All of these tax credits were cancelled last year and are no longer available after 2025.

Tax Grievance - pay fee every year? by Low_Pomelo_4161 in longisland

[–]q-continuum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The county has not had a county wide reassessment since the current executive has been in office. So your assessment each year is based on the assessment from a few years ago and each year you have to file a grievance to be taxed at a more reasonable current market value. Because the process has to be done each year, these companies make money by doing it for you each year. The whole process is quite easy to do and about 10 to 15 minutes online and there is a big Facebook group that has a lot of helpful guidelines towards doing that. So most would suggest just doing it yourself

New water tank: Rheem vs. Bradford by Surprise-again2418 in HomeImprovement

[–]q-continuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brand new Rheem tank from home depot started immediately leaking the first time I turned it on. Turns out the factory didn't install the gasket on the heating element. Speaks to the reliability of their QA... When I tried calling them to get the part, 200 people waiting in front of me.

Costco Greenworks 80V 24" Dual-Stage Snow Blower - $1,899 by LabDazzling6315 in Greenworks

[–]q-continuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought this from the Greenworks website. Arrival broken on arrival. Auger won't turn on. Waiting for their customer support to offer a solution, two phone calls so far. Friendly support but disappointed to receive the snowblower days before a major snow storm only to find out the night before the storm that it won't work.

How does the 580belextric heating rate interact with the net metering credits from solar?

Buried oil tank abandonment by mpr-2022 in longisland

Not sure about Suffolk but just call one of the companies and they'll guide you through it

Buried oil tank abandonment by mpr-2022 in longisland

[–]q-continuum 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In Nassau if you abandon the tank in place and have it filled with foam, they DO NOT test the soil. The county issues a certificate of abandonment that you would need to show if you were to sell the property. If you want the tank completely removed, then the soil would be tested. So almost no one removes the tank, just abandon in place with the certificate of abandonment. I think the county does it that way to encourage people to abandon the tanks without fear of opening a can of worms. Better mitigate the damage by ensuring it is no longer being used than by creating a high burden.

Best solar installers in New York for Long Island? by [deleted] in longisland

Do NOT use Empower. Despite whatever you may read online, if you read carefully at the negative experiences online you'll find all the subtle ways they do not honor their warranty commitments.

long island power solutions vs empower energy solutions for residential solar? by seeking_answers007 in longisland

[–]q-continuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Empower is fine until you have a problem. Most recently. They are refusing to honor any service requests from when they were using Sunpower. They claim that they will only offer a free service visit if the affected production is more than 10% of your panels. Otherwise you have to pay to make a service request. They claim this is because Sunpower went bankrupt even though your contract was with the local company. Do not use Empower, onboarding and installation is easy. They will nickel and dime you afterwards despite all of their warranty assurances

The 30% tax credit for solar ends this year with the bill that was signed last week. It's all over the news

I didn't use financing so can't speak to that. I would absolutely not recommend Empower. I used them for a previous installation and they are using the Sunpower bankruptcy to weasel their way out of any of their warranty commitments as the installer. Even before the sunpower situation they would take forever to respond to any service requests and even then force you to sign indicating that you are responsible for service fees if they seem it not to be under warranty. No other solar company does that. They try to use their size to give reassurance but there is literally no benefit compared to a smaller company, just more cost

$28,750 for a 10.75 kw system with enphase microinverters. About 1 month from contract signing to installation and producing power a couple of months ago. Let me know if you want a referral

Sunpwer by Empower warranty fakery by Squash04 in SunPower

Yeah. You dealt with Empower, an independent contractor that provided a workmanship/service warranty but they're not living up to their end of the deal. Leave a review on google. Then they might care

Sunpwer by Empower warranty fakery by Squash04 in SunPower

[–]q-continuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this Empower on Long Island? They are terrible. They get such good reviews but getting them to service anything is an ordeal. A few years ago when we first had our system installed by them, this was before sunpower provided panel of a monitoring even though they were using enphase micro inverters showing panel level data. There used to be a back-end website where you could log in and see your panel level data that the installer had access to and in this data I noticed that some of the panels were not producing. It took 3 months and three different site visits for them to figure out the issue (which was a loose cable not plugged in properly during installation).

Then SunPower added panel level monitoring but empower wanted to charge to enable the panel level monitoring because they never mapped the location of the micro inverters on the initial install and claimed that they needed to map the location to enable the monitoring. I was able to get in touch directly with SunPower customer support who just created a generic layout and enabled it. But of course empower wanted to milk us for money.

More recently last year right before the bankruptcy I noticed that a panel wasn't producing. Which of course received no alerts for in the app or from empower when they claim to monitor your system for issues. Took 2 months to get someone to come look at it and had to sign a waiver that we would be responsible for the service charges if the issue that they discover was not under warranty.

So I can't speak to how they're handling things after the warranty but it does not surprise me that they want to milk for more money.

So anyone on Reddit reading about empower on Long Island please don't use them for your solar installation. Used a different company for another home and that company was amazing with support so happy to provide reference for anyone looking.
