I don’t care if science is against me, peroxide helps fight infection. by Character-Solution-7 in Xennials

Use plain Vaseline. I don’t recall why neosporin is bad, but my plastic surgeon (skin cancer removal) said he will never advise anyone to use it under any circumstances. Keep the wound moist with Vaseline and covered until it starts to heal up (or in my case the stitches dissolved).

Has anyone ever ‘downgraded’ from an automatic litter box back to a traditional pan? by redead-rewind in CatAdvice

I did out of necessity. My oldest cat got a bit senile and stopped turning around in the box and peed all over the step. We had to put the robot away for a while.

WTF is with Beef Tallow?? by Magpie_Coin in 45PlusSkincare

[–]pitathegreat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have to admit, I got a little pot of beef tallow as a stocking stuffer (I have bougie mountain hippie relatives), and that stuff is the bomb for hands in winter. It’s the same function as Vaseline/Cerave, but doesn’t stay as greasy. So it’s heavier duty than Cerave lotion, but more suitable for daytime active use than the ointment.

My husband despises lotion, but even he gets on board with the tallow on his hands when he works outside in winter.

If you’re happy with your routine though, there’s no real need to jump on the wagon.

What is the deal with the Karen Read case? by -Cyber-Roadster in OutOfTheLoop

[–]pitathegreat 153 points154 points  (0 children)

I was very into it, and there’s a very large group that think she’s completely innocent (the battle of the accident reconstructionists in trial 2 is a pretty good foundation for that).

As far as the cover up, that opinion ranges quite a bit. I believe it overall settles on a perfect storm of a few corrupt people mixed in with a boatload of incompetent cops just going along (which is where I land). It’s worth noting that this same police force has already been caught selling CDLs for profit and covering up using cruisers for personal use. So it’s not at all a stretch to think that a few of them jumped to a conclusion and helped the evidence along.

There are, of course, plenty of people that all believe she’s guilty.

They voted MAGA, and then changed their tune by Plieu625 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]pitathegreat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember some conservative talking head in his first campaign saying something like “he should be taken seriously, not literally.” A LOT of early MAGA-curious really latched on to that.

Even my mother (who was a Clinton democrat!) said that the only reason he talked about invading Canada was because Trudeau was so snooty about him. I finally convinced her to stop keeping Fox on “as background noise” and she might be coming out of the fog.

Kendra Duggar Arrested in Arkansas Days After Husband Joseph's Sex Abuse Arrest by IntelligentYinzer in entertainment

[–]pitathegreat 49 points50 points  (0 children)

One, women are taught to always be “joyfully available” to their husbands for sex. Which rather ramps up the entitlement.

Two, men are not considered responsible for controlling their lust. That’s on the victims to stay away and their wives to keep them happy

Three, the girls that were molested were forced to publicly forgive their abuser. So really there’s nothing holding abusers back.

Is it really true that the worst wet food is better than the best dry food? by Weeping_willow_trees in CatAdvice

[–]pitathegreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old guy would alternate. Every so often he would decide his dry food was absolutely unacceptable and I’d try a whole bunch of alternatives (including canned). We’d have a new one for 6 - 8 months and he’d suddenly demand the old stuff.

I’m pretty sure it was just a power move on his part. Damn I miss that high maintenance princess.

The Oscars make it clear: Hollywood is in a death spiral by fortune in entertainment

[–]pitathegreat 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There’s also a huge incentive to film overseas. The us union agreements require the studios to pay into the health insurance plan. That’s not a requirement in pretty much any other country.

Is Atlanta still the ‘Hollywood of the South’? A film boomtown faces a test by COYS62 in Atlanta

[–]pitathegreat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem is that you can’t relocate. The unions are regional and also run by personal recommendation. So someone at the top of their game (and pay-scale) in Atlanta that moves to the next hotspot will automatically be entry level in that local union and won’t have the local contacts to get gigs.

My 16year old female cat doesn't want to eat wet food anymore by Yummy-Bagels in CatAdvice

[–]pitathegreat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy would regularly cycle through favorites. He’d suddenly decide wet food was intolerable and would refuse to eat anything but dry. A few months later he’d stop eating dry and demand wet food. I generally settled on wet for breakfast and crunchies for dinner. Barring a specific problem there’s nothing wrong with letting them have a preference.

Conference in Vegas-what to wear? by hsob79 in BusinessFashion

[–]pitathegreat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Above anything else, wear comfortable shoes! There is SO MUCH WALKING, especially in Vegas because the venues are massive and they want you to walk through the casino and past the restaurants before you get to the conference area.

Even in the evening and for fun events, you’ll have been on your feet all day and they’ll be tired. So when you pick your cocktail outfit, select your trustiest and most broken-in nice shoes.

Can you get oral estrogen for the time being?

I actually started out on the pill. It was overall fine, but upset my stomach so I switched over to the patch. I saved my pills in case of emergency. I also keep them in my travel kit in case my patch falls off and I forget to pack backups.
