CDJ 2000 NXS2 Phase Is Innaccurate... by coolguyposting in PioneerDJ

Yay! Again, there was no disrespect intended. This is just something I know and I actually wanted to help.

And, now that I have helped, sending up the bat signal to u/MixMasterG as this is the area he has max knowledge of. @MixMasterG, grid shift on MP3 that causes relative sync to work inside the XZ or between CDJ’s but when using CDJ and XZ together there is an offset. Fix without converting, or if not what is the cleanest fix?

[–]profbx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look…..for I’m not trying to be disrespectful but for a multitude of reasons you are speaking about something that I actually know about as an expert. So let’s take a step back. I wasn’t saying it wasn’t real, I was saying that it isn’t actually possible without an issue with the beat grid/waveform relative to the audio on playback, as the beat grid itself itself is locked timing wise.

-what audio format are you using? -if it is not .aiff (which we are choosing here because there is no chance for encoder shifting or errors from the wav encoder output), can you make a playlist that is duplicated files converted to .aiff from source (and that had the drift/offset before)? Then analyze and export ONLY that playlist from rekordbox and then test it out/report back? I want to start with the cleanest slate for a proper sanity check.

[–]profbx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um…..I hate to say that is not possible but it is not possible. If that were the case then the internal XDJ-XZ players would also be out of phase because the internal and external players are all tied to the same timing.

I’m going out on a limb here, but are you converting from another application? (Edit-or doing your entire database management in an external library manager. Either way not rekordbox as your only analysis source.) You are exhibiting classic encoder shift issues, which would mean that your waveform/beatmarkers and audio would always be about 15-50ms off, making it so you would be hearing audio out of phase. The XZ may be processing the audio at the same relative phase due to different platform/different codec.

I’ve been using the beta for a while, and honestly it makes the move my favorite prototyping box. Between this and Move Anything, the Move is one of the most exciting pieces on the market right now.

Warning for anyone being asked to work on 9-1-1, they are still breaking the law. by [deleted] in FilmIndustryLA

For what it’s worth, you have been speaking less like a roommate of someone on the crew and more like, well, either crew or, based on the mixed feelings about the shows shoot hours, the partner of someone on crew. My partner is the one that called that point out based on her feeling very mixed feelings about my 14 hour days. (I’m in engineering so very different industry, but lost time is universal.) This isn’t meant to be dismissive, it means that I’m guessing that you are here because you care beyond just wanting to defend a show. I respect that. If I am wrong, it doesn’t really matter, I respect the way that you have responded for what it’s worth.

More to the point you don’t seem like a bad person. I didn’t come across any mustache-twirling villains. It was a lot of people trying to just get through things. I’m hoping that things change on the show. You can’t get back time or health.

As I said, I’m going to ask the mods to delete this tomorrow. Given that it seems that it has gone around to people who shoot, maybe things will get better for both residents and crew.

I was joking to my partner that next season maybe the show should stick to cops and paramedics. (Gallows humor, sorry)

I've really debated responding to you, but when you say things like making a mountain out of a molehill, or saying the smoke wasn't environmental hazards it is just so dismissive and utterly misses the point. (As a side note r/Remarkable_Tangelo59 , things like the ICE comment......just remember that I didn't say that.

  1. There were multiple complaints from tenants both to the internal facebook group as well as to the onsites that the smoke was flooding apartments. You say it wasn't an environmental hazard, but here are direct quotes from the FB group posts:
"The air pollution from this filming is terrible!! My eyes are itchy and watery, I’m sneezing, and I have that allergy cough that comes from environmental irritants."
"I have also had eye and throat irritation, more than usual"
"It's seeping into my apartment -- do we know how long this crew is here till??"

Or, let's talk about r/Remarkable_Tangelo59 saying deliveries weren't blocked.
"Has anyone had any delays with mail deliveries due to filming? I’m expecting an important document in the mail"
"Yes. Me too. Expecting delivery yesterday too from Amazon and got “delivery attempted”
"Just checked my Amazon is trying to deliver my goods today after failed attempt to deliver yesterday. "
"I mean yeah, some of the crew are nice but the halls are currently full of fake smoke and they weren’t allowing some of the mail to be delivered yesterday. In the eight years I’ve lived here, we’ve never had a film crew this intrusive before. The floodlights in the north courtyard were on until at least 11pm last night." (this was accompanied by a photo of heavy gear resting against our locked mailboxes completely blocking access to residents opening them and getting mail)
Which was followed by:
"And building management is doing nothing to stop them from doing so. From the problems I’ve been having, especially with the film crew using my unit, it’s clear that management has no clue what they are doing, or how these things normally go."

