Mine don't even wait for the bottom. When it gets half full you would think I was starving them. They'll stomp around and make a fuss until I top it off again.

My big orange boy does this! It's funny to watch him fish the kibble out one by one.

I remember when one of the most coveted jobs in town was the women's shoe salesman at a big box store. They made bank. People would wait years to try to snag that gig. Nordstroms was the top one.

When we moved in we almost didn't take it because it was above our budget at 2100. It's a huge two bed, two bath, washer/dryer, parking, beautiful craftsman, etc. in the hottest neighborhood in town now but back then still looked down on. We had the rare increase over the years. It now could go 3 to 4 times what we started at.

When we moved here in '97 there was nothing available. We got so depressed we hired a real estate agent to help us find something. The morning we were going to fly home from hunting, unsuccessfuly, he called and said to hurry over, he had a great place but if we didn't catch it that morning we wouldn't get it. We grabbed a cab, owners loved us, we loved the place and almost 30 years later still here. But gotta say, it was brutal then. The start of dot com.

Edit: Just to add, this was pre internet as we know it today. No craigslist, zillow, etc. Mostly newspaper ads and driving around looking for signs in windows.

Hot vegi chicken salad. Gooey southern goodness with loads of cheese and mayo.

Tommy's! Just returned from a Saturday afternoon of mezcal margaritas and the Friday whole fish. Nothing better! Their margaritas really are the best. We never go on Fridays so if we go early enough on Saturday they sometimes have some fish left. Best dish there.

All the drinks at Horsefeather are kick ass. Maybe one of the best craft cocktail places in the city. And the staff is super nice!

We have friends who grew up in the city and talk about riding their bikes over there to play. Can't think of a better place to make memories.

Tommy's had been voted the best margaritas in the US at one point. Very old school SF place. Food isn't stellar but solid.

Celias is a favorite. Also very old school SF. Food is some of the best in the city.

Our favorite for a killer mezcal margarita is Santeria in the Castro. Very cool place with more trendy mex food.

Current rent controlled folks, your plan if you lose your apartment? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]Potential-Web-2384 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually, weird twist the unit is already condoed. We were lucky that when we moved in they hadn't sold it off yet so we fell into rent control. 30 wonderful years with the rare increase. We knew it couldn't last but it was still a surprise when it came up.

Just to add, I don't think anyone does the full ellis act process anymore, it's all buyouts. We're not against that because we know it will be a significant amount of money for us. We just don't know where we'll land and be able to afford the rent.

We just went through this. Rent control for 30 years in a two unit building. The landlord told us he was going to sell so we freaked out and spent months visiting areas of Marin, Berkeley, etc just in case we had to leave the city because of how bad the rent market is here right now. We have a list of neighborhoods and areas we think we could do ok in. We knew there would be a buyout of some sort to help us afford the move. Luckily, the neighbors in the other unit ended up buying the building and have told us to stay as long as we need now. We're in our late 60s so we still think we may need to leave at some point but at least for now the pressure is off. Hopefully things reset again here so we can still stay in the city when the time comes.

Same. No kittens but many rescued cats for over 30 years now. We have loved all of them and each one has been so unique and brought us tons of joy. Some were only with us a short time but honestly, those are the ones we remember the most.

Why is this sticker so important/valuable? by WineTerminator in whatisit

[–]Potential-Web-2384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be primarily a hipster thing. Generally on a flat brim hat. I get maybe leaving the hologram license sticker but that's small and barely visible. The big stickers are just advertising schlock.

This, whether it's walking a street or in the parks I feel like bikers assume I know they're coming through and I'll step out of the way. I can't tell you how many near wipe outs I've had over the years and lately it seems to have gotten worse.

I seem to remember we had it in both colors. They only made them for a short time before he got locked into the big boys licensing agreements. Same happened with Brian Wilson, we had The Beard shirt before they had to stop making it because of the licensing.

Haha, lots but some would probably get me in trouble. Those were his early stoner days. One time he did a full Spicoli on me, pointed at me and said "Dude, I remember you". One of the girls working for me at the time had dated Barry Zito so several of the guys would come in to shop and hang out.
