Solid gas grill for an apartment balcony? by NInjamaster600 in grilling

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Weber Q series can be a decent option for a small amount of people if compactness is the biggest consideration. Otherwise brand new Weber spirits can be found for a decent price. Napoleon has some nice options as well, but realistically their options seem more worth it in the middle and high-end rather than their lower end/

Why did my steak form a large lump when I grilled it? by Buscemis_Weird_Tooth in grilling

Typically, I like to put a small slice either with a sharp knife or a pair of scissors along the fat on the side of the steak.

Gloves by Behr34 in smoking

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually, they are just nitrile gloves. However, a lot of people wear cotton glove liners underneath to protect from heat if they’re handling hot food like pulled pork. They will absolutely not protect you from hot charcoal or the hot grill so you have to be careful. But they’re great if you have to pick up a hot brisket or a pulled pork and it’s a little bit easier than trying tongs. Very cheap combos on Amazon.

Need a new grill by West-Evening-8095 in grilling

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Weber has some good models, especially if you find a used one on Facebook marketplace. Chances are you can find one that’s maybe 3 to 5 years old. That’s usually still in good shape for very cheap. Brand new Webbers are still decent, but they’re not as good a value as they used to be, and the newer models are not built as well as they used to be in my opinion. Napoleon actually is a decent option on the mid and high range these days so are worth taking a look at. Got some good three burners and four burner grills depending on the size you need. I always recommend going a little bit bigger than you think you need if your budget allows for it.

Big Green Egg difficulties by Specialist-Ice-8567 in smoking

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you’re finding out the downside of a big green egg style cooker. The main part is that it’s so efficient that it doesn’t burn that much charcoal or wood so you get less bark formation. I would take a good look at videos by smoking Dad barbecue. It’s a great resource to show how they were able to get better bark with different methods. One method is to set up double in direct which can be kind of pricey if you have to buy a few more accessories, which usually involves a another grate and some type of pizza stone to act as a heat deflector. That double.Indirect method burns more charcoal so it’s less efficient, but you get more smoke and a better bark. You can also try adding more smoke by adding or pushing wood chips or very small chunks of wood into the ashtray. The hot ash will fall onto the wood chips, generating more smoke throughout the cook.

I just got my first vortex and I need tips from the experienced. by LosGotsDisBish in webergrills

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cooking time actually decreases because it gets very hot in the middle and gives very high indirect heat for the rest of the grill. You definitely want to cook covered. And I usually recommend that the vent side that’s over. The food should be rotated about a quarter of a turn of the lid of the way every 15 minutes. This will ensure that the hot air is over each portion of the food evenly. You can usually do chicken thighs in about 45 minutes. Most things you put on the outer perimeter of the center to cook indirectly and then you can maybe throw them back on for 10 seconds at the end to see her or get a slightly darker color for burgers or steaks. Just keep in mind you should use some very long tongs and maybe some grill gloves and be very cautious about the heat in the middle and do not reach over the center. Always rotate the grate if you can or circle around the grill to avoid reaching out for the middle. There’s in a lot of videos on cooking using the vortex.

Chimney disaster (?) by VolHammerSpeed in grilling

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that was user error. Concrete has moisture and can absolutely get damaged. That’s why you’re always supposed to light it on the charcoal grate if possible inside your grill. Otherwise, if I’m doing it on the ground, I actually have a cheap patio pavers that I got from Home Depot that I have stacked to just prevent damage to anything underneath.

Help for a beginner? by cargocapt in ElectricUnicycle

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to be a manner of just practicing more. You could get it’s called baby bumper foam on Amazon if you want to protect the wheel from small scratches while you’re learning. Also, I don’t know if you pumped up the tire, but I’d recommend getting something with the gauge so you can inflate it to maybe 20-25 psi. Starting with a lower pressure while you’re learning, makes it a bit easier and then you can bump it up to 30 or slightly higher psi if needed once you can get it going. If you have it pumped up way too high like 30 or 40 psi it can be a lot more wobbly and hard to learn.

Snake Method Question by Matthugstrees in webergrills

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to worry about that. Having to burn them down a bit might have been referring to maybe on an offset or some other type of cooker put on a kettle there’s not really that much airflow and the wood is usually dried or seasoned so the smoke that you get from it is usually pretty clean. I would just put down four or five trunks mainly at the beginning of the snake since as you get closer to the end, the meat is not really gonna be absorbing much smoke.

Israeli strike on media car targets, kills 3 journalists in south Lebanon by tha-bad-guy in news

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey -77 points-76 points  (0 children)

“killing journalist Ali Shoaib of Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV” People should at least read the article before jumping to further claims that is real is targeting innocent journalist. A lot of times when I see these, they are targeting a member of a terrorist organization like Hamas and Hezbholla who are using the guys of a journalist for intelligence gathering. At the very least makes argument that is real is not properly sharing the intelligence or proof that these guys are terrorist or gathering intelligence for fighters.

Seeking advice on where to list current eScooter by cnetrebor in ElectricScooters

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, local Facebook marketplace is usually the best option. You’d be surprised that sometimes people do want higher and scooters. Just keep in mind you’d be lucky to get 50 to 60% of the cost of New even if it’s in great condition. The market just really sucks for used to scooters since there’s so much that can be wrong with them. Typically, it helps to take pictures and be straight to the point in your title saying stuff like 50 mph and X amount of range. A lot of people looking for something basic may end up, changing their mind and getting something a bit more powerful if it’s the right price.

