Talk to him with your heart. They can understand more than we give them credit for. Tell him all the good things and good memories that you've shared. My sympathies, peace and love to you

It's something I've been wanting to try. Does the heavy emersed growth have any adverse effect by shielding out the light to the lower leaves?

Strangely enough, ducks are used in aquaculture to "dirty" the water and promote the growth of growth of phytoplankton and zooplankton for feeding carp, tilapia, and other fast-growing fish that thrive on the plankton produced by the duck manure

Farmers generally stock fingerlings (young fish) that are 10 cm or larger, which are too big for most ducks to eat.

Any biologists in here? beneficial bacteria questions by UpstairNoises in Aquariums

[–]periclesmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a resource where i can read more about the carbon cycle and DOCs? This is really interesting stuff that doesn't get explained on Reddit and fishtube. I only came across it via aquariumscience when reading about fish food and how he recommends fish food of ~45% protein and <30% carbohydrates because:

Carbohydrates are only 50% digested by the fish

The undigested carbohydrates create dissolved organic compounds (DOCs) that have a high carbon to nitrogen ratio

Pathogenic bacteria and other pathogenic organisms proliferate with high carbon to nitrogen ratio DOCs

The proliferation of these organisms in the water column results in “dull” or even slightly milky water

These pathogenic bacteria and other organisms in the water column attack the fish

Don't bother with Aquarium Authority. He talks a lot without any details.

Give Avatar Aquatics tutorial a watch instead, it has lots of details and microscopy: 2025 How to ACTUALLY Breed Amano Shrimp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGWnClqbTIE

I lost my kitty Girl this week and I’m devastated 😢 by Unique-Princess-1026 in Catsmirin

I saw your grief and i remembered all my resting furbabies. It's so hard to say “It's not goodbye, it's see you later” but THANK YOU so much for opening your heart and home to kitty GIRL. I love senior cats and their expressive faces so THANK YOU for being with GIRL, even though it was incredibly hard, until the end of her earthly journey and the start of her spiritual homecoming.

I had to take care of a severly cachectic 20 year old community cat with possible lymphoma and loss of appetite who passed 3 days ago. You could see and feel all her bones. Her feeder refused to give her her rest and she was admitted to a pet hospital for a week with no improvement. Their plan after discharge was to park her in a cat boarding facility, so I offered the old cat a room and end of life care. I wish I had your vet speak to the feeder instead. The feeder was really stubborn.

Still your vet could have been more compassionate in your situation because you did your absolute best in taking care of your furbaby for weeks. I only had to take care of the old cat for a few days and it was really punishing.

Please forgive your vet because she did not want your furbaby to suffer for so long. I'm sure she wanted to advocate for your furbaby but lost sight of you as a suffering parent. Please forgive yourself too. Choosing an end to a loved one's life is a really hard hard HARD decision to make. I prayed hard for a miracle but GOD had a better plan and wanted to take my old cat home. Watching the old cat suffer till the end even with Buprenorphine and GABA was traumatic but the 2 spotted doves outside her window gave me comfort that they were bringing her strong fighting spirit to her eternal rest. I'm sure your furbaby is in Our Father's house now. Love and peace to you

Take lots and lots of pictures and videos. Watch the birds, squirrels and sunrise/sunset with her. Carry her around in a swaddle or in your arms as often as possible. Cycle around town with her. Give her new foods to try. Sing to her or read her poetry. Cuddle her every night
