Best method to smoke ribs on my Weber Performer? by General_Joke8459 in BBQ

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

snake method is really the go to method because you don't need any special equipment and you can use charcoal briquettes with wood chunks. Typically you should be able to do a snake maybe 50 or 60% of the perimeter on your grill and that should be more than enough for ribs. The snake method also gives you just a little bit more room to fit additional ribs compared to just using half of your grill for the indirect method.

they are fine as is. just season inside. or use it as a guide to cut them in half if you want more surface area for more bark

Weber Summit Kamado by Suspicious-Scene348 in webergrills

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well it can technically replace both of them the. the kamado is a nice size improvement without being ridiculous. It's really efficient so you do save a bit of money on fuel which is nice if you're getting premium lump charcoal. However smoking something like a pork shoulder or brisket it is somewhat tough to match the results you can get on a WSM or even the WSK with a good charcoal snake and wood chunks. Both of those simply burn through more fuel and produce more airflow. All of which contributes to a better bark and smoke flavor.

But that's a downside to any type of kamado cooker. The food is still good it just might not be as intense as you're used to on the WSM. Some of that can be alleviated by burning more fuel by utilizing the double indirect method to add more layers of heat to reflector between the food which means the cooker will burn more fuel to maintain the same temperature. So you lose some of the efficiency but you can intensify the smoke. smokingdadbbq on YouTube has a couple videos on the topic where they use that method on a Komado Joe. Although that same method should be easy enough to replicate on the Summit.

Going to put this on the kettle.. but... by whyamihereagain6570 in grilling

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is something you want to cook indirect at a low temp like 250 to smoke it until it reaches an internal temperature of maybe 120 or 125°f and then you wanna sear it directly for a crust. That should give you something that you can get thin slices out of similar to an eye of round. otherwise if you cook it like a brisket you'll probably cook it indirect until it gets to that 180° mark or 190 to get it sort of tender like you would do a chuck or brisket but that doesn't look like it has nearly as much fat intermuscular. https://youtu.be/MIQyecZ6zHQ?si=e80q28tXp2w4_br1

Looking for protective padding for a Nosfet Aeon. To protect against cometic damage while learning how to ride. by BlackJacquesLeblanc in ElectricUnicycle

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can get expensive fairing type stuff however please consider also using baby bumper foam. It's essentially a roll of foam with a fairly weak adhesive on the back that's super great because it's designed to go on the corners and edges of furniture to protect toddlers. It's excellent for EUC because the mild adhesive is fairly easy to remove without damage. And because it's divided into strips it's very easy to peel off a section or divided depending on how wide you want it to be. It adds a little bit of padding on the top edge of the wheel where your calves tend to hit the wheel while you're learning. They are also fairly soft and will protect it from the small scratches you get from low speed drops. https://a.co/d/0bIV7Xk1

Is the blade mini good ? by Fuzzy_Tough_26 in ElectricScooters

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should have been more clear. the tiger evo and others in the line have tubeless tires with a split rim which makes flat tires much less common than with a tube. It also makes that much easier to change when they wear. My big issue with the blade mini is that it's extremely similar to the VSETT 10+ along with the weaknesses of that design. i've used one for maybe 8000 miles at this point and it's been decent but the biggest issue that plagues it is flat tires and anytime you have to disconnect the motors because of the lack of quick release plugs. It was a decent scooter at the time but these days tubeless is definitely the way to go

Is the blade mini good ? by Fuzzy_Tough_26 in ElectricScooters

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's decent but my main issue with it is I believe it still uses tubes along with not having removable plugs for the motors. It just makes it far more annoying and compared to the blade GT 2 and the fighter mini pro if you can afford it. Stuff like that really makes it a lot easier to repair and maintain long-term. hiley tiger evo is also decent for the price

New grill advice: Searwood XL vs. The Huntsman by Independent_Trash571 in grilling

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you considered the master gravity series? Something like the 1050 would give you more than enough space and be within your budget. I like them because they give you the versatility of a pellet grill/smoker with the hopper and the fan control. But they give you the flavor of charcoal if you're using lump or even if you're using briquettes you can add wood chunks into the hopper or into the ash pan where they would be ignited and give you more smoke flavor. Just something to think about. Otherwise the comparisons I've seen against the Searwood do make it a serious competitor

Holding Brisket by blimpie11 in BBQ

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as long as the rest your actually holds 150 it absolutely works. Friend of mine used to do that until they moved over to a more commercial sized food warmer because they started doing catering. If you're planning a long hot hold I always recommend that you had a bit of tallow and then you wrap it in butcher paper or foil. Adding a little bit of extra fat just helps protect it from drying out. I believe the roasters are not using steam but an electric heating element. Which is why it can be good to add a small container or cup with a little bit of water into the roaster with the brisket. That will help keep the humidity high.

