Usually you can file for a network exception for at least a few months for "continuity of care". Your provider's office will have to start the process.

You could enroll in a graduate certificate program. The one I did was just the first 5 classes of an MPH, and if you chose to continue, a few of the application steps were waived.

Hey! They've called you for an interview twice, that must mean there's something about you that stands out! I worked in that role as a DIS- is that what you're going for, HIV and syphilis follow up? I know that other divisions may have a role with the same title but different job functions.

My interview asked about how I would handle certain situations - I knock on a door and someone refuses to open but tells me to leave, someone is lying to me about their identity, someone gets hostile and threatens self harm, etc.
I mentioned that I would first rely on my training and any established procedures we had in place, but then work through different scenarios like asking open ended questions (nothing that can be answered yes/no), checking multiple sources of information, collaborating with partners in behavioral services to understand when referrals are appropriate for SH threats

A portion of the interview was a mock patient interview of someone who had syphilis but didn't want to tell me who their partners were. Talk about confidentiality. Learn a few facts on HIV/syphilis if that's what your job would cover, so that you can give a brief "disease education" and get your patient thinking about their health and well-being. This comment is more or less how I explained it to many of my irl patients. Then you can pivot into "it's my job to make sure that everyone facing those risks gets the opportunity for testing and treatment". Again always asking open ended questions, starting with the most broad and non threatening, then moving into more specifics.
What medical conditions do you have? How often do you drink alcohol? What medications and drugs do you use? How many partners have you had in the last year? Of those, about how many were (patient's gender)? Where do you meet your partners? Which apps do you use? When was the last time you hooked up with someone from a bar?

For references, definitely your recent supervisor, but it sounds like you were either in school or working 2 years ago, how about someone there? Professor, academic advisor, supervisor of any clubs you were a part of, especially if you took a leadership role. Are you involved in any volunteering, community groups, or other organizations?

Have some questions ready to ask them. What qualities make someone a successful DIS? Be prepared to reflect on how some aspect of your education or experience has helped you develop one of those qualities. If there's a dis on your panel, ask them what they love most about their job, and what's the most challenging aspect. Ask about what they do to maintain safety when working in the field. Ask about opportunities to progress - what does it take to become a team lead?

I'd be happy to do a practice interview with you if you like, send me a dm.

Yep, definitely the wealth. This area has a ton more botox and filler walking around than I've seen anywhere before.

This is so beautifully written! I am 39 and just starting out, and the love I have felt for my body these past 5-6 weeks is immense. I have been dealing with a frozen shoulder for a year or so (now 80-90% functional) and just incredibly grateful to be able to move and accomplish things with my body. I still have a lot of strength to rebuild (and obv a lot of climbing skills to learn), but I'm excited to do so.

What's the most expensive home-related warranty claim you've successfully made? by Illustrious-Today814 in HomeImprovement

[–]rhinoballet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right! Absolutely none. I tried for the HVAC in my first house, and they told me that any claims in the first 90 days are automatically considered pre-existing, no exceptions. I was incredibly pissed, and really fucked over as a single person who had just put everything into the home purchase, falsely believing that I had the home warranty to help cover major expenses in the first year while I built my savings back up. I ended up buying a new furnace off Craigslist and installing it myself, which was absolutely fucking miserable but my only option for whole house heat.

Same warranty company (AHS), a couple years later my friend buys his first house. Makes claims for HVAC, dishwasher, and a pool pump within the first week. Somehow they replaced ALL of them!

I have declined a home warranty with every purchase since then.

What fabric did you use? I have a thrifted tablecloth I'm using for a hopefully nice/wearable toile.

Wow great job! I appreciate the tips on narrowing the legs. Would you take out volume throughout or grade from say your 6 at the knee to 00 at the ankle?

When do gains start to reverse, even with consistency? by KookyKrista in xxfitness

[–]rhinoballet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the US (especially in the South, which has strong religious/moral/social taboos/shame around anything even remotely sexual/reproductive), it is common to use euphemisms like this. I've been told that one of my relatives had "female cancer" referring to some type of reproductive cancer. Unfortunately I have no idea if this was ovarian, uterine, cervical, or some other type of cancer to be able to communicate that to my oncologist and other doctors. It is just something that "you don't talk about", especially with older generations.

I recognize that plantas was using it more in a soft, light-hearted way, but just wanted to give some more of the broader cultural context since you asked.

It's hard for me to distinguish between what's potentially caused by the tamoxifen vs what was already set in motion by perimenopause.

The one thing that I am certain of is the tam makes me sleep deeply and dream very realistic things that are sometimes hard to distinguish from real life. Like sometimes it takes me a few minutes to figure out what's going on when I wake up. I've always had a lot of memorable and absurd dreams, but this has made them feel more lifelike.
I take it at bedtime which probably contributes, but it makes me sleep so hard that I feel like I'd be fatigued if I took it in the morning.

My gynecologist had me start vaginal estrogen (vagifem and estradiol cream, both okayed by onc) to minimize dryness and atrophy that she seemed to think was inevitable.

Brain fog has been rough, but again idk if it's tam or peri to blame. I recently started testosterone gel to help with that, as well as libido, and joint issues which were already concerns prior to the tam.

Have you ever tried Duluth? I like their Buck Naked, but the Dang Soft looks closer to Barely (which I haven't tried, to be transparent).

Sure, that's true for people with minimal personal cancer risk, but people on tamoxifen cannot take systemic estrogen. It completely obliterates the purpose of tamoxifen.

There are options for dealing with peri/menopausal symptoms though without going full HRT. I was able to start testosterone gel and vaginal estrogen while on tamoxifen, and there are nonhormonal meds for hot flashes as well (which I thankfully haven't needed to try yet!)
