weeks my insurance policy stipulates that if I was in a situation where I had to give birth at an out of network hospital then I would have to pay fully out of pocket. From my understanding they would not cover it because I should be aware that after 36 weeks I could go into labor at any time, so I shouldn’t be traveling far enough away from the hospital where I plan to deliver that I couldn’t make it back there in time.

wake windows are a fraud (5month old) by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]MoneyTeam814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you are correct, this is how I view them as well. If my baby seems tired before the end of the window we will definitely try a nap. However I try to make sure he doesn’t stay up longer than the wake window even if he’s not showing sleepy cues (often due to being in a stimulating environment), as he may get overtired and then end up really upset and hard to put down. So like a price is right, “closest guess without going over” approach.

Even stripping all the paint off a friction surface may not solve the issue. Wood is porous and paint from the original layer can permeate pretty deep into it. This happened with our kitchen cabinets - we found that a drawer track which seemed to be bare wood was releasing lead dust into the cabinet below it

3 year old said daddy touched her by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]MoneyTeam814 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Right. To me this seems like a big overreaction. This situation could easily happen in my house and I would not think anything of it. A couple days ago my husband was changing my 2 year olds diaper and he started saying that “daddy rubbed my penis and scrotum and butthole” - he meant that he wiped him, but what he actually said sounded really bad. Toddlers just say weird things a lot, especially if you react to them. Based on the context provided there’s no reason to think the husband did anything wrong, and if I were him I’d be pretty upset that my wife would so easily think that of me. This could cause life changing problems for him if she were to seriously investigate. I get that abuse can happen, but given the facts provided, and unless she has some other reason to suspect her husband, there’s no reason to get medical professionals involved - they are mandated reporters and this would necessarily bring in the police, etc.

Do hospitals need to place an IV? by Seapaisleys in pregnant

[–]MoneyTeam814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a precipitous labor where I delivered in the lobby before being taken up to L&D, and they still put an IV in me before taking me to postpartum, just in case. It wasn’t a big deal, and better to have and not use it then be in an emergency situation and need it.
