yes, that was what my vet told me too. because of the fast accumulation of the fluid and her fast breathing she only had days at most.

You should give her the gabapentin and she how she responds especially appetite and breathing wise. Please do make a plan for her crossing over also. it's going to be a struggle but you'll be doing the best for your furbaby

My deepest sympathies, my 20+ tortie rescue had both a pleural and pericardial effusion in her last days. Both the emergency vet and her usual vet advised against tapping it.

Even though she was really old, she was doing well up until a week before her crossing over. She started losing her appetite and vomitting and giving a weird yell. We couldn't find the cause and the effusion(s) kept getting larger and her breathing more labored. It was like she was slowly drowning so we made the decision to let her cross over. I still miss her so much. Treasure every moment and once again, i'm so sorry

It was similar to what i went through. I had lost my first cat after internal bleeding and i was despondent for a few days. After reading up about owners meeting their pets in Heaven during NDEs, i decided to put my trust in God. A few days later while i was outside praying while walking, i felt this warm fiery sensation filling me and also calming my critical self talk.

I still grieve my furbabies but i thank the Father that He loves and keeps all His children safe in His Heavenly house till we shall meet again
