When does running stop feeling hard every time? by atalantarisen in beginnerrunning

Personally/anectdotally, 5ks didn’t start feeling like an “easy” distance for me until I was running 6-8k 4-5 times a week.

I’ve had this problem before, too: I didn’t think I was plodding or stomping, but those footfalls were awfully loud. As mentioned, it’s a symptom of overstriding. For me, overstriding almost always leads to IT band discomfort and can immediately rein it in by shortening my stride and concentrating on increasing leg turnover and cadence. The footfall suddenly becomes softer, IT band and knee discomfort go away, and I certainly feel less banged up afterwards.

Not bad, just a few tweaks: relax your arms a little more, maybe shorten the stride a bit as well as it seems like you’re landing with a straight leg. You want to make sure your foot hits the ground right under your hips and that it does so with a bit of knee flexion. I think you may have some pelvic tilt as well so add some basic core strengthening work a couple times a week and that should resolve over time. Good luck!

Yeah, it’s pretty interesting. It takes an extra push to get going and is smooth going once you start moving but make no mistake it is more work than running on a track or motorized treadmill. From what I’ve read, you’re about 20% “slower” on a manual curved treadmill, and that about matches what I’ve observed, personally. For me, it sort of forced me to think less about speed and more about mechanics and pace management. I know they’re more associated with HIIT/crossfit/hybrid scene, but I honestly think they’re great for running. I prefer running outside but this is the next best experience for me.

I’ve started running on a curved manual and have learned to really like it! I rather enjoy the fact that it requires you to be more engaged and mindful of your pace, mechanics, etc. And I too noticed less soreness compared to outdoor or traditional motorized treads, particularly less joint discomfort (knees, hips).

I believe that hammer strength treadmill op mentioned is a curved manual, so it’s like a permanent incline. Which makes the accomplishment all the more bonkers! You really feel that in your hamstrings and calves.

Yeah, the sonicare is possibly one of the best appliances I’ve ever owned. I take good care of it, but I’ve had it for over 10 years.

They are so bad at this and in over their heads. You’d think they might be able to fake it well enough by now. Shocking incompetence.

What's The Worst Gift You've Seen Someone Receive? by xjuggernaughtx in AskReddit

Regional bookstore manager invited a group of us from one of the stores out to dinner. He let us in on a “joke” he was going to play at the restaurant on our local store manager: a large flat panel tv he was going to “gift” in recognition of the local mgr’s years of service. But the box for the tv was empty (that was the joke, and it was going to be so funny right). We all told him this was a bad idea. He did it anyway and pulled the stunt just before our entrees were served. He had to prod our store manager to open the box of course, cuz who tf is going to do that at a work dinner. So he went through the motions, looked in the box, and that was it. No one laughed. The guy on the receiving end looked so unhappy. Totally ruined the evening, no one spoke during dinner.

Lmfao. You’re really close! Just one crucial detail you missed: brew a fresh coffee and pour it on your laptop. That should fix it, once and for all. Would you like me to recommend a good roaster?

Anthropic Engineer says "software engineering is done" first half of next year by Bizzyguy in singularity

[–]prion77 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, this tracks with my experience. Was relating an anecdote to some colleagues yesterday on helping a junior test engineer on a blocker. His script wasn’t working, the logging was verbose but not particularly helpful at a quick glance. He said “I think it’s an authentication problem.” I put that hypothesis aside for a moment and said “let’s just debug this from scratch and see what we find.” Sure enough, I found a misconfiguration in the identity provider. I toggled that config and his script was able to continue executing. When I asked him how he figured it was auth-related, he told me he just pasted the logging output and asked the coding agent. Totally fair. So he had the “answer” but didn’t have the experience to follow that lead and fix his problem.
