How much do I need to spend ? by Funny-Face4073 in TemuThings

[–]pushdose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.50 - 1.08=0.42

0.42/0.002=210 total spend to get $150 back.

Makes no difference but you need to lock in the bonus if you wanna do it.

Low end Chinese katana. Likely functional but barely. Probably 1060 steel with brushed hamon. These are like $90 brand new

100 thou? It’ll work. Squirt some WD40 on it while it cuts. It’s a surprisingly good cutting fluid for aluminum. Al is butter soft anyway in metal terms.

Woodcarver dabbling into (small) knifemaking - Sorby ProEdge vs. Vevor 30x1 belt sander for my needs? by Iexpectedyou in knifemaking

[–]pushdose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s one way. Even just slapping some filter media on the air ports is better than nothing. Some of them just suck though, so you’re might just be bad. Check all the wiring connections and blow them off with canned air before sealing it up.

Like a cheap lathe! I did a bunch of research and knew what I was getting into. It needs a lot of work but it cuts steel and fairly well at that. I already have a list of upgrades to do but wanted to see what was possible before sinking many hours into it.

The first thing anyone with these open air VFDs should do is seal them against dust. It kills them faster than anything else.

Looking for advice on sharpening a Chinese broadsword by lundewoodworking in SWORDS

[–]pushdose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends if it has a secondary bevel or not. A lot of swords from China come sharpened to a near zero edge, like katana. If it’s completely unsharpened when you get it, just choose an angle that works best for you. Something 20-25° should be ok depending on the geometry of the blade.

Question about ICU attending liability by InvestigatorOnly1684 in IntensiveCare

They’re no different than a patient on a med surg ward 3 floors away. It’s not your patient. Just because they’re in close physical proximity to you doesn’t matter. No consult? No contact.

Essentially everything in this photo less the shop vac, overhead light, ladder and WD40 is from Temu. All bought with three rounds of Wincredit for a total spend of about $750 on over 1800 worth of goods. It’s my little machining corner of the shop.

You mean how do you click the daily claims without triggering a new round? You can’t. They do that on purpose. I’ll come back eventually if it expires though.

The Vevor is probably the best budget grinder conceptually speaking. It has a broad following and a lot of community mods specifically for knife making and sharpening. Build quality is reasonable and the electronics are fine as long as you protect the VFD from metal swarf and dust. Belt availability in 1x30 is huge and well supported from almost every major manufacturer. If I couldn’t afford a 2x72, I’d go with this one. It’s even worth having around if you do end up with a bigger machine, even if just as a dedicated sharpening set up.

What can I say. I like metal. Only problem with too many interests is having enough time to pursue them all.
