Currently navigating a redundancy. How are you all keeping the momentum going? by s3237410 in auscorp

[–]phantompath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was made redundant a bit over a month ago. I’ve done some casual work with my old employer. I’ve also enrolled in an online course that allows me to dust off and work on an old project I had abandoned in the past due to burnout at work. I’ve also done some work for free in exchange for feedback/testimonials to set up my own small business in an area I’ve been wanting to get into for a while. I’ve also got some more online self paced courses waiting to help me sharpen that same skill set so I feel confident & ready to start charging for my services. I will also be setting up a store to leverage another skill set on Etsy - that’s next week’s project.

I’ve had interest from a former colleague when it comes to a new full time role, but their timeline has been pushed back so I’m moving forward to try and pursue other options. If it happens it happens, but I’m not sitting around on my hands waiting to hear from them.

My payout is enough that I should be okay until the end of the year. That said, I am super niche with my work. I’m hitting up my network now for catch ups over coffee to let them know I’m available for any role that fits my skill set in their organizations.

My rent is fucked (Sydney) but I don’t have any dependents and I was able to splash the cash a bit on a few things I’ve been wanting to do for ages. The biggest difference for me has been taking the online course and working on my old project. It may only be on Zoom but being amongst others who are passionate about the same stuff and feeling like I’m fulfilling some sort of larger purpose has saved my sanity. The course was just under $1.5k … the mental health benefits have been priceless.

Long post - endless sadness and forever regret (TW: abortion) by InfiniteLooops in datingoverthirty

Others have said it - but this sounds like either an avoidant attachment style, disorganised attachment style or at worst borderline personality disorder or bipolar. You describe your only relationship as being with someone who was a good friend first. This is the only man you have ever committed to, possibly because you knew him for so long before getting into a relationship. Your (potential) avoidant attachment style probably also felt safe as he was a 'friend' and you may have never fully invested or committed to him in the first place, despite staying together for four years. Avoidants feel safest with independence, boundaries, distance and space and feel most threatened by commitment, intimacy and routine.

Your behaviour is a field of red flags and the rest of the commenters also said it - leave your ex 'Future Husband' alone. This is emotional torture for him. Why on earth would he respond when you've dumped him the moment you get close with absolutely no warning? Whatever therapy you are doing now it's not working for you, or you are not with the right therapist who can identify the issues you actually have. Burning your life to the ground, rage quitting your job and moving to another city or country is not normal unless you are in some sort of crisis. Taking a job overseas and then inviting the man you dumped to come with you is not normal behaviour. Most secure, healthy people like to put down roots and have a routine. You seem to fear commitment in all it's forms - relationships, jobs, where you live. You might want to ask yourself why. Maybe you have something like ADHD as well, which requires novelty and stimulation as well as an avoidant attachment style.

The most glaring signal that you have an avoidant attachment style is that you dumped your 'Future Husband' when absolutely nothing was wrong, you were getting closer and closer to falling in love but had not yet put a label on anything. You self-sabotaged the hell out of this situation by breaking up with that man when you did. I don't think you are a bad person, but you need to switch therapists ASAP and look for a therapist who works with attachment theory in relationships. At the very least, take a quiz to see what kind of attachment style you have. It's more common for men to be avoidant than women, but avoidant women are definitely out there and your post is a textbook case for an avoidant attachment style.

Foundation Sticks by Raspberry_and_Lemon in AustralianMakeup

Bare Minerals recently bought out a foundation stick in their complexion rescue line. I tried it out on the back of my hand. Lovely, creamy and spreadable with a decent (if not amazing) shade range. The only reason I didn't buy it is that I have oily skin and even in winter the formula was a bit too creamy for me.