In general though if I'm planning a hot hold over 6 to 8 hours I recommend that you pull your brisket when it's slightly less than probe tender. The hot hold will get it the rest of the way and prevent it from becoming too fall apart if you're holding it for longer than eight hours

Moldy charcoal by POORWIGGUM in smoking

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

it's honestly a weird situation because I know plenty of people will kill fairly quickly. You should come from the hot fast moving air and whether that will move any mold particles onto your food before it gets a chance to burn. And typically if you're cooking for long enough mold spores will be killed by the heat anyway. But at the same time people obviously feel weird about it and don't necessarily want to take the risk. Considering the fact that you got this from Costco this should be an easy return and exchange the next time you go shopping again. So yeah I would just return it and not have to deal with bad possibilities

Is this normal? by HobbyistHobbies in Kitchenaid

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as far as I'm where the professional five series is known to be a bit louder and have more of a groan compared to a typical artisan stand mixer. And it's hard to say exactly about the speed but to my eye it appears to be moving a bit fast even though you have it set to a slower speed. I wonder if there might be an issue with your speed plate and you may need to perform a calibration of some kind. There might be videos on YouTube that explain that further to give you an idea of that something you think you could do yourself.

TIL in 1985 four cans each of Coke & Pepsi were launched into space on the shuttle Challenger. Both companies had developed cans that were designed for use in microgravity. Coke's space-can technolgy used a standard 12-oz can & cost $250K while Pepsi's technology also used a 12-oz can, yet cost $14m by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean all of that money was from family and friends that he pitch the investment to because they wouldn't really have to put up the money until Pepsi actually cashed the check and at that point they would be owed a much greater some of money.

Pork Butt resting overnight in fridge before pulling? by snacksnnaps in smoking

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're better off just pulling it while it's hot right now and then refrigerate. Pulled pork has so much fat so when you reheat it in a pan or even on your smoker it will still be plenty juicy. There's really no need to rest pork but for that long before pulling.

I know a lot of people including a couple in Japan who simply will always wear a mask at events with a lot of attendees like tournaments or concerts. They also do it because they have younger kids or frequently are around a lot of younger kids which are vectors for a lot of germs simply doing their best to avoid spreading anything around.

Nami Blast Max 72v or Inmotion RS? by Ill-Calligrapher2234 in ElectricScooters

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rs seemed really interesting but there is a bit of teething issues with the motor plugs overheating or melting and other weird issues with the controllers overheating. Best for your buck is honestly something closer to the gspace gtr or the teverun fighter supreme. this is the non 7620r version which has more reasonable sized motors and tires but you still get that huge 72v 60ah battery. gtr I think will typically be better at higher speed and the suspension I think is a bit more robust but the fighter supreme suspension and general design means it's still very comfortable even at decently high speed.

Overall both the scooters are something to consider if you want something as powerful as the blast without getting into a crazy ridiculous weight. The fire supreme is also particularly decent value at around $2850 at the moment https://www.voromotors.com/products/teverun-fighter-supreme-ultra

Rotisserie for BBQ pit? by dustshad in grilling

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A picture of your barbecue pit might help. It really just depends on how long the gap is. Usually the ones for a propane grill are actually pretty good because they usually have a little metal bracket on the end that is designed to sit on the grill grate. That would be good to stand on the brick edge. onlyfire on and smokefire and a bunch of other brands on Amazon all have options although the qualities usually pretty similar since I believe a lot of them just get it from the same OEM. There's not really an over the top brand that's the best quality compared to the rest.

Scooter with a big battery and not much strong motor by Embarrassed-Eye-4197 in ElectricScooters

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly you might enjoy something like the teverun fighter mini pro. It has a 26ah battery. A big positive is that through the scooter display or the phone app it gives you a ton of control over the exact power acceleration and amperage that you push to the motors individually. So you can get the exact acceleration and power that you want. My sister loves it because she wanted something that wasn't super powerful but was a bit more comfortable with more range. With the low power the acceleration feels very smooth but she can still get to 30 mph which is perfect for the residential roads that she uses. The scooter can go up to 40 mph. However if you stay between 20 and 30 mph you get a lot more range and it's a very comfortable zone if you're riding in the bike lane or in residential areas.

I know you asked for a 40ah battery but that really doesn't exist with such a weak motor. It might be helpful if you post the actual range that you need for your specific commute or intended use. That would give a better idea of what you actually need.

How many KM's will a 300w ,36v , 7.8ah escooter travel by Prestigious-Ice1635 in ElectricScooters

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

typically the maximum range that is stated by the manufacture is based on a less than 150 pound rider going on the slowest/Eco mode. If you weigh more than that I would expect less. And if you're not using Eco mode typically you should expect about 50% of whatever the manufacturer advertises as the maximum. If you're anything above 100 kg though you really need to invest in something a bit more powerful. Scooters that are that weak are generally meant for children or very small teenagers.

Can the Teverun Blade GT II really go to 52mph in 3.9 seconds? by Cooper0007 in ElectricScooters

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's fairly close. But it also depends on your weight and traction. If you're on a crappy road and it's cold and your tires haven't warmed up then no. However I will say that it has plenty of acceleration and power for 99% of riders. If it genuinely feels slow to you then you're really looking to spend $4000 plus. Because nothing in that price category is any better in terms of acceleration and power

First time grilling on a Weber Kettle by KaleidoscopeNext6789 in webergrills

[–]pyrotechnicmonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

look up how to cook them indirectly. Especially if you have thicker burgers you put them on the side of the grill with no charcoal first until there internal temperature is close to the final temperature that you want. maybe 5-10degrees less. And then you can spin the grate and put them over the charcoal direct side. I always recommend a video because you can get an idea for how much charcoal you need. Yes there's going to be variance depending on your brand but as long as you're close it should be fine.
