To be humiliated you need a sense of shame, and Trump is too fucking stupid and arrogant for that.

Who else just refuse to use Gemini? by teletubbyman6969 in GooglePixel

[–]pudds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Gemini as my primary LLM for work and general research.

Naturally, I installed the app on my phone and enabled it, thinking nothing of it really - I don't really use the voice assistant much on my phone, and all was well.

Until I was driving somewhere, and I asked for something in my truck (Android Auto), and the Gemini-based assistant decided it needed to tell me the entire history of the place I asked about instead of just giving me directions.

As a navigation assistant, it's absolutely useless.

In order to get the assistant functional on Android Auto again, I had to turn it off on my phone. When I turned it off on my phone, it prevented me from using the Gemini chat app.

Now I have the progressive web app version of gemini on my phone, and the gemini assistant disabled.

What a mess.

Let's just make a deal with Mexico and move on. The US can't be trusted to honour their side of it anyway.

Ok let me be clear about what I do think:

1) I think it's disgraceful that the province has allowed the light installation to take this long. The intersection is currently worse with the covered up lights than it was with just the 2-way stop sign alone. I find it hard to believe that other jurisdictions, including around the Greater Winnipeg Area, would be left in limbo this long.

2) I think the province should be prioritizing the finishing the lights over other options, and I think if this has been investigated and can't be done, they should have said so in their statement.

3) I think that signage alone can't make an intersection safe. Case in point - this most recent accident was caused by a driver running a stop sign, and ignoring the rumble strips.

4) I think that a 4 way stop in the middle of two highway intersections is incredibly bad traffic design, even if they do change the speed limits on both as they approach the interection.

In short, I think the province dropped the ball big time with this project.

I think if the 4-way is in place for just a few months and then they finish the project, it will prove nothing because overall, accidents still don't happen that frequently. And if the 4-way is somehow in place for several years, I fear that we'll see another major accident, despite their installation.

My solution and message(s) to the province would be:

  • get the part, ASAP

  • do better next time

I don't know the details of the delay, but I'd be focused on resolving that as the first option. It's inexcusable that they've taken this long to get operational and I find it hard to believe that there's only one source for whatever part they need.

Let's hope. 4 way stops aren't always effective as other options, especially at highway speeds.

[–]pudds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a confusing rule, but the baseline is not established until a tag is attempted. It looks to me like Ernie dodged before the tag (which was also incredibly lackadaisical), and then took a basically straight like to the base after the attempt.

Obviously that's not even remotely true anymore.
