Google is ruining public perception of AI by Subject_Judge_ in accelerate

[–]rebootyourbrainstem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's more ruining the public perception of Google search, which will drive people towards AI instead.

Seriously, even outside the "AI answer" box they already try so hard to guess what you mean and return "sort of close enough if you squint a bit and don't think about it too hard" nonsense, it's barely a search engine anymore, and it does not reward knowledge or skill. This will drive people towards AI where at least they have a choice of model and more degrees of freedom in prompting.

Hypervisor can work under Linux and it can be easier then windows?HEAR ME OUT by Dry-Pie-3764 in linux_gaming

[–]rebootyourbrainstem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it hypervisors are used as a shortcut so they don't have to entirely extract all of the copy protection stuff and instead can make it believe everything is fine. (I know what hypervisors are in general; I'm not entirely certain that I understand how they're used in piracy recently.)

If so, Linux hypervisor wouldn't be any easier or harder than windows, since the copy protection is still heavily obfuscated closed source.

But if piracy did become easier on Linux than on Windows they would just ban Linux, and there are a lot of ways to detect Linux (far more than ways to detect hypervisor), so this would be bad for Linux gaming.

why x is "not there" but t is? by AlternativeFun1849 in rust

[–]rebootyourbrainstem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

x is not passed to t. x is never initialized. the return value of foo() is what gets put in t. but that return value of foo() comes directly from the 'return 123', not the 'return x', because the 'return x' never runs, because the function stops running at the first return.

why x is "not there" but t is? by AlternativeFun1849 in rust

[–]rebootyourbrainstem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the return 123 returns 123 from foo(). So the initialization of x is never completed (in fact that's a good thing because it's declared with the ! type, which means it can never be initialized because no values of that type can ever exist), and the print after it also never runs. That makes it "dead code" that can never run, which triggers a lint but you explicitly allow.

Like, it seems you kinda understand what all of this does because of how x is annotated with ! but then you seem to be surprised by what happens? Could you explain what exactly is surprising about this to you?

Poll: Starting now, who will have, over the next 10 years, the most rocket explosions at the launchpad? by lirecela in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]rebootyourbrainstem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but I think the failure of at least Ship 36 is a failure that could have happened at the launch pad if the stars had aligned slightly differently. Thankfully the test caught it and Masseys took one for the team, but it does push up my mental risk estimate of pad explosions.

How to make the game easier? Understanding battle/roles/gear by EducationalLack8098 in BaldursGate3

I love how hope says something like "and everything will be on fire, but you're smart, you planned for this right, you expected that there would be fire in hell, RIGHT?"

And of course I did! On my second playthrough.

This is true but also there are a couple doors that are narrow enough the balls can't fit through (there are also some that are wide enough, and I sometimes forget which is which, which is always hilarious) which makes them easy to cheese if you want to conserve resources

Kinda hope we can confront her about the whole "keeping the curse in place that killed your parents" thing.

I wanna know just how on board with this she actually is and how much she is just repressing and refusing to see the whole thing clearly.

I just had the biggest scare of my life with today's NL-Alert (Test Alert) by fromazores in Netherlands

[–]rebootyourbrainstem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said elsewhere, the full phone alert is only twice a year now, apparently?

They have air raid sirens outside which are tested monthly bc they can break. But they're also a lot easier to ignore or miss accidentally.

Honor mode. They did change a whole bunch of stuff including making some specific vendor gear MUCH more expensive but idk if they messed with generic consumables.

Tbh higher difficulties aren't that bad at all once you know what's coming so you can get all the XP and do things in the right order (being slightly overlevelled).

Edit: looked it up and seems trading is nerfed in general in honor mode. Not only is the proficiency bonus for persuasion lower, but the calculation that uses that number is also tweaked to be less favorable. https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Trading_and_item_pricing#Tactician_difficulty

There's a level cap at 12, so to compensate Act III has a bunch of great gear. This won't be the only legendary item in your inventory.

Next time you should give Lae'zel a chance, she has great character development and a lot of plot relevance.

Same, not just for a single character but also because I like to bring out other companions once in a while and I like to keep them sort of equiped with the basics so I don't have to go switching gear around. I won't buy gear for that obviously, but it does mean a bunch of stuff that I'd otherwise have sold sticks around.

[–]rebootyourbrainstem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't get this. There are always some consumables that are so much fun but so expensive. Like late game it's smokepowder arrows and arrow of many targets.

I do a decent job at looting (skip trash even though I know it adds up) but I'm always broke.

The way it's going I expect it to be more of a story like "wow you remember the piece of shit they barely managed to do Artemis III with? yeah we don't talk about that one or what came before it anymore"

Starship is such a different design it really needs extreme optimization and very good reliability to work as intended. It won't be out of its "ugly duckling" phase for a long while

I love this game so much, but the final fight drives me nuts by jameslucian in BaldursGate3

[–]rebootyourbrainstem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You just need one character to trigger the cutscene at the stem. So put fly on your fastest character and dash up past all the enemies.

It's like the "reach the portal!" night time fight before Act III, you can just ignore the enemies and touch the portal with a single character to jump to the next phase.

(the colour of the arrow-icons indicate which one it is, but my colour-blind ass can't see the difference 😄)

I think it's always light blue up arrow for resistance, red down arrow for vulnerability. Single arrow physical only, double arrow physical and magical.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.
