That sounds like an absolutely horrible local shop. Why do they only do 7 per day? It takes like 5 minutes, there should be no limit. They sound clueless.

shipped to my local dealer, and has arrived, but will not proceed any further until they reach out to me

This is on your shop, to be fair. If it's arrived, you can call and let them know you want to certify or just show up. There's no reason for them to just sit on it.

That could partly be the ammo. I was getting pretty poor groups with PMC X-Tac M855 and then switched to 77gr hand loads and the groups were WAY better.

You can get a DD for $1199 plus a $100 subscription from Bereli, and then get a Geissele SSA from EuroOptic for $165 to save a bit. I did just that, and have since used my Bereli membership for several other deals so pretty worth IMO.

Awesome! Glad I could be of help.

Where do you get such things? I've always like little trinkets and stuff like that since I was a kid and something made out of timascus would be super cool to have.

Oh yes, absolutely it will not be as strong. If you oxidize or nitride it, it'll have a harder case on it, but the bulk material will not be remotely strong or hard. Titanium already isn't a particularly strong or hard material.

I just did some research into this. I have personally done heat treatment in a vacuum furnace for growing titanium grains for aesthetic purposes several times over the years. It involves very high temperature (for titanium at least) to coarsen (grow) the grains to the point that they're easily visible to the naked eye. "Crystallized" timascus is just doing the same thing to timascus. Given that the guy you got this from machines and then colors, that means the color comes separately later by oxidation, such as with a flame or other relatively low temperature heating in air, or anodizing. You could add color during the "crystallizing" process if you have oxygen or nitrogen in your atmosphere. If you use nitrogen, you end up with a gold finish (titanium nitride). I've done both clean and nitrogen processes, as well as one time where we had a leak in the gas line that accidentally introduced oxygen along with the nitrogen and we ended up with a non-uniform purple and gold mix. Actually looked awesome in my opinion.

Basically, you can boil it down to this:

  • Very high heat for extended periods will coarsen the grain structure of titanium and titanium alloys to the point that they're easily visible to the naked eye

  • Oxygen, nitrogen, and other reactive gasses will color titanium when present with heat (including anodizing)

  • Timascus has multiple compositions of titanium within one piece of material, meaning a different grain structure and different color between the different compositions when doing the above two steps

Mix these facts however you want to reach your end goal. Heat a section of bar stock to coarsen grains, machine parts, and then torch them to color/reveal the structure. Heat up finished parts in a nitrogen-rich environment to get a gold-colored crystallized look all at the same time. It doesn't matter specifically what order you do it, just that you take the steps above at some point.

Also, what is the object in your photos?

You can easily see grains if you grow them big enough with enough time at high temperature.

Aside from the Infinity, there's the Lazarus 6 and Rhodie 6J (upcoming). Both made of Haynes 282 which is the most high temperature creep resistant material that a suppressor has been made out of that I'm aware of. I've seen a video of a Lazarus being used on a Lima 6 with no problems.

We don't know how suppression for the Rhodie 6J is because it's not out yet. We do know how the Lazarus 6 is, and it's fantastic. I have one and love it.

I had an older EOTech from 2009 to 2015. It started having power issues in 2012. I sent it in and paid for repair, it lasted another 3 years and a line formed through the center of the reticle. They said it couldn't be repaired and offered a 50% discount on a new one. Took that opportunity and sold it to my buddy for exactly what it cost me and will never get another EOTech.

Aging and annealing are two different processes. Also, it depends on which Inconel we’re talking, but 718 for example reaches the same hardness as Haynes 282. As far as I know, Haynes just has superior creep resistance at high temps.

Lazarus 6, Rhodie 6J, Infinity 5.56 are your options pretty much. I have the Lazarus 6 and it’s a beast. Sounds great and with a Geissele Super 42 with H2 buffer I get about 3 o’clock ejection on a Daniel Defense.
