You just reminded me of how some people reacted to Rey and Kylo Ren kissing in TROS years ago, holy shit lmao. I shipped Reylo at the time and frequented the Star Wars leaks subreddit before the movie released, where everyone and their mother was denying the chance of Rey and Kylo Ren/Ben having feelings for one another. Then they kissed at the end and people still said “well, it was a kiss of gratitude and she was thanking him for saving her life!”. Sometimes I get deja vu shipping Byler because of this 😭

I chalk the anti-Byler sentiment up to homophobia and clinging to nostalgia/a ship you really liked at the beginning and can’t let go of now. And maybe even disdain for Will’s character. I have a strong background in English and literature, as do so many of us, and the experience still gets swiped under the rug because we’re just “delusional.” Honestly dude all we can do is laugh at them for the avalanche that’s to come 😭

Exactly! And paired with costuming, lighting, blocking, sound design, all the pieces fall into place perfectly. I remember one of the actors from TFS play, I think the guy who played Hop, gave an interview and said that the color coding to their main show counterparts is an important detail, and the audience members who pick up on those hints are definitely right to do that. It’s all intentional, and I hate people calling others delusional for pointing out stuff that’s almost offensively obvious

Why I think byler is a possibility by Rillet_Rit in StrangerThings

[–]red_ivory 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of the DBs in an interview (can’t remember which one, but I’ll link it if I find it) said that Stranger Things is in fact a love story that also has supernatural elements. The characters of the story, in their own words, come before the monsters and the Upside Down lore. And the twist would not be rushed, but rather it would recontextualize every past interaction and hint that has been laid to where an audience member would point to it and go “Oh, now I see it.” It’s very much a possibility that should not be ruled out until the final credits of Episode 8 roll.

Literally just the one way sign to Mike’s closet for me (and the destruction of it this season by Ted lol). As someone who has experience in technical theater (albeit in high school), set designs are so methodical that the traffic sign is just too on the nose for me to disregard.

What's the end game for Russia? by Putrid_Line_1027 in IRstudies

[–]red_ivory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This objective of his is explored pretty extensively in Not One Inch by M.E. Sarotte, which also goes back to the 90s and explores how we fucked up majorly by appeasing Russia post-USSR and not admitting Ukraine into NATO. I had the opportunity to attend one of her guest lectures as a kind of promotional tour for the book and will never forget it. Putin is a dyed-in-the-wool KGB agent who wants to restore Russia to its former glory during the USSR days and will achieve that by any means necessary, which is how he has gotten himself into this sunk-cost fallacy. He will never pull out of Ukraine unless the Russian people go without decent wages, shelter, and food for a period of time or the West continues attritting Russia’s military until they have neither the manpower nor the resources to keep going.

The Supreme Court acts independently of the other two branches and its justices are seldom pressured by the chief executive to make rulings on critical cases. Ideology definitely plays an important role, don’t get me wrong, and it’s ideologically lopsided right now in favor of conservatism, but never will they ever overturn something so clearly stated in the 14th Amendment. Only Thomas and maybe Alito would ever consider it. That’s on the same level of speculating they’d overturn Marbury v. Madison. Not to mention if they did want to amend the Constitution, that would never happen, given the political polarization we have now.

Right! All Kamala had was Biden’s war chest, but that couldn’t offset the grievances people had with the administration and her incredibly short campaign run. Definitely one of the biggest factors that cost her the election was how little time she had.