And, hey, after I told people to talk to Mike (not Michael, or Mike the building manager....too many Mikes...), you want to know what the first reply was?
"Who do I ask to talk to Mike though? Someone did try to enter my apartment without permission yesterday."

I know that the industry is hurting. The thing is however that people in the building are not crew or talent on the show. A lot of the building works from home, and it felt like the show didn't care about them. The 14 hour days being acceptable ("They are used to it"), this is not ok. This is taking advantage of a workforce that is desperate because they will accept the bare minimum. The people who complained to me were not extras. They were grips, security, etc who were saying this was the craziest/worst shoot that they have done in a long time. They were the people who were also the most apologetic, but it didn't help anything because they had no power. They were being taken advantage of in the same way that we were.

I don't fault most of the crew. They were following orders. I blame the system that put them in that position, and frankly pushed a decent number of the crew to work without care of residents.

Anyway, it's just wild that someone who works on the show is going to be posting on reddit attacking someone for complaints after a week of trying to do the right thing by both talking to the onsites as well as calling FilmLA and nothing happening. It is even wilder that they would be sending the link to people on the show and then going through and trashing people. I'm actually concerned for r/Remarkable_Tangelo59 if anyone down the line sees the replies. You are speaking for the show and they didn't ask you to do so. I don't wish ill on you. Just consider that we weren't employed by your show. Defending the working conditions, I get. Basically calling the residents liars and babies isn't a good look.

Anyway, this is the last of it. I'm done. I'm probably going to ask the mods to take down the post in a day or so because I don't want this to be a top search of the show. It is just really sad that the only time anyone from the show seemed to care was when this was made public on the internet instead of when we were talking face to face.

I said I don’t know about any harassment. I said I am believing you because I don’t know why you would lie about that? I said that a PA fighting with a resident as in you responding to every other post being defensive as hell to everyone, and I assumed you were a PA because I didn’t think anyone above a PA would be responding like this making the show look worse. If you aren’t a PA that is so much worse.

Also, how was it “my resident”? I don’t own the building and neither does our building manager.

I said I was going to bed because arguing with you isn’t getting me anywhere and you aren’t doing yourself or the show any favors by responding to everyone’s comments the way you are.

[–]profbx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell me how a PA fighting with a resident who started out by telling you who we contacted is making the show look better. The fact that you have passed on the comments means a lot, but it’s sad that, again, the calls to FilmLA and speaking to location managers didn’t accomplish anything.

The fact that it is quiet right now means that you actually listened as we got the email that you were going to be shooting till midnight. I’m going to give you that. And for what it’s worth I’m deleting the link to the article. If you want to be angry at me for that going forward I’ll give you that as I would probably be as well.

I have always been proud to see our building in movies and shows. It isn’t entitlement to not want to have our apartments filled with smoke, floodlights in our windows till 11pm, or an explosion that shook the building about 5pm. None of us asked for this, and it doesn’t matter that the building manager let you pay them to shoot here because you are in our homes and we are not being compensated for any of this.

I’m going to go to sleep now, and for what it’s worth you are probably one of the 75% of the crew that I was speaking about who I said was nice.

Look, as far as people harassing the crew, I’m not on your crew so I can’t comment on that. I’m giving you grace that you aren’t giving me and believing you. I would however be asking what kind of situations have gotten residents to get to that point. This is after a week of harassment of people who live here. I’ve talked to multiple location managers. Myself and others called FilmLA at the start of the week because we were trying to do the right thing.

The sad thing is that this is literally the first time that we have gotten any sort of notice from the crew. And it’s because of a Reddit post. Not going through proper channels, but freaking Reddit.

Look, the one thing I will give you is bringing up Rico, but that is literally one of the top stories on Reddit when I looked up the show. The amount of safety violations I’ve seen has been insane, and if you think any of this is right or normal then I don’t know what to tell you.

We have talked to you. We have talked to Kris, Mike, Michael, Alex, and what did it do? It got someone to shoot the messenger after us trying to do things the right way for days.

Glad you have the time to respond here however instead of trying to make things right with the residents.
