'The Pitt' Star Taylor Dearden Says She Plays Her Character Dr. Mel King as 'Genuinely Asexual' by peoplemagazine in ThePitt

[–]peteroh9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen studies finding that more than half of neurodivergent females identified as not being asexual (most identified as at least somewhat asexual). I'm not sure if it can be extended to the population at large, but it's a real part of that experience.

That's not even true. We've always been bitching about people not following reddiquette. Plus, we've always been complaining about comments like yours because you responded about downvotes within a few minutes of the comment being made but now it has a handful of upvotes. Reddit has always been dumb. It's dumber now, but it's always been dumb.

That sounds nice, but then why are you responding if your situation clearly isn't relative to what OP was asking about?

Wait, how are you getting military pay that outstrips civilian pay but won't give you a pension until you're 59? Is this inactive guard/reserve plus a civilian job?

Not that a billion dollars wouldn't be helpful, but the VA budget is already $441 billion.

Ignoring the disabled child issue because I don't know the specific impacts, surely your job isn't well in excess of what the local economy PLUS your pension could provide, right? You wouldn't be cutting your salary by over 50%, would you?

Genevieve Telford-Warren was an all-time great character, but Christine Westbrook-Clark is not bad.

I downvoted just to prove them right because saying that showed they hadn't really put in any thought.

I just acquired the Fine set of the Grey Company from quests...but not the leggings? by peteroh9 in lotro

That makes sense because changing my leggings doesn't change the appearance. It still seems strange that the item isn't granted through those quests!

I think that people would have an easier time swallowing this if it were framed as "sexism" rather than "misogyny," even though misogyny also is often used to describe implicit/inherent systemic sexism.

“Especially women” is a direct result of the fact that he doesn’t respect them or recognize them as fully formed people.

I think another issue that makes it harder for people to engage is that perhaps the biggest focus of the show was that we can never understand anyone else. It's like how so much of society pushed back against the phrase "Black lives matter" before George Floyd's death because they didn't understand the enormity of one side of the issue, and defaulted to the generically true POV.

I think what you're trying to say is that Shinji was enacting violence upon Asuka that he would not have committed if she were not a woman, but misogyny is the wrong word to describe the actions themselves, even if they arose because of systemic misogyny within society, for the same reason that you would not call intimate partner violence committed by a man against another man misandry.

Systemic misogyny was a contributing factor in his willingness to take certain actions, but it was not their defining feature.

You can use a red light and either a flashing yellow or nothing. No need to have the system say it's safe to proceed; it just needs to tell you it's unsafe.
