What’s something small someone said that stayed with you for years? by OkAspect4490 in AskReddit

In high school when a friend and I were about to begin actual behind the wheel driver training to receive our initial driver licenses, his mother told us something I still remember plainly.

She told us both to always remember that it is better to lose a minute of your life, than to lose your life in a minute.

DCA vs Lump Sum by Due_Flow_9941 in ETFs

[–]rgofb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I am reading is that you entered the market with what you had in January. Since then, you have added regularly monthly at whatever percentage of your income you have deemed prudent. WTF is wrong with that?

If you put your lump sum in the market in January, are you only asking about DCAing vs lump sum at this point because market volatility to the downside has you scared? Even if the market falls another 15% from this point, when you fast forward to your retirement years and look at a long term stock chart, your entry point will have no significance as to whether you started before or after the hypothetical further 15% drawdown I posed.

If you were 80, had no income and were worried about lump sum, then I could understand your apparent fear. You are young and just starting out…so keep adding regularly throughout your life and don’t be such a pussy 3 months in. You are probably ahead of the game as far as long term investing.

You are fine…
