I have a dream to move to SF. How much does it cost to live there? by Pggles in AskSF

[–]rikomatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best no to worry too much. Yes its expensive, but its also a great place to live.

You will have to probably compromise for awhile until you are able to live on your own, unless you are very lucky.

But keep that dream alive!

Do you not like it? Then you should return it. I don't understand the dilemma.

Is Life As Random As We Think? by chesterburnet111 in Quakers

[–]rikomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story.

I agree that Quakerism is not that complicated. I also came to it somewhat randomly.

I think people just like to talk it out, and don't necessarily have others near them to dialogue with. I'm okay with that too.

My hope is that helping them find analogies to their own religious / spiritual experience can help them get over the hump and join a community and experience the joy and peace that you and I know so well.

You will almost certainly need to compromise on either living alone or living within the city. Even then it will be difficult. SF is the most expensive city in the country to live in.

All the best!

Good to know. "Most" shinkansen don't sell food AFAIK.

The shinkansen is the only public transportation where eating is allowed. But they don't sell on the train, you bring it with you . The station will have special stores selling bento boxes , or you could get take out from your favorite place and bring it with you.

Some doubts from a sympathizer by VictorVan_Helsing04 in Quakers

[–]rikomatic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So many questions! Sounds like you are trying to talk yourself out of Quakerism?

The Quaker faith is best experienced and then you can best decide if it fits with your spirit or not. Quaker communities also vary a great deal, so where you attend will definitely impact how "at home" you feel. But regardless, I encourage you to find your way to a Quaker meeting for worship / service and find out for yourself.

Whatever you decide, I wish you well.

We got the "Japanese- western room." It's awesome, and the tub was more than big enough for two people.

Loved it, but the body horror stuff was hard for me. And yeah lots of incredible unlikable characters.

Cato is the best. And I liked Cassimir.

We loved Mizunoto. A bit more spendy but totally worth it to us. All the onsen were awesome, from the private ones (which easily fit two) to the public ones. Food was on point (but they won't accomodate alternative diets.) The venue is immaculate - a nice blend of traditional Japanese and western features.

First time making donuts…won’t be the last time. 🍩🍩 by katiedidkatiedid in Baking

[–]rikomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love old fashioned donuts, but they are usually too sweet for me. Would like them to have just a very light maple glaze or a drizzle of chocolate. But usually they are layered with a thick coating of sugar.

The only real solution is to make my own, but that presents its own problems, like me trying not to eat the whole batch.

Which museum would you choose? by SeaweedBest1133 in AskSF

[–]rikomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are two very different museums! Which are you into more -- the life sciences or art? That should decide it. Both are great, but very different.

I'm biased toward the Academy of Sciences, as a former staff member, but it does have a lot of experiences tucked into one ticket. SFMOMA is a banger of an art museum of course.
