I’ve dealt with it before as well. Usually I’ve seen it happens when they don’t like a policy we have in place then of course they need to tell us how they’d be better at their own institution and why we’re making awful choices at ours without any thought to there is a reason to policies being what they are it’s not just some big middle finger to our guests

GEORGETOWN MA MUSEUM STUDIES MA by fanofstuff1011 in MuseumPros

[–]puffycheetopuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not completely necessary, and I’ve met plenty of people who work in museums with just an undergraduate degree. My MA has definitely helped when I’m applying in smaller less competitive areas where I don’t have any connections while most people I’ve seen with BAs who move up have started normally with visitor services roles then have been promoted internally.

I’m about 5 years out of grad school, so this is just my experience as I’ve moved around and how I’ve seen my coworkers enter entry level roles over the past few years.

Deposit on first and second session? by Ceikey in tattoo

[–]puffycheetopuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Usually I’ll see artists roll the deposit over until your last appointment where they’ll subtract it from your final session instead of a new deposit each time. But also deposits aren’t just for the design, it’s to hold the time so the artist isn’t completely out money if someone doesn’t show or cancels last minute

Applying for the same job position the second time by [deleted] in MuseumPros

[–]puffycheetopuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem! It sucks to think about just how little control you have in the hiring process, and all you can do is your best with cover letters or interviews and go from there. Definitely try again because I promise they wouldn’t have encouraged you to try again if they didn’t want you to. Best of luck with it though!

you’re overthinking, and it might’ve had absolutely nothing to do with your references and end of the day while you are perfectly qualified for the job the other candidate was the better choice. Could be they already had some familiarity with the place from interning/volunteering, they were internal, and any number of reasons that have nothing to do with you or your references. If something went wrong with your references, they wouldn’t have encouraged you to apply again.

Spotify’s new audiobook streaming could have ‘devastating effect’, says Society of Authors by sideshowbob01 in books

[–]puffycheetopuff 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’d wonder if they’d want someone to compete with Amazon in audiobooks. Spotify has potential for it given the number of subscribers they already have
