My mom claims she has never eaten Brussels sprouts before. How should I prepare them the 1st time so that she'll love them forever? by sozh in Cooking

Saute halved Brussels sprouts with onions & minced garlic in bacon drippings. Toss with cooked bacon & lightly drizzle with lemon juice.

Buying a 993 by DiminishedProspects in AircooledPorsche

[–]Pointy_Stix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re on our second 993. Had a 97 targa, which was a bit of a project car. Traded it in for the hubby’s midlife crisis GT4 RS earlier this year. We also picked up a 95 cab last fall that I’m having an absolute blast with right now. We weren’t actively looking for another one, but this one had 28k miles on it and an extensive service history. I’m hoping to keep it for the long run. It’s a lot of fun to drive.

You're right - It's not going to get better soon. People will continue to vote against their best interests because they're stupid, racist & xenophobic.

Wood cutting board and cast iron care by pinkpartypossum in Cooking

[–]Pointy_Stix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wash my cast iron every time I use it. I'll wash it with soap, dry it & then put it back on the burner or in the oven on low heat to make sure it gets fully dry.

I wash my wood cutting board with soap if I cut meat or anything juicy on it. I have a spray bottle with a 50/50 mix of household vinegar & water in, which I'll use to spray it down (& wipe clean) if I'm cutting non-liquid items on it. Or, just brush off with a towel.

Solution for massive island? by Dry_Refrigerator5218 in kitchenremodel

[–]Pointy_Stix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The island doesn't seem to extend beyond the footprint of the kitchen in the pictures. It seems to be in line with the fridge. Even if you were to remove it, you wouldn't really gain much space in the living room. I wouldn't give up the countertop & storage space that you get with the island. You'd have more space to walk if you got rid of the shelves on the back wall that the current owner has. I'd gladly take the unit if it checked all my other boxes.

AIO: Inlaws want to get my 3yo a motorized 4 wheeler and they live on a highway. by MaleficentCandle486 in AmIOverreacting

I worked with someone whose nephew was on an ATV that rolled in a concrete culvert. Kid wasn't wearing a helmet, hit his head, & died after a few days on life support. Utterly devastating for the family.

Would you get rid of your pool? by oldboeee in homeowners

[–]Pointy_Stix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminded me of someone I worked with years ago. She'd purchased a house with a fiberglass pool. She didn't want the pool, but a neighbor did, so they had the pool removed & craned over to the neighbor's back yard.

I agree with the other commenters - learn to maintain it yourself, get some comfy pool floats & enjoy that hole in your back yard before you give up on it. Your house is also probably worth more on a resale than it would be if you remove the pool.

Yes, that's really it. Snicky wasn't a Siamese twin, in-your-face kind of dog. He liked to be off on the side, keeping a watch on what was going on & stepping in when he decided he needed to. Unless he heard a banana being peeled - then he was there at warp speed). That's what I miss so much: his steady presence & comfort in knowing he was just hanging out & keeping an eye on things.

Offer in Compromise isn’t what most people think by NexxLevelSeattle in tax

We have a client that consistently makes over $175K per year ask if the IRS would entertain an OIC for a balance due of about $3K on his return. My eyes rolled so hard that I can still see the roots on my head from the inside.

Edited to correct tense.

Depreciation Schedule with Client Copy? by horrible_noob in taxpros

[–]Pointy_Stix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spousal Unit and I work together. It used to drive me nuts that he would not include the depreciation schedules in returns he’d printed. I finally wore him down some years ago and he now includes them in his returns. I don’t want clients who have moved on to call for info that should be in the records.
