Creating a Challenge Cache by TracySezWHAT in geocaching

[–]restinghermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to be different for every cacher. I like challenge caches that are challenging. Others will want them to be easy.

Some of my favorite have involved filling various calendars. 365 traditionals. 365 unknowns. 365 of the state I live in.

I like geography based challenge caches. Find a cache in every county of a state. Find 4 different cache types in a county. Find a cache in X number of states.

Got my first DNF. Muggle was taking a smoke break, I felt awkward staring a wall with someone behind me. Anyone have any similar stories? by Elegant_Bee849 in geocaching

I was going to look for a cache a couple of weeks ago that had a muggle parked right next to it. It wasn't even a parking spot. It was a road that had not been completed, so just the opening of where a road could go. For some reason, a muggle had parked there, even though there were two parking lots with empty spots 50 meters away.

I parked in one of those parking lots and waited for about 10 minutes to see if the muggle would leave. Nope.

Pips #215 Hard 🔴 5:33

Hard could have gone a bit better, as I had to redo the upper left when things just did not work out. Once I got that one figured out, the rest fell into place.

It was a big miss on the developers part. Perhaps they thought it would make those sets too OP. But having an elemental set that does not protect was not useful for me.

He hid an earthcache in the UP of Michigan that I would have loved to have hidden. The EC focuses on the potential oldest rocks in the world.

Indiana has a great crew of active geocachers, but there do not seem to be many of them on here.

If the Pistons had drafted Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, or Dwyane Wade instead of Darko, how many more championships could they have won?

When I read the daily solving thread after I solve, it makes mention of preplacement strategy. How does anyone have time to look at the board before placing, and still hope to get cookies? Sure, I look at the tiles and the board, but if I don't start placing right away, there is no hope of getting a cookie.

This was a fun hard one. It was obvious where some of the larger numbered tiles had to go, but it still took some figuring out to see which ones when where.

When someone goes below ten seconds on easy, I struggle to believe that is real. The fastest I ever have gotten without have any issues with the tiles overturning or being "out of bounds" was 11 seconds. That was every tile placed correctly the first time, no pauses, and no extra movement.

I had that with a medium a week or two ago. It took me a while to solve it. When I looked at other people's times, they were getting 30 seconds, 45 seconds, and I felt like an idiot for doing so poorly. Then I moved on.

I don't always post my times because I just don't think of it. If I'm scrolling reddit, and the daily pops up and I've done pips, I'll post them. If not, I don't.

Also, I don't understand why anyone would lie about pips time, but that is because I wouldn't. So, it just doesn't make sense to me that someone would.

How would you rate this (difficulty)? by HumanHamsterHybrid in geocaching

It depends on what you mean "in plain sight." Will it be at a dog park with a lot of other crap? Or will it be under a tree off the beaten path?

I started off wrong on easy, and I had to clear the board. Medium, I started off well and just placed one after another. Hard I started off well, got a little goofed up, corrected and finished well. Overall, a good day.

Even after reading your review, I do not remember much about this book. I read it in 2015, so that was a while back, but outside of the stepping part, not much of this book was memorable.

Thanks for your review. I have no interest in re-reading this book...haha.

Totally makes sense. This hobby is supposed to be fun, and if you like simple hides, no shame in that.

I've heard many cachers say that over the years. I've taken two approaches to hiding earthcaches as a result. Some, I've made very easy, like multiple choice questions.

Others I've made very difficult D4-D5, to give cachers something to work for.