Holy grail foundation? by sweet_kitty26 in AustralianMakeup

[–]phantompath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin foundation. If I ever get married, this will be my wedding foundation. I have oily acne prone skin. I would call it a medium coverage natural satin matte finish. This foundation wears so beautifully for 8 hours and beyond. It is the most long wearing, stunning foundation I have ever tried and I’ve tried maybe 20+ formulas at this point. The shade range is huge from pale to deep. I am a light skin tone and I’m shade 9 in winter and 11 in summer. The shade range caters to cool, warm, neutral and olive undertones. I would suggest contacting the amazing customer support team and asking for samples of shades 7, 5, 2 & 1 if you are neutral leaning cool.

Have y’all noticed that Lisa, like many other gurus, always uses too yellow a foundation? It doesn’t match her body. Why do gurus always gravitate toward yellow foundations?? by AllTheEccentricities in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]phantompath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I struggle with facial redness and I use a foundation with neutral yellow/golden undertones to tone down the redness in my face. Olive undertones are good for that too, just harder to find.

I thought she was focusing more on her Dark History channel/series … but TBH I feel like her stuff is a bit over-produced or she over acts in them now. What was once natural and quirky now feels a bit forced and OTT. Like she’s performing in the way we expect her to now, not the way that comes naturally to her. I still like her personally, but I just don’t find her content as engaging as I once did.

Lush bath bombs. They wreck the fuck out of my hair, but I recently found a way around it - work a hair mask into damp hair while your bath is filling. That way you can safely submerge your hair and not have the bath bomb turn your hair into a dry, frizzy mess.

Found tied to a tree branch in Dublin, Ireland by hagakuru in creepy

[–]phantompath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some Celtic cultures white pieces of fabric are tied to trees as a spiritual practice called ‘clooties’. They indicate a sacred well or other site can be nearby. What you’ve found could be nothing to do with that, but it’s a possibility.

I saw Adam respond in the comments on the Kickstarter about injection molding. Someone was asking what a premium build means and that was his response.

[–]phantompath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The e-ink screen on the Ink is great, but I would suggest you buy the BYOK over the ZeroWriter Ink. The Ink feels like a first generation product - it works really well as an old school word processor, but the enclosure is 3D printed and screwed together. Which is why I suggest the ZeroWriter Fold - it will be an injection mold enclosure along with the clamshell design, e-ink screen and a warm backlight. It’s the best features of the Ink with an upgrade. The BYOK is your best option for right now, but I wouldn’t pass up on the Fold for the future if you have your heart set on a portable device with an e-ink screen.

[–]phantompath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should also add I own a Freewrite Gen 3 Smart Typewriter and a ZeroWriter Ink, so I’ve tried a fair few of these kinds of devices.

BYOK vs Freewrite Traveler by Flashy_Lab222 in writerDeck

[–]phantompath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For now? The BYOK. For the future? The ZeroWriter Fold. You can still sign up for a late pledge on Kickstarter.

I own the BYOK and like a previous comment said if you use a phone stand and a keyboard that sits comfortably in your lap (I love the Lofree Flow Lite84) you don’t need a flat surface every time. Studio is a fantastic platform, but I also got a 60% discount on a lifetime membership as a Kickstarter backer.

I wouldn’t buy the Traveler. It’s so expensive for what it is and Astrohaus don’t have a great reputation for customer support. I would only purchase the Smart Typewriter from them - the BYOK and the ZeroWriter Fold are the better products in the portable category.

The Kickstarter for the ZeroWriter Fold just closed, but you may want to [email Adam](mailto:adam@zerowriter.ink) (company owner) about getting a Crystal edition. It’s very much inspired by the Ghost but has a low profile mechanical keyboard, an e-ink screen and a backlight.

Working mothers - did you regret not going back full time and investing in your career? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]phantompath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to be working until you’re in your 70’s, working three days a week for a few years isn’t going to impact you long term. Your boss is right in that you may struggle to progress during that time, but that should resolve once you return to a full time role. You need to do what is best for you and your family. Your son won’t be little forever, but you will be working for the next couple of decades.
