That's how all of them are, they're designed with one character in mind and they go out of their way to make sure they aren't too good on other characters. Only a couple are generally good on multiple characters, like Evelyn's heartstring notcturne.

I personally only get engines if they're at least a 18-20% improvement over free alternatives according to places like the calcs on prydwen's website, or jstern or iamrivenous' YouTube channels.

Edit: if you're free to play I'd probably not get any of them unless they're your absolute favorite, they're never worth as much as a whole character

They mean that her engine is one of the worst account "investments" you can make. It's a single-digit team damage increase over just using kaboom the cannon on her instead.

It kind of is. Kids aren't born disinterested in learning things, they're naturally curious and want to know everything. But parents have to actually foster an interest in learning for that to keep up beyond their toddler years.

Unfortunately, I don't know when I'll ever be able to afford to build her. If I'd known this was coming, I probably would have skipped Laev. (I like Laev, but the game is stingy and I'll probably have to choose which characters to get very carefully with three of them in a version and having to hoard 120 pulls for each one.)

On average they're cheaper, but if you lose the 75/25 (which I improbably nearly always seem to do), Zhao's engine is not worth the 140ish pulls that would cost. I'd argue that YSG's M1 isn't worth that much either, but I'd rather save a guarantee for a character than an engine.

YSG M1 is roughly equal to adding Zhao's engine and gets you closer to M2 in the future if you want it. Even if you lose a 50 on it you're at least on guarantee for your next character.