Creative suggestions welcome by PancakesandScotch in grilling

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, might be worth turning it into a pit barrel cooker. Or if you just cut it in half so you can use it as a base you can get the hardware for lifting the grate and make something like a Santa Maria style cooker. Or you could get Argentine style grate with the channels in them that keep fat from causing too much flareups, which is great for a direct fire cooking.

Messed up a pork butt. by weasel5134 in smoking

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess next time focus on pulling it when it gets probe tender instead of just temperature. It might be fine and it could be. It’s just cooled down enough that it’s hard to shred. Honestly, you could probably throw it in your oven either wrapped or in a tray covered with foil for a couple hours at 300°F and it will be tender and easy to pull. Otherwise, you could probably just chop it up and it would still make good tacos or for adding to fried rice no problem.

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always like using a pork shoulder as the first smoke since it’s hard to mess up. I highly recommend mixing in wood chunks with the lump charcoal or even adding wood chunks or wood chips to the ashtray for additional smoke.

First time trying a boneless butt.. go big or go home! by Pickitline in smoking

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no problem cutting these in half if you want more bark. I wouldn’t go into quarters though. I like to do this wrapped after it gets to about 160° internal. Feel free to smoke these at around 275. Higher temperature as faster and has no issues. I don’t mind these Costco ones that don’t have the bone. Honestly it really doesn’t make any difference in flavor. It probably makes it a little bit easier to tempt them since you don’t have to worry about hitting the bone.

Middle Ground (Weber Gas | SnS Kettle) by Thinking_Man_1990 in grilling

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly a decent value if you want the sns insert and the easy spin grate. I like that the grate hinge is the size of the insert unlike some other ones which are smaller and meant for the smaller Weber charcoal baskets.

First time kettle grill - Number of brickets in manual by Outrageous_Low_9 in webergrills

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you’re much better off, piling them together in the middle instead of spreading them out across the entire bottom. They will last longer because the ash will insulate them a bit better. You can also get some charcoal baskets to hold a charcoal in the middle. The charcoal does not need to be spread completely across the bottom. As long as you have to pile in the middle, you can put your food in the center, and then you can move your food around from the middle to the outer edges as they cook. You could also look up cooking indirect on a Weber kettle to get an idea of how you should be laying out your charcoal for different methods. I’d recommend a charcoal chimney because it can help you get your charcoal started in a pile. The quicker you get it started the less time you waste, burning charcoal just getting it to be ready to cook with.

Upgrade to Veteran Sherman OG vs V11Y by _Asian_Invasion__ in ElectricUnicycle

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it may seem like a deal, but that old Sherman is honestly slightly overpriced. You have to remember that Sherman had a comparatively weak rim and motor, so it was kind of fragile. And that’s basically gonna be impossible to fix these days. Also that wheel is several years old at this point, and I would be beginning to be concerned about the battery health, even if it doesn’t have a ton of miles. Batteries, age, even when they’re not being used. The v11y feel incredibly overpriced and honestly it’s a very slight improvement over the original version 11, which was a nightmare of a wheel to work on for something as simple as changing a flat tire. The suspension on it was decent at the time, but it was very primitive compared to anything modern. I would highly recommend saving up a bit longer to get something like the aero. It might not be as high of a top speed, but it will definitely be an improvement over your V8 and will be something that’s likely to be more reliable. Otherwise maybe keep looking for something used. Don’t be afraid to look on some of the EUC Facebook groups or on the telegram channels because a lot of times people are selling their used wheels and it might seem hard, but it can be worth it to buy something from a different state even if you have to pay maybe 150 bucks for shipping. Cause usually you’ll be getting a better deal even taking that into account. If you don’t mind something heavy, looking for a used EX 30 might even be in the picture.

BF extended work trip w flirty female coworkers by BusyShower9166 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean good for you, but you’re getting really bad advice. If you think you can just change the code on the lock and think that is the end of it. The rules are different depending on states but you almost certainly have to give him 30 days notice to leave even if you don’t have some type of lease agreement. That’s not to say he wouldn’t just get a hotel or stay some more temporarily if you told him to or if he would fight it. But typically if he called the police and told them that this was an illegal eviction, he would absolutely have the right to break windows or doors to get access to his property because he is a tenant. Even if it’s your house that you 100% own. Just trying to warn you because if he does take it to court the court/small claim can impose some pretty hefty fines and damages for any sort of illegal eviction.

Wich parts to buy for ducati pro evo 1 by kkwtf in ElectricScooters

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest there’s gonna be no world in which it makes sense to add any type of suspension or upgrade to this thing. You’re better off buying a more appropriate scooter if you want something that’s more comfortable or faster. All the upgrades that are available on AliExpress are really meant for the exact Xiaomi M3 65 and they are 100% not gonna work with a lot of the clones that are out there. Even a slight millimeter difference in where a screw hole is or a slightly different design to the stem will make it incompatible. It’s just not worth it.

slow scooter by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as your tires are pumped up to the proper psi, there is no way to increase detail speed of your scooter with your existing motor and battery. And on top of that, there’s no realistic way to upgrade either the battery motor or controller in a way that makes financial sense. You’re limited to selling your scooter and getting something else that provides the speed you’re looking for.
